Twenty years is a big milestone in our world. This event doesn’t happen every year without the support of our customer base that has helped us reach this milestone. Cheers to another twenty years!

Eternal optimists we have been called before but all indications say this cattle inventory is lower than we thought it would be. The cattle market is on fire and the producer is finally going to get paid for their premium product they are raising. There is no hiding that the Charolais advantage is alive and well! I just watched some silver heifer calves highlight a pre sort sale, 10 to 15 cents above their same weight range. No better time than the present to add some value to your bottom line.

The Charolais bull should be on your radar! Calving ease is not a question in these white bulls. We are selling multiples into big herds and not hearing a bad word at calving time. The market has spoken and the Charolais advantage is the premium.

The bull pen around here is as exciting as we have had in a few years. From front to back we are extremely proud of these fellas. Our pen of bulls has jumped through more hurdles than I have seen in one year starting with the brutal spring of 2022 that we thought would never end. These bulls have survived some harsh conditions. Our weaning weights were down on this calf crop as a direct result of the drought of 2021.

We practice what we preach; feet and legs are a must around here. These bulls are sound and feet are not trimmed. We stand behind our bulls for structure and to be sound breeding bulls. Herd bulls around here follow the same criteria, we don’t use a herd bull for a fad or numbers. We use them because they are good bulls.

Honky Tonk is a long term breeding tool for many reasons including his desirable structure and phenotype. The lower third and flank in the Honky Tonk calves is exceptional. Ransom son with a ton of shape and volume, he might be short on ears but not short on quality. The winter these calves were born in was as tough of conditions that we have seen around the ranch. His dam is strong udder type, easy keeping female that has some of the strongest pedigrees in her dna. This Ransom son has a huge foot underneath him and easy to handle.

A full brother to the Guinness herdbull this fella is smooth as silk and loaded with balance. He travels effortlessly, length of body, and built in calving ease. We use his full brother on heifers consistently and he has yet to disappoint us. He is nice combination of calving ease and yet maintains some of the strongest performance numbers in the breed. Did I mention feet? Guinness has some of the soundest hoof structure in the breed.

We feed for athleticism longevity&

The entire pen of bulls has been developed on a high roughage, total mixed ration from fall weaning to spring delivery. The ration has been formulated to maximize nutrition. We like the bulls to gain 3-3.5 lbs/day, carrying moderate flesh, not excessive body condition.  We feel it is difficult to properly appraise these bulls when they carry excessive condition.

Longevity and athleticism is of highest importance  - structurally sound feet and legs are a must and we will not put any trait ahead of it. We are confident in the dam’s structure and the herd bull they are sired by or these bulls aren’t in the sale.

We understand that we are a performance driven breed and we strive to utilize genetics that add pounds to your calf crop without sacrificing calving ease.  It is important the genetics we select also leave you with desirable replacement females.

Conrad Wilgenbsuch and Family Dutch Auction Benefit

In December, just a few days before Christmas, our brother Conrad was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, an aggressive and rare form of cancer that occurs in the thin layer of tissue that lines the lungs of the abdomen. For the past two months, Conrad has undergone numerous medical tests, scans, and appointments with specialists. It was discovered that his cancer is confined to one lung and there has been no metastasis. Conrad was referred to a specialist in Toronto where he will undergo extensive surgery to remove his left lung. In February, Conrad flew to Toronto to begin a series of tests and radiation treatment prior to surgery. His surgery is scheduled for March 30th and will require him to stay in the hospital for two weeks, followed by a 8-10 month recovery.

In the months to come, their family will be faced with significant costs related to medical procedures, travel and accommodation expenses in Toronto, a lengthy recovery and the challenges of receiving health care out of province. In addition, Conrad has been unable to work for the past few months and will continue to be off work during his recovery.

As you can imagine, this unexpected journey has been an emotional rollercoaster for them. We want to help their family by relieving some of the financial burden so that they can focus on Conrad’s recovery and health.

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds.  THe settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released.  The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

BIDDING: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder.  Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives.  Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

DISPUTES: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved.  If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the lat bid.  The auctioneer’s decision is final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue.   assume no liability, legal or otherwise for any accidents that occur.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.  Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time.  All animals left with the seller must be insured.

LIABILITIES: All persons attending the sale do so at their own risk.  The seller’s assume no liability, legal or otherwise for any accidents that occur.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry papers issued by the appropriate breed association.  A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

BREEDER GUARANTEE: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date or purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age.  The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder.  No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

EXCEPTION GUARANTEE: In the case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

INSURANCE: Wilgenbusch Charolais offers insurance and it will be available sale day.

It is again a pleasure to be working with the hard-working folks at Wilgenbusch Charolais. The Wilgenbusch family continues to raise reputable Charolais cattle and is one of the top Charolais seedstock producers in the country; the quality and consistency in the 2023 offering is proof of that.

The Wilgenbusch crew harvests great quality forage annually, allowing the bulls to be slowly developed on a balanced, high forage-based diet to maximize genetic potential and to promote lean muscle growth. The sale bulls are developed on the total mixed ration that is built to strengthen the longevity of the sale bulls on offer. The diet utilizes a chelated mineral package to enhance the bull’s immunity and complement the bull’s growth patterns. The cowherd also utilizes a chelated mineral package throughout the year which is essential to the overall health and longevity of the sale bulls on offer. It is important that rumen health stays a priority throughout every stage of the bull’s development.

The bulls diet along with the cowherd is continuously monitored year-round to ensure the animals’ overall health flourishes in the environmental and seasonal conditions.
