Walks in nature
While in Konsthallen Längan everything runs through life and visitors are already looking forward to a new exhibition, preparations for the exhibition Walks in nature are in full swing. And it is the right time to compile this catalogue. My name is Jana Rezekvítek Herynková and I am the curator of the exhibition Walks in nature. My way to this curator´s post was interesting, serene and inspiring. From writing of children‘s rhymes, poems and tales influenced by dreams, through commentaries and criticism of art on various blogs, artistic and amateur web sites, to being a guest of VSUJČ (Free Association of South Bohemian Artists). Thanks to my feelings and perceptions of art, my curatorial activities also began in 2006. I‘ve organised several really successful exhibitions over the past couple of years. Enough about me and let´s take a closer look at the exhibiting artists:
RNDr. Helena Grocholová / Czech Republic Born in Prague, since 1991 residing in Lysa nad Labem, the Czech Republic. Since her childhood, Helena very much loved nature and enjoyed painting. She greatly admired leading adventure books illustrators such as Zdeněk Burian and Emil Kotrba who excelled in their ability to paint action scenes of brave heroes with animals, especially horses. Helena was honored to get to these great artists in person. Helena graduated from the Nature Protection at the Charles University in Prague. At the beginning of my painting carrier, Helena first focused on classical oil-on-canvas paintings capturing mainly horses and dogs. Since 2009, she also focuses on animal photography and takes part in many exotic photo-expeditions all around the World. This way, Helena got a lot of inspiration for her fine art work. Currently, Helena focuses especially on large format oil paintings on canvas with wild animals and horses being the main themes. She further works with multimedia abstract works and interior design paintings, art photography for print, calendars and post cards. Helena also experiments with Photo-painting - oil paintings on canvas and/ or drawings combined with photography emphasizing the emotional aspect of the art work. On demand, Helena further paints also classical themes such as landscape, nature, flowers (espec. on smaller formats). Helena is a member of the Czech Artist Association, Art Association BENEART in Prague, Art Association Dědina in Nymburk, and a member of Czech Federation of Photo Art. Helena has been recognized for her life-long work at various exhibitions and social events. She has been awarded with internationally recognized prizes, including the EUROPEAN PRIZE FOR FINE ARTS, European Union of Arts, (Prague) and the MÉDAILLE D´ARGENT NATIONALE, Académie Européenne des Arts, (Belgium). Jana Janouchová / Czech Republic The artist Jana Janouchová comes from the Czech Republic. She was born 1969 in Prague. She graduated from art school in Jablonec nad Nisou, the ressort costume jewellery. Painting is her lifestyle and refill. It is not sometimes possible to express the spiritual things in speach therefore the artist inserts her feelings and visions in the spiritual pictures. Jan Hachran / Czech Republic Jan Hachran is an independent young artist who, thanks to his study of jewish - christian mysticism, european esoteric tradition, slavic cultural heritage and history, adds new dimension to contemporary art - his goal is to create something new, beautiful, mysterious, something, which has a mythological story and also something, which can spiritually elevates man as an individual and thus also mankind as a whole. You can choose any of his works - each one is original in its worldview, but it also carries in itself a message about something great, mysterious and spiritual, which overcomes us all. His art is modern, but also little bit different. It is associated with modern printing and with the using of exclusive materials, especially gold foil. Unique processing offers a series of different artworks, but almost none of them is alone, but it is part of a larger cycle of other images, which are related to it, and which its significance completes and enhances. His works have a positive spirit and give energy to their admirers, because there is a simple theory, that when you give a huge amount of work, time and energy into one thing, then that energy radiates from the work for other people who need it. His paintings already have its satisfied owners in the Czech republic and abroad, for example in Slovakia, Switzerland, Russia, Poland, Germany, Ukraine, France, Izrael, Serbia, Kazakhstan, USA etc. He has won several awards, such as the award of the International Art Fair “Artfest” and he is a member of the Association of czech artists. Jan Hachran is also the founder of a new art style called magical ornamentalism. Magic of ornament, alchemy of the image, mystical vision of human history – these phrases would summarize the overall idea of this style. Visually, this may seem a bit like pictures of art nouveau and symbolism, but the overall idea is deeper. It is not only an aesthetic aspect, but also a spiritual one. The starting point are the jungian and psychoanalytic theories about perception of symbols and their interpretation by our subconscious – the
interaction with the magical ornamentalistic work is a certain alchemical experiment, where a common synthesis of the theme of the image and the ornamental decoration of the surface influence on our subconscious. All this should result in the discovery of an imaginary philosophical stone in ourselves - our best qualities, from which we can benefit ourselves, but also other people and whole country. For this style, ornaments and symbols are just as important as the actual theme of the image itself. Also is true, that these artworks apart from the already mentioned psychological aspect, should stimulate our interest in the specific mythological stories of which they are the bearers and help us return to our roots and discover ancient secrets, mysteries and the traditions of our civilization. Eva Hubálková / Czech Republic Eva lives in Prague. She paints from 2013 in her free time. She uses different art techniques mostly oil colours painting, painting with palette knife, pastels, acrylics, crayons, pencils, encaustics, painting on ceramics. She likes displaying countryside during both the seasons of the year and parts of day and night, both town atmosphere and countrylife, water. She prefers realistic point of view in her paintings but she likes impression, too. She is keen on crossing the boundary of her personal imagination. She uses her own photos as an inspiration. Being a self taught painter she nevertheless has passed several various fine art classes in painting and drawing. She has displayed her paintings collectively in Prague and in Ústí nad Orlicí. Lenka Razáková / Czech Republic I‘m amateur painter, born in April in the sign of a Aries in 1975. Painting has been following me since my childhood, when I and my twin produced and formed everything that was possible - from illustrations of our fairy tales and horrors, to creations made of clay and wood. After primary school I graduated from a secondary school of photography, where I applied a sense of color and creation. Then I graduated from another high school – a social-legal, with the preparation for life. I have been actively painting since 2005, when I also had joint exhibitions with a group of people from „Free Association of South Bohemian Artists“. Most often I create oil paint on canvas and boards, also with pastel, charcoal and I try to use a structural acrylic techniques. My theme are the details in nature, architecture and human qualities. Paint fills me with thein capabilities, by developing and unapologetic clear and obscure ideas on canvas. Each picture has its own mysterious story, tucked into a lot of hours of work and creation. Colors lightly transfer man from real word into a world of fantasy, word of distant thoughts and emotions. The painting gives me absolute freedom and independence and it fills me. Petra Timurová / Czech Republic Petra is a self taught artist, who lives and creates her paintings in Karlovy Vary in Czech Republic. Her paintings are usually oil on canvas, styled as 3D structural abstraction, made with technique called ALLA PRIMA. She invented her own secret technique, which makes dentation plasticity visible as geometrical shapes depending on the light direction and hardness of light. This style is original, and Petra Timurová is the only artist using this style of painting. She regularly participates in a number of exhibitions, sympoiums and festivals. She was offered an independent exhibition at New York‘s Artifact Gallery in Manhattan and is invited to artistic salons, art exhibitions and art festivals on regular basis. Jaroslav Mokrý / Czech Republic *1956 I was born in Lysa nad Labem and from very early age I was surrounded by beautiful works of art. In the town square there stands a Baroque chateau decorated by sculptures by Matyas B. Braun. The chateau park contain a unique set of statues, one for each month, also created by Braun and his students. From the age of six I started visiting the Tatra mountains every summer with my parents. The beautiful vistas there were a clear inspiration on my life as an artist. The restoration of the Scouts organization in 1968 gave me the opportunity to illustrate my first book - the chronicle of the Scout troop. In 1971 I had to make a important life decision and pick a school. The choice was very limited back then. Mechanical engineering schools held very little interest for me, yet I had to enroll in one anyway, as I was given no information on any art schools. Despite this I finished my first oil paiting in 1973. In 1975 I was drafted for the military. I was serving in Southern Bohemia in a town called Pisek. Here lived an artist, poet and painter František Roman Dragoun, a student of Max Švabinský and Vratislav Nechleba. I befriended him and became his student. He opened my eyes to the world of classical art and taught me proper painting techniques. Between 1978 and 1983 I attended an evening art school in Prague. At this time I was working for CKD, one of the largest engineering companies in the former Czechoslovakia, where I remained until the Fall of Communism. This meant loosing a steady job but also it freed me from a very mundane existence. I started reading the Bible for the first time in my life. This book has served as
a inspiration for a great many artists throughout the history. Its influence on my life was great indeed and I decided to get baptized. In 1993 I asked The National Gallery in Prague to allow me to create reproductions of paintings by Petr Brandl and my request was granted. This was the highlight of my life as a student of the arts. It felt like Petr Brandl himself was teaching me and I learned much from this experience. After this I also took a Figure drawing course and continued to visit art exhibitions and galleries as much as possible. In my work I focus on portraits, still life and landscape art. I have always strived to faithfully express the beauty of nature. The art styles of Realism and Impressionism were always the closest to my heart. I am a member of The Association of Fine Artists of Czech Republic. I work for Ceske Drahy as electrical engineer which gives me ample opportunity for travelling. I am also a member of Fisaic organization (Féderation Internationale des Sociétés Artistiques et Intellectuelles des Cheminots). For many years, devoted to his craft, to which also belong the drawings of products, etc. It was challenging and time consuming, and it came a period when her work her chemical research wasn‘t fulfilling. Signed up for the course of painting and it it so fascinated and pleased that he stayed with it. Currently attends a long oil paintings in the Monti Kubrik. Painting it so much fun and always has a painting image, looks forward to its completion. She likes the color, expressive images. He paints landscapes, portraits, still life and everything, what she likes, and custom-made according to your own specifications. Petr Kopecký / Czech Republic I was born in Pardubice, but my life is connected with Prague where I live. For more than 20 years I have been in the field of graphic design, which is my core business. The long-term work in the field of graphic design and interest in art techniques brought me to painting, first in the digital environment, later to the classic technique of painting. I like to try new techniques, techniques and means of expression here. I do not feel bound by any conventions or techniques, which gives me complete freedom and the pleasure of the creation itself.I highly address expressive expressions of painting and dynamic composition. I also like to combine abstract painting with 3D composition.I prefer free abstract art (acrylic, oil, mixed media), but I also use a classic oil painting for its unmistakable atmosphere and depth. Some methods and results of my work I‘m reflecting to digital form where I create various art compositions supplemented with digital themes. Milena Záležáková / Czech Republic Born in the northern part of Czech Republic. Milena currently lives and works in Dolní Poustevna – a beautiful small town close to Bohemian Switzerland. She has always been passionate about painting and when she started her painting career, it was a dream came true. After all, her motto is: “it´s never too late.” Through her artwork she escapes the stressful daily routine and it also gives her the opportunity to share her joy with others. Milena is a proud member of the Artist Association of Czech, Bohemia and Slovakia. For her paints, she fell for acrylic and oil techniques. Hana Mňuková / Czech Republic Painting brings joy in my life. I grew up in mountain regions around town Trutnov in North Bohemia, where I came from 1977 moved to Rychnov nad Kněžnou where I live so far. I still feel like a girl from the mountains. My interest in painting was already awakened in primary school and I started painting for my teacher. A few years later I applied to the UMPRUM (Academy of Arts Architecture & Design in Prague) and passed the admission test for talents. However, a shortage of student housing restricted my entry to education. My future profession has instead become a certified nurse and later also midwife ... with never-ending desire to paint! Photography has also aroused the delight of me in order to capture the beauty of the moment. I promised myself to reproduce those beautiful perceived moments later in paintings. My lifelong dream is to use different painting techniques, immerse myself in colors and feel the painting‘s scent, and it comes to fulfillment now at meetings with like-minded artists in the Association of Fine Artist of The Czech Republic, at courses and when paint with dry pastel, acrylic, oil, ART Zentangles and ART free. Jaroslava Drechslerová / Czech Republic Graphic arts, especially landscape painting attracts me from my childhood through nature‘s infinite play of colors. My old grandfather, forest keeper, showed to me how I could concieve the nature with wide opened eyes and discern the forest‘s richness of colors nuances. I studied graphic arts at The School of Arts in Mělník (1975-1981) and my first group exhibition followed then under the direction of academic painter Vladimir Vesely, who for me will always be an unchallenged authority. The communist establishment under 80-ties has pointed out my family as a political unreliable and stopped my further education. It took time for me until 2005 to continue with the National Gallery‘s of Prague summer course in landscape painting under the direction of academic painter Milan Perič. I love landscape painting in oil, usually in nature, and I am fond of classical painting on canvas or wood. Nina Urbanová / Czech Republic I was born in Malé Svatoňovice and I have spend my whole life there. Malé Svatoňovice is the place where I live and create my paintings. I‘m just an amateur painter and the only base of my work is the talent inherited form my father. Mostly I paint landscapes, sometimes with some mystery and fantasy glimpses. I paint realistic flowers, still-lifes, animals and sometimes portraits too. Painting makes me happy, so I hope my pictures bring joy to other people too. My favourites are oil paints, which let me play with colour shades and light. I‘ve also made some book ilustrations. Drawing and painting have been my hobbies since childhood, but I started to take them more seriously in 2011. My first solo exhibition was in 2015 and the others have followed. I‘m glad to habe the opportunity to present my work at art festivals and art saloons. My most prized achievements are 1st place in the painting cathegory and a special gallery award both at ArtFest in České budějovice. I‘m a member of two informal art clubs: Galerie výtvarníků and Volné sdružení umělců Čech a Moravy. Ivana Ševčíková / Czech Republic She lives and creates in Lipová-lázně near Jeseník. She reflects everything she loves in her artwork – life, people, nature, animals, colours, fantasy. You cannot find sadness or hopelessness in her pictures. She projects happiness, love and calmness– things people need the most in their lives. She decided to realize her dreams and hopes and she is therefore fully concentrated on painting and drawing nowadays. She participates in various activities, she meets her friends - painters, passes artistic courses, presents her artwork in exhibitions. It is her escape into the world where she lives the story of her life. She is a member Association of Artists. Zdeněk Kopecký / Czech Republic I grew up surrounded by art thanks to my grandparents. I´m fascinated by painting since my childhood when I had been watching my grandparents as they had been painting. I have learned everything by myself when it comes to art. I spent a lot of time by making aviation models and electric engineering in my free time (influenced by my technical education). I really like pencil drawings and oil paintings. I have started to take photos of landscapes and nature when the digital photography expanded. I have barely touched painting or drawing at this time. I have returned to painting in autumn 2017. I have attended several courses and tried to improve my skills in various techniques of painting. But I like the most the beauty of landscapes and nature. I´m trying to capture their special “beauty“ in my paintings. “I paint what I feel and live. It’s my world! I try to pass a message and positive energy through my paintings. My style is a mixture of symbolism, surrealism and dreamy style„. My Painting -The main theme is personal growth and the cycle LIVE – REST – Dream. My art is a world of plants and people. The combination of these two elements is giving my paintings spiritual dimension, which makes people think about themselves, of our relationships with others and most importantly, whit the nature. A peaceful life is a mandatory for me. I come from the Czech Republic and I live in the South of France since 1996, where I studied French Civilization and History of Art at the university in Aix-en-Provence. I express the topics of technique by luminescence. I give the paintings a specific positive energy, created by appropriately selected colors and shades. The main element is freedom and purity. Most backgrounds in my paintings are empty and run to infinity. I place great emphasis on areas for relaxation – dreaming – imagination. Folklore, traditional costumes, patterns, lace, traditional crafts of the Czech Republic I draw on for my work appear in my works as a sy mbol of patriotism. The history of art has influenced me so much that I organize artistic internships in Provence, which allow my interns to enter the magic world of art. A.S. cooperates with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Paris, the Czech consulate in Marseille and with the Society of Czech-French friendship. She represents her Motherland by her art and she is interested in old traditional crafts and modernization of the Czech folklore. Ján Jonsy Gáll / Slovakia *1987 Ján (Jonsy) was born in Košice. He studied Philosophy and History at the Faculty of Education, where he also attained a doctorate. After graduating from the University, he began to work as a teacher at elementary school. During the work in education he has achieved several important awards with his pupils. In 2015 he won a prize for his contribution to children‘s artistic creation in the city of Košice. In 2017, his project was awarded the first place within the primary schools at the education market. In 2018 he won a Golden Amos award as the best teacher of Slovakia. Besides teaching, he is also interested in fine arts. In his art work, he is involved in graphic design, drawing, woodworking and especially painting. A distinctive feature of his work is the bold use of colour. He is a typical expressionist who expresses his feelings and passions with colours. The themes of his works are different, but advantage of this artist is mainly illustration of the figurative motifs depicting the individual shades of a human being. A special theme is still life, city streets or sacral themes. In 2013 he became the winner of the art contest Košická paleta (Košice palette ) and in 2016 his painting won a prize in the Slovak contest Art Spectrum. He regularly participates in international plenaries and symposiums. Marek Zimka / Slovakia It was the accurate rendering of nature and animals that helped this young, humble and very talented artist from Giraltovce to subdue many visitors that came to his exhibitions. The love for nature started to appear in his life during the time when he moved from his hometown Košice to a small village Vyšný Slavkov, which is located in the northeastern parts of Slovakia. His closest companion in his long strolls in the forest, while observing beautiful fauna and flora of that fascinating country in Spiš region, became paper and a pencil. This was the time when his first drawings emerged and when his immense love for nature was born. The message of his work is to „Show people how colorful and incredible our Nature is...The message is to show how beautiful is something that we deliberately destroy. I wish my paintings can tell their observers how much they will lose with their ill behavior and intolerance.“... The main intention of this young artist is to instill the love for nature mainly in children. Their hearts are innocent and they can make decisions led by their hearts. He believes, that the affection for nature will help the children to become good and tolerant human beings. Marek Zimka had his first exhibition on an international competition for amateur artists in 2001 in Kežmarok, where he was not left unnoticed. The course of time has brought this artist many more exhibitions, amongst which were collective as well as solo exhibitions. He participated in the competition exhibition in Svidník, where he won first place. He also participated in several international open air competitions and his work was also appreciated in Czech Republic. *1984 Michal has been working primarily with dry pastels since 2013. One of his most common subjects is the human being and its essence, a portrait of a person as a bearer of emotions and tension in the picture. He doesn’t avoid modifications of the human anatomy to achieve such impressions. His inspiration is often found in history and mythology. The main component of his works is the noticeable contrast of light and shadow. In 2018, he published a book about pastel technics.
