Hotel Viking is among the most popular wedding venues in Newport, RI for good reason. Our staff is known for providing impeccable service; the hotel is renowned for its historic elegance; our culinary team never ceases to amaze and delight; and of course, location, location, location.

HOTEL VIKING

Hotel Viking sits atop Historic Hill, the geographic center of the original city of Newport and home to some of the region’s ancestral landmarks including the Old Stone Mill, Trinity Church, Colony House, White Horse Tavern and Washington Square. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of Newport’s Bellevue Avenue mansions, scenic waterfront, bustling harbor, a myriad of restaurants and lively bars. Located about a mile from the hotel, Easton’s Beach (aka First Beach) and nearby Cliff Walk are among the best places in Newport to watch the sun set.

Rooms & Suites Since opening in 1926, Hotel Viking has been a focal point of Newport’s social scene. In fact, some of the original shareholders were owners of Bellevue Avenue mansions who invested in the construction of the elegant hotel to accommodate their visiting guests, sparing no expense to ensure the hotel met the high standards of Newport’s elite society.

A proud member of the prestigious Historic Hotels of America, Hotel Viking has hosted visiting dignitaries, celebrities and movie stars. According to local lore, early 20th-century author and humorist Will Rogers turned down an invitation to stay at a friend’s Bellevue Avenue mansion, choosing instead to stay at Hotel Viking.

Following a 2016 renovation designed to incorporate updated amenities while retaining its historic ambiance, Hotel Viking remains one of Newport’s premier wedding venues. The updated Bellevue Ballroom, the smaller of its two ballrooms, boasts a fresh décor. Simple yet elegant, the ballroom is the ultimate canvas for creating custom wedding settings.

With 208 classically styled guest rooms and suites, Hotel Viking is the ideal setting for destination weddings. Guests, families and members of the wedding party can mix and mingle before, during and after your big day, extending the celebration with a rehearsal dinner in One Bellevue or a day-after brunch, weather permitting, at our rooftop venue, Top of Newport.

Hotel Viking offers discounted rates for reserved room blocks to accommodate your friends and family. Our classically elegant Mansion Suites and Viking, Manor and Estate guest rooms feature early 20th-century period furniture, fine linens and rich fabrics. Our Newport guest rooms boast a modern design infused with authentic Colonial elements. All accommodations feature Wi-Fi and state-of-theart entertainment systems. Discounted rates do not include room tax (currently 13 percent). Hotel Viking is pleased to confirm room blocks at time of booking.

Cocktails & Cuisine GOOD TASTE

Hotel Viking’s dining venues range from casual to sublime. Our signature eatery, One Bellevue, showcases the culinary genius of Chef Barry Correia. Previously featured on NBC’s Today Show and the PBS Early Morning Show, Chef Correia brings seasonal salads, New England soup favorites, locally inspired butcher’s block steak selections and locally sourced seafood to One Bellevue. Be sure to save room for handcrafted desserts created by Hotel Viking’s pastry chef.

Chef Correia’s lounge menus, served in the bar and the adjacent lobby-lounge Living Room, focus on unique presentation and home-style creations. Warm and welcoming, dishes are presented on small plates in whimsical vessels made for sharing. Live entertainment cranks up the volume in the bar and lounge year-round.

Top of Newport, Hotel Viking’s seasonal rooftop restaurant and bar, is open from Memorial Day through the end of September. Recognized as one of the Top 10 Rooftop Bars in the Country, Top of Newport offers unparalleled views of Newport encompassing the harbor and historic landmarks.

Hotel Viking’s Garden Patio, adjacent to One Bellevue, is an alfresco sidewalk café.

In cool weather, a blazing outdoor fireplace beckons guests to bask in its warm glow. The Garden Patio accommodates up to 72 guests seated at up to 18 tables.

Venues ABOUT OUR VENUES

The largest of our ballrooms, Viking Ballroom accommodates up to 275 guests in a setting enhanced by crystal chandeliers and gilded accents. An adjacent foyer is ideal for intimate cocktail receptions. Consider the garden Courtyard for larger gatherings in season.

Our premier outdoor space, the Courtyard offers a garden setting for cocktail receptions.

Cherry trees, hydrangea, roses, evergreens and perennial flowers lend an air of fantasy to the landscaped venue. It’s also a preferred setting for rehearsal dinners, welcome receptions and post-wedding brunches.

The Bellevue Room, our newly renovated lobbylevel ballroom, is original to the hotel. The circa 1926 space boasts high ceilings, large windows and Gilded Age architecture. This ballroom can accommodate up to 175.

Dating to 1859, Kay Chapel is a historic Newport landmark. Today, it’s one of Newport’s most unique private settings for intimate weddings.

The Groom’s Room is a comfortable salon located in the Kay Chapel. This wedding-day man cave is outfitted with comfortable seating, a large TV, and games. Groomsmen can preorder snacks and stock the bar with the groom’s favorite beverages. It’s a private hangout where the groom and his groomsmen can kick back while they await the bride’s arrival.

HOTEL VIKING

Thames, a multi-purpose lobby-level space, can accommodate up to 70 guests for a seated meal and up to 175 for a cocktail reception.

Thames is available for cocktail-hour entertaining in conjunction with the Bellevue Ballroom and is also a popular location for rehearsal dinners, welcome receptions and post-wedding brunches.

Services & Amenities IT’S YOUR DAY

Hotel Viking’s SpaFjör offers a comprehensive menu of massages and spa treatments.

Our professional therapists are trained in a variety of massage styles including Swedish, Thai, Balinese, Ayurvedic, deep tissue and hot stone. Our signature massage therapies include Ocean Breeze, a coconut body scrub, followed by an aromatic massage using our tropical scented lotion. For the ultimate spa experience, consider our Royal Honey Massage. The 80-minute treatment begins with a honey-ginger oil back massage. Honey is then applied to the upper back in preparation for a myofascial-release massage to ease stress-related discomfort and enhance mobility. Next, your therapist will apply a honeycomb thermal heat patch to deepen relaxation. The treatment continues of the front of your body using warmed honey candle wax. With ample notice, we’d be happy to arrange a bridal party spa experience.

LOOK GOOD, FEEL GOOD

Hotel Viking’s heated indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, located on the lower level adjacent to the spa and fitness center, offer a year-round oasis of warmth and hospitality.

Recline poolside in a comfortable chaise lounge or gather with friends in the pool’s cozy seating clusters. Tropical beverages and light bites are yours for the asking: our restaurant delivers.

Hotel Viking’s fitness center, located adjacent to the spa, is equipped with treadmills, Stairmasters, free weights, elliptical trainers and a Cybex weight-training system. Fitness center access, including showers and towels, is included in the hotel’s daily amenity fee.
