PROBLEM Food waste is on of the main causes of greenhouse gases and it is leading to many disasters and climate change. In the UK4.5 million tonnes of food waste are household food waste. A lot of people such as homeless or people with very low income, can not afford purchasing healthy food, so they seek help from food banks, where they mostly get canned and non fresh food. A zero initiative concept that focuses on using recyclable materials too.
FIRST FLOOR
CONCEPT/ SOLUTION The solution is to create a space that offers many activities to help raise awareness about food waste such as; a patisserie course that will teach people how to make delicious deserts with food that is about to be wasted, with fun activities using the 5 senses. A quick journey to promote the course, which starts from watching a quick documentary about food, then staff will show the end- user how to make an easy drink or dessert with left over fruits, afterwards it’s the composting area where the consumer will learn how to compost wasted food, to be able to grow fruits and vegetables, and finally a free food sample area where they can register to join the patisserie course. Additionally, a patisserie cafe that offers job opportunities for homeless. The patisserie course will provide qualifications to help them get more job opportunities. A zero initiative concept that focuses on using recyclable materials too.

This project focuses on the zero food waste initiative, by designing the patisserie cafe to suit the location. Therefore, as the location won’t be suitable for the vulnerable/ homeless, a food bank will be available at night after closure to help those in need. This project is inspired my the final major project
