It is my great pleasure to welcome you to this year’s Steyning & District Food and Drink Festival, a celebration of the fantastic produce, brilliant producers, culinary expertise and wonderful pubs, restaurants and bars our town and surrounding villages have to offer.
Our objectives are to offer a wonderful Festival for the community, bring visitors to the area and to showcase the fantastic local produce and hospitality our district offers. In addition, we are supporting and raising money for St Barnabas, our charity for this year.
This year’s Festival takes on a new format, building on a strong, 14-year foundation and focussing on quality and variety with the centrepiece being a Street Food Piazza, along with other fantastic events offering a rich mix of exciting foods, drink and flavours, and all set in the beautiful surrounds of Steying and district.
We have curated an exceptional lineup of chefs, brewers, winemakers, and local vendors who will showcase their skill and finest creations, offering you an opportunity to explore a world of tastes and textures.
We have designed this Festival to be more than just a feast for the senses. Our local businesses have provided a range of great offers to tempt you throughout the Festival. Whether you are here to sample an innovative dish, learn a new skill, or simply enjoy the atmosphere, there is something for everyone.
I reserve a special mention and acknowledge the hard work of our Committee, our talented and dedicated volunteers, participants and sponsors. SUSSEX SIX – Within our guide please look out for the Sussex Six logo, as shown, which denotes that this particular business has signed up to the Sussex Six ethos. An HDC guided project, this project aims to help you buy local food and drink.
Sussex Six shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés serve and sell local Sussex produce, and have pledged to take on at least six more locally-sourced products on their shelves and menus in the coming year. From 6th September until 15th September, a Charity Menu Dish will be on offer for breakfast/lunch/dinner/pizza/cheesecake/food orders - all to be found at various eateries in our area. Every year we support a Festival Charity, and this year it is the St Barnabas House Hospice. Probably a name well known to all of you, we are so pleased to be supporting them via the Festival and hope you will enjoy as many of the dishes as possible, to help raise a hefty donation to this much loved local charity. This special dish - promoted on individual menus - will be on offer for the Festival period, and each time they are chosen £1 will go to our charity. Of course, should you feel you wish to give an additional amount, it will be more than welcome.

A new event for Steyning and the Festival, the Street Food Piazza aims to be the largest event of the week. We’ll be taking over the High Street car park in the centre of Steyning and are throwing the biggest BBQ the town has ever seen. We’ve assembled a mixture of vendors, from local heroes, street food specialists and some of Sussex’s finest restaurants to cook on open fire around the space. There’ll be varied cuisines and plenty to get stuck into, with each vendor running a short menu to showcase their talents and cook some delicious dishes. We’ve selected vendors who champion the use of local produce and use the very best of what the UK produces. There’ll be craft beer from local breweries, Gin from local distillers, Wiston Estate will be running a bar with their excellent wines and more. With a celebratory atmosphere kept buzzing along with DJ’s in the music section, seating for plenty and hopefully fine weather it promises to be a fantastic afternoon.
