I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It’s the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can’t touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them, They say they still can’t see. Obituary On Monday June 21st, 2021, Amber Blakes passed away surrounded by her loved ones and in the arm of her eldest daughter to be with our Father in heaven. Amber Claire Blakes was born on January 31, 1976 to the union of James Leonard Blakes, and Marlene Favorite Blakes. Amber was baptized at Little Zion Baptist on Wilson Road in Marrero, LA, by Pastor Louis Ernest. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 121: “I lift my eyes to the hill, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord; the maker of Heaven and Earth.” Her favorite song was “Nobody Greater.” Amber was a brilliant woman, a go-getter, a friend to all, a loving niece, a cousin who loved her family, but most of all, she was a loving mother to Najai Semaj Davis, Imri James Blakes-Williams, London Blakes-Jones, and a doting grandmother to Marley Rashad Davis. Amber is the sister of Nanette, Dericka, Phillip, Keith, Eris, and Kenneth(deceased).The niece of Burma Bentley, Alfredia F. Kindrick(deceased), Judith James, Lisa Favorite, Una Favorite Brown, Preston Favorite, David Holmes and Melikile Favorite Sr. The Goddaughter of Gilda Collins and Reverend Anthony Williams. She leaves behind her devoted Aunt Una Favorite Brown and Uncle Preston Favorite that she called out for consistently until the day she transitioned. Devoted friends, Lori, Tiffany, Anieze, Janetha, Zena, Renee, Ciera, Larry and Kyra. On behalf of the family we'd like to personally thank Cousin Mukie for always being there to assist with daily living, Dr. Borgeman, Nurses Kim, Rhea, Batchy, and the remaining touro staff who treated Amber as nothing less than family. She was welcomed into the gates of Heaven by her Mother, Father, Grandmother Ethel Mae Davis, Auntie Fredia, & Great Auntie Nest. She will definitely be missed by her immediate family, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and associates. May her legacy remain intact and memory forever live on.
