In Michigan, the arrival of Bell’s Oberon Beer marks the beginning of Spring. This day is celebrated in multiple locations throughout the state.

Maple Syrup Festival (Vermontville)

This annual weekend event includes carnival rides, a talent show, arts and crafts, a flea market, parades, a petting zoo, and much more!

MAY

Food Truck Friday (Battle Creek)

A monthly event hosted at the Battle Creek Festival Market site in downtown Battle Creek. Enjoy a variety of delicious foods and live music from May through December.

Spring into the Arts Artwalk (Battle Creek)

Enjoy live music and entertainment while checking out the terrific local art on display throughout Linear Park in Battle Creek. This riverfront event also features evening kayaking and water bonfires.

Opening Day at Binder Park Zoo (Battle Creek) Binder Park Zoo opens for the season and will remain open through October featuring 140 species and more than 500 animals.

JUNE

Marshall Blues Fest (Marshall)

This family-oriented music and entertainment festival is hosted in downtown Marshall and features blues bands, brews, and food.

National Cereal Festival (Battle Creek)

For more than 50 years, Battle Creek has celebrated its heritage as the birthplace of the cereal industry by drawing people together for a family-friendly festival with a parade, live music, children’s activities, and free cereal for all at the World’s Longest Breakfast Table.

Cheetah Chase 5k (Battle Creek)

This unique 5K multi-surface course allows runners to take in views of a variety of zoo animals and African Savannah with giraffes, zebras and more.

Fourth of July Celebration (Marshall)

A morning parade, flag raising, live music and a traditional chicken dinner!

Cruise at the Fountain (Marshall)

An annual event where thousands of vintage cars are showcased. Those attending can enjoy camping, fair food, door prizes, swap meet, and free entertainment!

Red, White & Blue Cruise-in & Fireworks Show (Albion)

A free cruise-in through downtown featuring your own classic or unique car. Enjoy live music, prizes, and a fireworks display over the Kalamazoo River.

Field of Flight Air Show & Balloon Festival (Battle Creek)

Enjoy daily hot-air balloon launches, night time balloon-illumes, after dark pyro air show, and fireworks. Watch top civilian air show performances, military jet demonstrations, live entertainment, and visit the carnival.

Leilapalooza Music Festival (Battle Creek)

A free cruise-in through downtown featuring your own classic or unique car. Enjoy live music, prizes, and a fireworks display over the Kalamazoo River.

Calhoun County Fair (Marshall)

One of Michigan’s oldest fairs! You’ll find various agricultural attractions, great rides and delicious fairground foods.

Cruise the Gut (Battle Creek)

An old fashioned cruise-in, vintage cars are displayed along Michigan Avenue.

SEPTEMBER

Historic Marshall Home Tour (Marshall)

Tour historic private homes and businesses; also visit seven area museums that showcase diverse subject materials.

OCTOBER

Bonteboktoberfest (Battle Creek)

Sample some of Michigan’s finest microbrews at the zoo while enjoying live music, food fresh off the grill, and a variety of animal presentations.

Crane Fest (Bellevue)

Over 9,000 cranes fly to the Baker Sanctuary during the annual migration. Enjoy a wildlife art show, nature walks, food trucks, and children’s activities.

NOVEMBER

Winter Market (Marshall)

Enjoy seasonal vegetables, meats, baked goods, handmade items, and much more at this winter market. The market is open from November through May and is held at the B.E Henry Building.

Christmas Parade (Battle Creek)

The annual holiday parade route runs through the heart of downtown Battle Creek and features floats, classic cars, marching bands, entertainers, and local community organizations and businesses.

International Festival of Lights (Battle Creek)

A spectacular display of lights throughout and surrounding downtown. Take in the amazing ice sculptures and gingerbread competitions; one of the most popular displays, The Twelve Days of Christmas, is located on the lawn of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.

Candle Light Christmas Walk (Marshall)

Take a walk by the light of candles to explore exclusive historic homes and a museum all festively adorned for the holiday period.

Christmas Parade (Marshall)

This magical parade features numerous floats, marching bands, horses, and Santa Claus to ring in the holiday season.

Fort Custer National Cemetery: Wreaths Across America (Augusta)

Annual event of laying wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes; during the wreathlaying, each veteran’s name is said aloud to ensure that their service and sacrifice shall never be forgotten.

American Museum of Magic

Allow yourself to be immersed in the greatest collection of magical objects on show anywhere in the USA and find out what has been called as “the Smithsonian of American magic.”

Capitol Hill School Museum

Having been originally a two-room schoolhouse, this building was a part of the city for over a century. Now, it is included on the National Register of Historic Places, one room acting as an accurate representation of a 19th century classroom, and the other room being used as a children’s museum.

G.A.R. Hall Museum

Served as a meeting place for Civil War Veterans is now an archival center and museum.

Governor’s Mansion Museum

Built in 1839 in hopes Marshall would be elected as the state capital. Open to the public.

Honolulu House Museum

Built in 1860 by the first U.S. consul to the Hawaiian Islands. The museum features restored paintings and period furnishings.

Marshall Postal Museum

The United States’ second largest collection of postal memorabilia, mail buggies and vehicles.

Marshall Town Hall

Built in 1857 & operated as a livery stable and station. Has been re-built and restored into Marshall’s Town Hall.

National House Inn

This inn, constructed in 1835, is the oldest one still operating in Michigan and is thought to have served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1976, the hotel went through a restoration before it was reopened as a bed and breakfast.

Binder Park Zoo

Situated on 433 acres this award winning zoo has spectacular views and features animals from all over the world. The main exhibit is Wild Africa where you can enjoy the unique experience of feeding the giraffes.

Cereal History Exhibit

The exhibit has pieces from Post and Kellogg, including old advertisements, collector plates, memorabilia and, much more.

Flash Flood at Full Blast

Gilmore Car Museum

Hailed as one of the top five car museums in the Nation; vintage and collector vehicles and motorcycles from all eras on display in over a dozen vintage buildings located on 90 acres. Throughout the summer months, the Gilmore “Car Barns” is host to several phenomenal car shows!

Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center

A beautiful Italian Renaissance Revival style building that has been home to a sanitarium, military hospital, and currently as offices for the Department of Defense.

Historic Adventist Village

Discover the history of the Adventist pioneers who settled in Battle Creek in 1855. Restored & replicated 19th century buildings.

Kaleidoscope Garden at Leila Arboretum

Discover a world of plants and the roles they play in 1.5-acres outdoor learning experience.

Franke Center for the Arts

Offers a variety of performing art performances throughout the year and home to the Marshall Civic Players.

Cornwell’s Turkeyville USA

In addition to the restaurant, ice cream parlor, kitschy shop, and campgrounds; Cornwell’s serves up home-cooked turkey and a full calendar of events, including flea markets, antique arts and crafts & a professional dinner theatre.

Art Center of Battle Creek

Celebrating 75 plus years the Art Center boasts three galleries, four studios, a gift shop, plus offers numerous art classes open to the public each semester.

Barn Theatre

Augusta is home to Michigan’s oldest professional Equity summer stock theatre company located in a renovated dairy barn. Following the performance, visitors can enjoy the after-show in the Rehearsal Shed for a great time!

Battle Creek Symphony

Michigan’s oldest orchestra performed its first concert in 1899 and continues each season to present innovative and memorable programs.

Binda Performing Arts Center

This theater space is located on Kellogg Community College campus and is host to theatrical performances and community events.

Brass Band of Battle Creek

An internationally acclaimed brass band that performs concerts at home and abroad.

Tibbits Opera House

Tibbits Opera House, in Coldwater, is the second oldest theatre in Michigan having been built in 1882 and hosts a variety of entertainment year round.

W. K. Kellogg Manor House & Gardens

Overlooking beautiful Gull Lake, the W. K. Kellogg Manor House was built in 1925 and is the former home of the cereal magnate and his family. This historic estate is available to tour and events yearround.

W.K. Kellogg Auditorium

Hosts the Brass Band of Battle Creek and a variety of other musical performances.

ORCHARDS/U-PICK FARMS

Bosserd Family Farm

Located in Marshall, Bosserd Family Farm is open from July to October. This farm features flowers, pumpkins, raspberries, petting zoo, and fresh meats. From September and October, one can try to solve the corn maze, and pick-your-own pumpkins during the month of October.

Gull Meadow Farms

Featuring over 20-acres of apple trees. Wagon rides to the u-pick apple orchard to pick apples directly from the tree, apple barn, bakery, award winning apple cider, u-pick pumpkin patches, acorn maze, and a children’s play area.

Harvey’s U-pick Farm

Offers blueberries, chestnuts, raspberries, and strawberries. U-pick is available starting in June to October. Open daily during strawberry season (the month of June).

Automatic milking technology and pasture-based management supports research, education and outreach at Michigan State University’s Kellogg Biological Station. Tours are available.

Roak Brewing Co. (Marshall)

Formerly operated in Royal Oak, this independent craft brewery acquired Dark Horse Brewing Company and moved their taphouse to Marshall in early 2020. Housed at the same location, featuring two kitchens, and two great craft beer collections; enjoy the distinct eclectic style of Dark Horse’s taproom and a hip industrial experience in the Roak Beer Garten.

A Marshall taphouse that brews up award winning beer with a lot of personality and a little bit of rebellion. Visitors will enjoy a great atmosphere, hearty food, and a fun outdoor beer garden, which hosts events year-round.

Grand River Brewery (Marshall)

Farm-to-Table; Grain-to-Glass. Designed to be a modern version of the old Public Houses; Grand River Brewery is a terrific gathering spot. Small batch brews, wines, spirits and a scratch kitchen; all using locally sourced ingredients.

Albion Malleable Brewing Company (Albion)

Bell’s Brewery & Eccentric Cafe (Kalamazoo)

New Holland Brewing (Battle Creek)

Mike’s Place (Marshall)

Explore over 180-acres of wetlands, hardwood forest, and lakeshore areas. This park includes two miles of trails, 88 acres of prairie, and 300-yearold trees.

Wilder Creek Conservation Club

A 60-acre wildlife habitat with wooden walkways, trails and viewing platforms.

Bernard W. Baker Sanctuary

The first crane sanctuary, the 980 acres boasts lakes, ponds, streams, and 3.5 miles of trails.

Gourdneck State Game Area

2,293 acres of land and several ponds support a variety of wildlife and warm-water fishing.

Leila Arboretum

Bailey Park

Historic Bridge Park

Featuring historic truss bridges that were restored and moved to the park. This park has picnic areas, paved trails, boat and canoe launch and is the first of its kind in the United States.

Kimball Pines County Park

Over 100 acres of plantation pines. This park offers hiking trails, picnic facilities, cross-country skiing, disc golf and is home to the oldest stands of urban pines in Michigan.

Linear Park Pathway

The 26 miles of paved pathways provide safe trails for walking, jogging, skating, and biking through wooded areas, open fields, parks and some commercial areas.

McCamly Park

McCamly Park honors our veterans and features hard surface walking paths, green spaces and numerous memorials to the veterans of several wars.

Mill Race Park

This mile-long channel park has beautiful landscaping, an ADA accessible play structure, picnic tables, and a track.

Monument Park

Established in 1917 with a statue to honor C.W. Post. The stone history tower contains historic stones and memorabilia as far back as the 1930s.

There are many opportunities for fishing and water sports along the 123-mile river with 27 riverfront developments, parks, and access sites.

Kalamazoo River Valley Trail

When completed, the trail will span 35 miles of non-motorized paved surface from Battle Creek through Kalamazoo County.

Yankee Springs Recreation Area

Aural recreation area with nine lakes, hiking, biking, swimming, boating, and a 200-site campground.

LAKE MICHIGAN BEACHES

Southwest Michigan residents enjoy an easy drive to Lake Michigan for breathtaking views in any season. About 75 minutes away, South Haven offers North & South Beach & Van Buren State Park. Oval Beach in Saugatuck has been rated by Conde Nast Traveler Guide as one of the 25 best shorelines in the world. Silver Beach located below the bluff in downtown St. Joseph was voted “Top Six Beaches in the World” by Delta Sky Magazine.

FISHING

There are numerous lakes with public access in Calhoun County and the surrounding areas, offering many options for all types of fishing. Take a short drive to Lake Michigan where there are an abundance of charter fishing opportunities.

Galesburg Speedway

Between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek lies Galesburg Speedway, which is a quarter-mile long semi-banked asphalt oval that also features a figure-eight race track.

Education

In addition to several public school systems, there are a variety of private schools, charter schools and specialty schools in the greater Battle Creek area.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Marshall Public Schools consists of two high schools, one middle school, and four elementary schools. Also, the Shamrock Center School Age Child Care offers programs for children ages 3 to 13 to accommodate the needs of families for child care and an alternative education high school provides personalized instruction with small class sizes to provide students individual attention. Marshall High School offers dual enrollment in college courses as well as the optional program through Calhoun Area Career Center.

Battle Creek Public School District is located in Calhoun County, Michigan. The district includes three high schools, three middle schools, seven elementary schools, including a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) school, and a new Alternative High School housed at the W.K. Kellogg Middle School. There are four sites in the district for Early Childhood Education, the Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center, and an adult education program. The district also has one of the nation’s few remaining Outdoor Education Centers located on beautiful Clear Lake in Dowling, Michigan.

Lakeview School District serves over 4,000 students yearly in its K-12 and Alternative Education programs. Lakeview offers one high school, one middle school & four elementary schools. The mission of the district is “Lakeview Public Schools partners with our community to empower students to achieve personal and academic success. Lakeview today…Leaders tomorrow!”

Harper Creek Community School District serves approximately 3,400 students in grades K-12, with seven schools in the district. Harper Creek Community School District is committed to providing a comprehensive education to all students, with a focus on academic excellence, character development, and community involvement. The district offers a variety of programs and services to support student success, including special education, gifted and talented education, and extracurricular activities.

Pennfield Schools includes one high school, one middle school and four elementary schools. The school district is located north of Battle Creek in Pennfield Township. Pennfield schools’ mission is to ensure all students the opportunity to learn and to provide them with the necessary skills to be contributing members of society.

Kellogg Community College (KCC)

KCC consists of five campuses and offers 60 pre-professional college/university transfer programs; 37 associate degree programs, and 25 certificate programs aimed toward job preparation and related training for apprenticeships.

KCC Regional Manufacturing Technology Center (RMTC)

The Regional Manufacturing Technology Center is Kellogg Community College’s campus for Industrial Trades and Workforce Solutions. Located in the Fort Custer Industrial Park in Battle Creek this innovative and community-driven training facility offers manufacturing, skilled trades, and applied technology training.

Siena Heights University

Siena Heights University is a Roman Catholic postsecondary institution with a 55 acre, 17 building main campus in Adrian. Since 1992, Siena Heights at Kellogg Community College has offered adult students bachelor’s degree completion opportunities. Programs include continued education programs, distance education programs, & bachelor’s degree completion programs.

Western Michigan University - Battle Creek

Western Michigan University’s campus located in Battle Creek offers academic programs & courses to attain a bachelor’s, master’s & doctoral degrees, as well as graduate certificates.

Western Michigan University College of Aviation

WMU College of Aviation is the only aviation program at a public university in Michigan. With over 1,150 resident undergraduate students, the College of Aviation is one of the largest aviation programs in the nation & with its fleet of 28 Cirrus SR20s, is home to the largest flight school in the Midwest.

Oaklawn Hospital is an independently owned non-profit hospital offering equipment and technology that is usually found only at larger health systems. Oaklawn has a medical staff of more than 300 providers representing over 55 specialties, 77 acute care beds, and a 17-bed inpatient psychiatric unit and serves Calhoun County and parts of Branch and Eaton counties.

Oaklawn was recognized as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics. Oaklawn is also one of four hospitals in Michigan and 102 U.S. hospitals to earn five stars, the highest possible, in a new ranking by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Bronson Battle Creek (BBC) is a multi-campus healthcare provider serving over 200,000 people in south central Michigan. Bronson Battle Creek (BBC) has earned national CoC recognition for the quality of cancer care it provides to the community, including: a four year accreditation for radiation oncology services from ASTRO, the largest radiation oncology society in the world, The CoC granted BBC another threeyear accreditation with six out of six commendations, the highest commendation achievable for the Cancer Care Center, and NAPBC awarded BBC a three-year accreditation for breast cancer services. ASCENSION BORGESS HEALTH PARK

Ascension Borgess Health Park in Battle Creek offers primary care, specialty care, and many outpatient services to provide more treatment options to the residents of Calhoun County in one convenient location. The Ascension Borgess Women’s Health facility provides obstetrical and gynecological care. Ascension Borgess Health Park in Battle Creek also includes facilities for family and internal medicine, medical imaging, diagnostic labs, physical and occupational therapy, an anticoagulation and device clinic, a sleep disorders center, Bariatric Center, heart care, neurologic care, weight loss management, rehabilitation services, Neurosurgery, orthopedics, and a pharmacy.

The Battle Creek VA Medical Center has been providing service to more than 43,000 Veterans residing in the 22-county area of Western Michigan. The medical center features 276 total operating beds, including 55 inpatient mental health beds, 11 inpatient medical beds, 109 Community Living Center beds, and 101 Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) beds.
