As a leading wildlife charity, they oppose the exploitation of wild animals in captivity and campaign to keep them where they belong - in the wild. They promote Compassionate Conservation to enhance the survival of threatened species in the wild and protect natural habitats while respecting the needs and safeguarding the welfare of individual animals. Born Free seek to have a positive impact on animals in the wild and protect their ecosystems in perpetuity, for their own intrinsic value and for the critical roles they play within the natural world.
GORILLA ORGANIZATION
The Gorilla Organization was founded in the early 1990s to support the antipoaching patrols created by the pioneering primatologist Dr. Dian Fossey. Building on Dr. Fossey’s legacy, we looked into the reasons why poaching was so prevalent in Africa’s national parks. The findings of our research came to form the foundations of our innovative community-led approach to conservation. For more than two decades, the Gorilla Organization has worked to save gorillas from extinction. Our projects have carried on through civil war, famine, natural disasters and our work is by no means done.
LIONAID
LionAid are the UK charity working globally to save lions and end the decline of wild lion populations. We carry out world leading research into lion conservation and engage directly with politicians and decision makers in the UK, Europe, Africa and Internationally. We are at the forefront of highlighting the true plight of lion populations, canned/captive hunting and the trophy hunting trade. The only sustainable solutions involve all stake-holders, which is why we do more than just talk about it, we are working directly with tribes-people and their leaders in Africa to put in place sustainable and effective programs to help save lions. When you support LionAid, you support lions.
MANTIS
The Community Conservation Fund Africa (CCFA) is a registered NPC whose founding sponsors are ACCORHOTELS / Mantis. These two hospitality companies recognise the urgent need for the tourism industry to play a greater role in conservation and community upliftment which will benefit Africa’s wild animals and wilderness at a time when both are under threat. Without Africa’s wildlife, wilderness and community involvement there will be no tourism industry in Africa, so this initiative has been created at the 11th hour both as an act of humanity and of pragmatism.
SAVE WILD TIGERS
SWT works towards preventing the extinction of the wild tiger across its most viable landscapes, creating an environment whereby the wild tiger can thrive in its natural habitat. We recognise that to achieve this we need to work towards reducing demand for (captive and non-captive) tiger skins, bones and parts & derivatives, thereby stopping the illegal wildlife trade and poaching of wild tigers. We also recognise that we must protect valuable tiger habitat and interlinked ecosystems. To do this we must ensure that humans living in tiger landscapes share our vision and are fully supported.
