Welcome to the 17th Annual North of the 49th Bull Sale. Thank you to our past friends and customers; we certainly wouldn’t have come this far without you. If you are viewing our catalogue for the first time, thank you for your consideration of this year’s bull pen.

This past year at the ranch was an interesting one. Despite a cool, dry spring, the feed pile was plentiful for a change and the grass will have plenty of optimism going into this spring after the rain in the fall.

Buckskin calves and char cross calves is the name of the game when it comes to demanding a premium in a volatile marketplace. When you watch calves selling in the fall, there is no doubt that charolais influenced calves bring top dollar, consistently. Our bull pen is built to capture that marketplace. We provide a product that has calving ease that will increase your pay weight in the fall. The bulls are built off a strict culling program. Feet and legs is a must at our place and we will not put any trait in front of it. We are confident in the dam’s structure and the herd bull they are sired by or they are not in the sale. Our feed program is consistent with what has worked for our customers. We feed a balanced total mixed ration from weaning to delivery date. The bulls are managed for longevity and athleticism; we have a target average daily gain of 3 to 3.5 lbs per day.

We take the most pride in the depth of quality we bring to our sale each year. This year’s bull pen is as solid from front to back as we have seen.

The Epic sire group leads off our sale offering for very good reason; they are calving ease bulls with performance and structure. The first lots in the catalogue are the calving ease bulls with some true heifer bulls on offer. The following sire groups offer some more performance, yet maintain functionality and soundness.

We strive for customer satisfaction, and service what we sell. We take a lot of pride in the bulls we raise and stand behind our bulls being a guaranteed breeder. Our breeding warranty is simple; just give us a call if things don’t work out and we will make sure you have a bull to breed your cows.

We invite you to the ranch to tour the bulls and cow herd anytime. Join us the afternoon before the sale on Sunday, April 5th, to view the bulls and enjoy some refreshments. Plan to arrive early on sale day. The coffee will be hot and lunch will be served prior to the sale. If you are unable to attend, but would like to participate, viewing and bidding will be available through DLMS. As always, our sight unseen program can find the right bull to suit your needs, satisfaction guaranteed. We encourage you to call ahead a day or two prior to the sale to allow us to answer any questions about the bulls.

Epic

was a bull we found out of the Cedarlea program in Hodgeville SK. We knew the Epic bull was going to bring some traits into our breeding program that would cross really well with our type of females. We used him extensively in our heifer pen, he exceeded our calving ease and growth expectations. His sons are attractive made, with a square hip structure to them and an ideal hind leg set.

• Guiness is our lead off bull out of the Epic sire group. This bull is as complete of a bull from front to back that we have raised here. The structure and soundness of this young herdsire is what we try to produce. A bull that is so smooth shouldered with neck extension, his depth of body and flank is superior. He is backed by one of the biggest cow families in the program, the Wynnemaker female never lets us down raising front end cattle consistently.

Guiness is out of a first calving Downtown female, when they come out of the starting block raising a bull of this kind, you get a bit excited for their future.

When we talk bulls we love to see some presence and character in our bulls this bull carries on that same Downtown swagger.

• Good Fortune is one of the real well rounded Epic sons in the sale. Combination of calving ease and maternal traits are deeply engraved in this pedigree. Being a full brother in blood to the lot 1 bull we feel this bull has some very strong assets. His dam was shown in 2018, we feel she is right for the times. Good Fortune is a calving ease bull that can be used on heifers, he will improve udder quality and structure.

• This WCR Commissioner bull out of the Abby female is a real stud. He is a huge barrelled, deep bodied, thick made bull that is an absolute truck. The Abby progeny are impressive; they have the hip structure and width of pin that we want to produce . When you combine the calving ease of WCR Commissioner into his pedigree, I think you have a very well rounded bull with some eye appeal and performance.

• Grown up will just be over a year at sale time, this bull is pretty legit. He is sired by a Pastor son out of the great Lizzie female that we use to clean up later calving cows. His Silver Buckle dam is a real low maintenance female that can produce some real performance bulls with a look to them. BIDDING: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

DISPUTES: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the lat bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. assume no liability, legal or otherwise for any accidents that occur.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry papers issued by the appropriate breed association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

BREEDER GUARANTEE: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date or purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

EXCEPTION GUARANTEE: In the case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

INSURANCE: Wilgenbusch Charolais offers insurance and it will be available sale day.
