Alchemy Alchemy is a new body of work exploring the Australian gold rush from a humanist perspective through themes of gold, transformation, alchemy and mysticism.

Motifs also reference the role of immigrant Chinese miners in Australia and the associated issues of integration and displacement in both the historical context and today. This work is an outcome of my 2016 residency at Hill End. The alchemical operation consisted essentially in separating the prima materia, the so-called chaos, into the active principle, the soul, and the passive principle, the body, which were then reunited in personified form in the coniunctio or ‘chymical marriage’‌ the ritual cohabitation of Sol and Luna.
