Lucy and Michael Vaughan established their lighting business in 1983, having noticed the demand for beautifully made decorative lighting from the international interior design market. ‘We started this business with one ambition; to create lighting that is both timeless in its design and beautifully crafted using natural materials and traditional manufacturing processes - our focus has never changed. We believe every Vaughan product, traditional or contemporary, should be recognisable from its quality of craftsmanship, attention to detail and its artistic ‘handwriting’. Design Philosophy An appreciation of original design and traditional manufacturing methods remains the foundation of the Vaughan design ethos. Vaughan collections are renowned for their timeless design and quality, unaffected by fleeting trends. The lighting, furniture and textile collections cover a wide range of styles and eras from the 17th century to modernism, each piece having its own signature pared back aesthetic.

Materials and Finishes Vaughan’s designs are made using some of the finest and most durable traditional materials. Every material adds its own qualities to our designs and our craftspeople employ traditional manufacturing methods which give a rare depth and beauty to the finishes. Our brass designs are made using solid cast brass which is also used as the base material for many of our nickel and bronze designs before being nickel plated or given a wax finish. Highly skilled glass workers hand blow our unmoulded crystal and glass designs. Our alabaster is quarried in Italy and Spain and our ceramics are manufactured using a variety of techniques and glazes including earthenware, porcelain and stoneware. Using authentic materials and manufacturing processes ensures we are consistently able to design and produce the highest quality products as we always have done.

Craftsmanship An appreciation of traditional and authentic manufacturing is fundamental to each and every Vaughan product. Highly skilled craftspeople, some of whom have supplied Vaughan for over 30 years, work closely with the in-house design team. These craftspeople skilfully translate our designs, often involving complex engineering, into beautiful finished products.
Clients Vaughan is a trusted and respected name in the design community and remains the influential choice for world leading designers, architects and hotel specifiers, many of whom have worked with us since the business started in 1983. We understand the importance of giving exemplary customer service and maintaining long relationships with our clients. Our experienced sales teams work closely with our clients to offer product advice and manage orders at all stages.
Projects Our lighting, furniture and textiles can be found in some of the world’s most beautiful residential interiors, leading hotels and restaurants, including Hotel George V and Le Bristol in Paris, Gleneagles in Scotland, The Dorchester in London and Crosby Street Hotel in New York.

Design Resource The extensive range of lighting and lampshades is complimented by Vaughan’s own designs of furniture, mirrors and textiles. Each collection offers a wide breadth of design styles to work beautifully alongside the lighting and suit different interiors. In order to fulfil orders within selected time frames Vaughan works closely with their suppliers to maintain good stock levels. Vaughan’s flagship showrooms in London and New York are open to view products and discuss design requirements. Vaughan is represented globally by Agents and Consignees across showrooms and key design centres. The Vaughan website is considered by interior designers to be market leading and serves as a comprehensive catalogue and resource featuring inspirational lifestyle images. We are members of the Lighting Industry Association and operate within their code of practice, products can be wired for different territories including CE for Europe and UL for the US.
