‘TO LISTEN - TO HELP’ Harrow Counselling Centre provides affordable, high-quality, professional counselling.

This leaflet tells you about our services and how to contact us.

How counselling can help A skilled counsellor will listen and help you understand how past experiences, worries about the future or lack of confidence may be affecting your life.

Together you can reflect on how you respond to life events and explore the way you relate to yourself and others. Your counsellor will not tell you what to do or give advice, but will help you make your own choices.

Can counselling be of help to you?

The counselling we offer is about enabling a person to feel more in control of their lives and to make changes which had previously seemed not possible.

People come to HCC in order to address

emotional, personal or relationship problems.

The services we provide Sessions are 50 minutes.

• Individual, open-ended, once weekly psychodynamic counselling • Individual, time-limited psychodynamic counselling (12 weekly sessions with an agreed and specific focus) • Individual CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) counselling • Couple counselling • Telephone/Skype counselling • Mindfulness Our Counsellors Our Counsellors are fully trained professionals.

We do sometimes have part-qualified Counsellors who are in training.

Opening Times Counselling is available Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 10.00pm at the Centre.

Confidentiality HCC provides a confidential setting. You are free

to talk safely, without fear or rejection, criticism or blame. No information will be disclosed to anyone outside HCC without the client’s written permission, except under certain rare legal circumstances (e.g. Child Protection).

Good practice All our Counsellors work to professional Codes of Ethics and Practice. Copies of these codes and our complaint procedures are available on request. We have an Access to Records policy and comply with the Data Protection Act. We are committed to an intercultural approach and to equal opportunity.

HCC is a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy.

Sometimes we are unable to help People who are dependent on drugs or alcohol sometimes approach us. Since we are not a specialist addiction agency, we ask clients to seek specialist help for addiction before contacting HCC.

Making an appointment

You can contact HCC yourself - you do not

need to be referred. Just call the Office on 020 8423 8454 or alternatively email us from our website to make an appointment for an initial consultation. The office is open Monday to Friday but, should no one be available to answer your call, messages may be left on our confidential answering machine or you can call the mobile number provided.

Assessment appointments are made within 5 working days. You will be sent a letter confirming your appointment and a personal questionnaire which you are invited to complete before you come. Your completed questionnaire will help us prepare for your initial consultation and will be treated in strictest confidence.

The initial consultation takes about 90 minutes.

An experienced assessment therapist will explore with you your needs, your expectations, issues relevant to your application, and whether the services we offer can help you. The therapist whom you see for the initial consultation may not be your counsellor for subsequent sessions.

Following the initial consultation we will consider the best way forward and contact you with our recommendation. Occasionally we will need further information or require you to have a second, more specialised assessment. If we think that our

services cannot provide the help you need, we will suggest alternatives wherever possible.

We aim to start your counselling as soon as possible. You can help to speed things up by being as flexible about times of availability as possible.

The cost of services at Harrow Counselling Centre

HCC is a non-profit organisation committed to providing affordable services. We therefore operate a sliding scale of fees. We try to set a fee that takes into account your financial circumstances, whilst contributing towards the realistic cost of our services. The fees are discussed and agreed with you. All fees are reviewed annually.

For the initial consultation A fee of £20 is charged if you are unemployed and on benefits, £30 if part-time or on a pension, or a fee of £50 is charged if you have an income.

A fee of £50.00 is charged for couple counselling.

For ongoing counselling Single Sessions The minimum fee is £15 per session and the maximum is £80.

Couple Sessions The minimum fee is £40.00 per session and the maximum is £100.00 Payments for missed sessions You will be expected to pay for missed or cancelled sessions, except for those cancelled by the counsellor. This enables us to maintain your regular appointment time for the duration of your counselling.
