05 October 2023 Mill Ride Golf Club

The annual AGA Quill and Club Tournament returned to Mill Ride Golf Club in Ascot. The event is organised by the AGA committee to mark the end of the season for all current and past organisers of AGA events at Army, Corps, andRegional levels.
We were delighted to host two potential sponsors for the day: Richard Austin of Methods and Ash Baldwin of Fortinet, and we look forward to seeing them at future events.
The weather was favourable, with no rain forecast for once. While the course played well, it still posed a stern test for all players, with no one managing to truly dominate. Secretary Steve Davis seemed a likely candidate for the "most golf" title after his front nine, but he redeemed himself on the back nine and avoided that distinction.
The field had a good range of handicaps, evenly split between single-figure and mid/ high teens, creating a competitive atmosphere.

Ian Lester was the only player to break par on the front nine, scoring 20 points, but his back nine let him down, and he had to settle for runner-up again, matching last year’s position. Matt Priston was the only other player to break par, doing so on the back nine with an impressive 20 points.
As the saying goes, "slow and steady wins the race," and this was proven by Craig Morton, who carded 17 points on both halves to take the trophy from Ian Lester on countback. Better luck nextyear, Ian!
The event concluded with a lovely meal, allowing players to reflect on the "what might have beens." As always, the event was played in great spirit, and everyone enjoyed the day.
Our thanks go to Mill Ride for their excellent hospitality, and we look forward to returning on Thu 3 Oct 24 to do it all again. To all the players who travelled from far and wide, thank you for your support throughout this
