Sex Offender Notification Policy NICC maintains procedures that facilitate the prompt notification of appropriate personnel of the presence of an employee or student who is a convicted sex offender. Enrollment decisions and/or attendance stipulations for registered sex offenders are based on the specific details of each case. Iowa Code Section 692A.3A states that registered sex offenders are required to notify the College of their status upon application to the College, enrollment in a non-credit College course or program, or at such time they are placed on a Sex Offender Registry during enrollment at the College. Failure to self-disclose at the time of acceptance or during enrollment could lead to dismissal from the College. In some instances, an individual may be required to obtain written permission from the College to enroll in courses or to continue in a particular program. Students are to notify the campus counselor.

If you have completed the Dietary Manager’s course work OR have successfully completed the Institutional Foodservice Supervisory program and have worked in a facility located in Iowa for 2 years, you are eligible to apply to take the Dietary Manager’s exam. This course is a review to get you ready to take the Dietary Manager’s exam. Please ask your instructor for exam locations nearest you.

A four-hour Lead Safe Renovator Refresher course for those who need recertification with the Bureau of Lead Poisoning. The class includes instruction, hands-on and the recertification test.

Lead Safe Renovator 8-Hour Lead Safe Renovator is a required certification, approved through the Iowa Dept. of Public Health Bureau of Lead Poisoning, for anyone who disturbs more than one square foot of painted surface on a home or building built before 1978. The law went into effect April 22, 2010. This includes electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters and other tradesmen.

This class is for those people who currently do not have the certification. Participants in this eight-hour training will study to pass a written test and be evaluated on competency during a two-hour hands on session. Certificates will be awarded to successful participants. Fee includes student manual, handson training and picture certificate (with passing test score). There will be demonstrations, show and tell time, a garage sale of fabrics and notions and a Quilter’s Garden bonus gift certificate for all participants. Instructors have a combined 65 years of quilting experience and will be on hand to answer questions. The Cresco Center will be set up with large individual workstations with good lighting as well as cutting and ironing stations.

Dyslexia Tutoring Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) offers a tutoring program for people with dyslexia. We use an Orton-Gillingham method of teaching which is a systematic, explicit and intensive method of instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension strategies that is designed for one-on-one tutoring of children, teens and adults. Each one-hour session is $40. If you or someone you know has dyslexia, register today!

Moped Safety This course is mandated by the state of Iowa for students under the age of 16, who want to get their moped license. Learn the rules of the road and how to drive safely. Upon successful completion of class, the student will be mailed a certificate that they can take to get their moped license. Students taking a daytime class should plan to bring a lunch. All students should be 13 years old. The DOT certificate issued for successful completion is valid for one year.

Adult Education & Family LIteracy Northeast Iowa Community College offers Adult Education and Family Literacy classes throughout northeast Iowa.

General Education Development (GED) The General Education Development (GED) program allows those who have not finished high school to earn a General Education Development Diploma from the State of Iowa.

The diploma shows that individuals have achieved a level of educational development comparable to that of a high school graduate.

English Language English Language instruction is offered through the Adult Literacy Program to help people with limited English to learn the English language.

Adult Basic Education Adult Basic Education instruction is offered through the Adult Literacy Program to help people with limited or “rusty” academic skills.

Tier 1 classes are vocationally-based and are designed for students with learning challenges, who want to build on their current skills. Tier 2 classes are academically oriented and are designed for students who want to “brush up” on skills that could help them in their daily lives, who need help in passing college entrance/ work-related exams or taking the GED. Fees associated with Adult Literacy education include annual program fee $25 (non-refundable), GED or English Language textbook fees (optional), GED testing fee $75. Step 1: Go to www.nicc.edu/continuinged Click Sign In. New Students: Click on Create New Student Profile. On the next page, you will be asked to create a Login and a Password; note this information for future reference. Complete the remainder of the profile form and click Submit.

Returning Students: Enter your username and password, and click Sign In. If you do not remember your password, click on Forgot Your Password to have a temporary password emailed to you. Once you log in, you may edit your profile to create a new password.

Step 2: Select Courses Click Classes in the Options Menu located on the left of the screen and locate your course by category. Or click Search in the Options Menu and enter search criteria to locate your course. Once you find your course, you may click on the course title to view the full course description. To select the course, click Add to Cart. You may continue to review courses and select by clicking Add to Cart.

Step 3: Checkout In the Shopping Cart, click Checkout to begin the payment process. When you reach the Shopping Cart page, you have the option of choosing additional classes, removing classes from your cart or canceling your order.

Before processing your checkout, please review and agree to the Refund Policy provided by clicking the check box for each class. Click Checkout to proceed. At Payment Process, please review your order and enter the requested credit card information and select Process Payment to complete your order.

That is it! You will receive an email confirmation of your registration and transaction. You may also log in at any time to view your current (and past) registrations and transactions.

Tuition and Fees Classes require pre-registration and payment. We accept MasterCard®, Visa® and Discover® for all classes. Class registrations are due one-week prior to the start of class. Registrations are not valid until payment is received.

A confirmation email is issued for online registrations. No return confirmation or receipt is issued for other forms of registration.

Enrollment and Cancellation Policy Classes and workshops are subject to cancellation if the minimum enrollment is not attained. In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified. Some classes may have limited enrollment due to space or other limitations.

Refund Policy If a class is cancelled by NICC, a full refund will be issued. No refund will be given if the participant cancels 5 business days or less prior to class start date. Note that some fees are not refundable.

Continuing Education classes held at school district locations are cancelled if the school district closes due to inclement weather.
