Sex Offender Notification Policy NICC maintains procedures that facilitate the prompt notification of appropriate personnel of the presence of an employee or student who is a convicted sex offender. Enrollment decisions and/or attendance stipulations for registered sex offenders are based on the specific details of each case. Iowa Code Section 692A.3A states that registered sex offenders are required to notify the College of their status upon application to the College, enrollment in a non-credit College course or program, or at such time they are placed on a Sex Offender Registry during enrollment at the College. Failure to self-disclose at the time of acceptance or during enrollment could lead to dismissal from the College. In some instances, an individual may be required to obtain written permission from the College to enroll in courses or to continue in a particular program. Students are to notify the campus counselor.

CNA Testing Skills This registration is for the skills portion of the CNA State Competency Exam only. You must sign up for the written test separately, and successfully pass both the written and skills tests to be placed on the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry. Forty-five minutes is allowed for the skills portion of the test. You will be assigned a “resident” and will be evaluated while you are performing nurse aide skills for them. You are required to achieve a 70% or better on the skills portion in order to pass the state exam. If you don’t receive the minimum score of 70%, you may take the skills exam up to three times total (on different days) in order to achieve a passing score. If you fail the third exam, you must retake the 75-Hour Nurse Aide course prior to attempting testing again.

Certified Nurse Aide (75-Hour) Is your heart’s desire to work with residents in a long-term care facility or does your future hold plans for attending a nursing program? Either way, our 75Hour Nurse Aide State of Iowa approved course will pave your way to a career in helping others. Basic nursing and personal care skills, residents’ needs, their rights and communication, plus knowledge about geriatric and special populations’ mental health, physical and social concerns will all be covered in this fast-paced combination of classroom, hands-on lab experience and off-site clinicals. ***Please be aware that Iowa now mandates that every nurse aide student must pass a criminal and an adult/child abuse background check before being allowed to enter a clinical site. Hazardous Materials Management

Lead Safe Renovator 8-Hour Lead Safe Renovator is a required certification through the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Lead Poisoning for anyone who disturbs more than 1 square foot of painted surface on a home or building built before 1978. The law went into effect April 22, 2010 and applies to all electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters and other tradesmen. This course is designed for those who currently do not hold the Lead Safe Renovator Certification. During this 8-hour training participants will study to pass a written test and be evaluated on competency during hands-on sessions. Contents of this course are approved by the Iowa Department of Public Health and certificates will be awarded to successful participants.

Teaching Methods-Online The design of the course will encourage participants to apply course content to authentic teaching/ learning situations in their own community college environment. This course includes two major sections: the first on teaching methods and the second on perspectives and methods of evaluation.

Different theoretical explanations of learning will be briefly explored to gain insight on the various teaching methods and to encourage understanding regarding the “leap from theory to practice.”

Coaching

Coaching Authorization To coach K-12 school-sponsored athletics in Iowa, you must be certified. Northeast Iowa Community College offers courses that meet the State of Iowa requirements for coaching authorization certification. There are four modules that must be taken in order to apply for your coaching authorization: Human Growth and Development for Coaching, Coaching Theory and Techniques, Body Structure and Function, and Basic Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries. The Coaching Authorization class will cover all four of these areas. Attendance is required at all classes. To apply for your Coaching Authorization 1. Successfully complete the four coaching authorization classes. 2. Adult Education & Family LIteracy Northeast Iowa Community College offers Adult Education and Family Literacy classes throughout northeast Iowa.

Recreational Vehicles

Moped Safety This course will get you ready to ride your moped!

The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) requires a person at least 14 years of age who does not have a drivers license, to complete an approved moped operator course. This course will cover safety, rules of the road and laws governing mopeds.

Bring a sack lunch to class. Vending machines may be available. Students taking the course must be at least 13 years old.

Motorcycle-Basic Rider Course Beginners are welcome! Learn to properly ride a motorcycle in a safe, controlled environment.

Students learn riding techniques and additional skills, such as emergency braking, cornering with control and spotting critical problems in traffic. The Basic Rider Course satisfies the State of Iowa training requirement for riders under the age of 18. Upon successful completion of the course, students are issued a DOT certificate to receive their motorcycle license. This certificate is valid for one year. Scooters welcome.

General Education Development (GED) The General Education Development (GED) program allows those who have not finished high school to earn a General Education Development Diploma from the State of Iowa.

The diploma shows that individuals have achieved a level of educational development comparable to that of a high school graduate.

English Language English Language instruction is offered through the Adult Literacy Program to help people with limited English to learn the English language.

Adult Basic Education Adult Basic Education instruction is offered through the Adult Literacy Program to help people with limited or “rusty” academic skills.

Tier 1 classes are vocationally-based and are designed for students with learning challenges, who want to build on their current skills. Tier 2 classes are academically oriented and are designed for students who want to “brush up” on skills that could help them in their daily lives, who need help in passing college entrance/ work-related exams or taking the GED. Fees associated with Adult Literacy education include annual program fee $25 (non-refundable), GED or English Language textbook fees (optional), GED testing fee $75. Step 1: Go to www.nicc.edu/continuinged Click Sign In. New Students: Click on Create New Student Profile. On the next page, you will be asked to create a Login and a Password; note this information for future reference. Complete the remainder of the profile form and click Submit.

Returning Students: Enter your username and password, and click Sign In. If you do not remember your password, click on Forgot Your Password to have a temporary password emailed to you. Once you log in, you may edit your profile to create a new password.

Step 2: Select Courses Click Classes in the Options Menu located on the left of the screen and locate your course by category. Or click Search in the Options Menu and enter search criteria to locate your course. Once you find your course, you may click on the course title to view the full course description. To select the course, click Add to Cart. You may continue to review courses and select by clicking Add to Cart.

Step 3: Checkout In the Shopping Cart, click Checkout to begin the payment process. When you reach the Shopping Cart page, you have the option of choosing additional classes, removing classes from your cart or canceling your order.

Before processing your checkout, please review and agree to the Refund Policy provided by clicking the check box for each class. Click Checkout to proceed. At Payment Process, please review your order and enter the requested credit card information and select Process Payment to complete your order.

That is it! You will receive an email confirmation of your registration and transaction. You may also log in at any time to view your current (and past) registrations and transactions.

Tuition and Fees Classes require pre-registration and payment. We accept MasterCard®, Visa® and Discover® for all classes. Class registrations are due one-week prior to the start of class. Registrations are not valid until payment is received.

A confirmation email is issued for online registrations. No return confirmation or receipt is issued for other forms of registration.

Enrollment and Cancellation Policy Classes and workshops are subject to cancellation if the minimum enrollment is not attained. In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified. Some classes may have limited enrollment due to space or other limitations.

Refund Policy If a class is cancelled by NICC, a full refund will be issued. No refund will be given if the participant cancels 5 business days or less prior to class start date. Note that some fees are not refundable.
