We run our operation in a way that is advantageous to our customer. Creating and developing genetics with the ability to add value to your operations is a role that we take very seriously. We stay in contact with you so that we can be constantly working to fulfill the genetic needs you are seeking. The fall of 2023 and the early winter of 2024 has seen a rise in feeder cattle value. With cowherd numbers across the country in seemingly constant recession we are entering into an untold era of simple supply and demand economics where the producer is poised to see returns that we haven’t seen before. Like any balance sheet there are additional factors that come into play when it comes to profitability beyond the gross selling price. Intangibles like fuel, land, and an abundance of other costs effect your profitability. Genetics should not be another thing that negatively effect your bottom line. Cow longevity, cattle that convert to their full potential with less forage and concentrates, as well as more live calves from cattle that are designed to be born and get up and go are traits that never become irrelevant when it comes to your cowherd’s genetic profit potential. We continue to develop genetics that fit these ideals as well as continue to add more muscle, more weaning performance, as well as more of a consideration to carcass value traits such as marbling. The direction of our program is driven by you, our customers, and we are thankful to get to work with so many innovative operations that continue to share their thoughts and experiences with us. Our cowherd has a focus on maternal value with a balanced approach when is comes to creating genetics that excel through all the levels of the beef production sector. We will again be offering open commercial females from our own cowherd as well as from a few customers. Our heifers are F1s that will offer you the maternal value we strive to produce. They are the type that you can use to continue to create cowherd replacements or breed them terminally to capitalize on the value of a three-way cross and the added pounds that come from hybrid vigor. Misty Ridge Ranch Ltd owned by Tenille, Kelby, and Beau Stevens are bringing a top cut group of Red Angus heifers. They are a progressive operation with a focus on cattle that can perform in any environment. They are great young breeders and have a vast amount of knowledge in not only the cattle industry but the cropping sector. Be sure to check out their listing and to contact them with any questions. Mo Angus owned by Mona, Hayes, and Georgia Howe are again bringing a set of Black Angus heifers from the top of their commercial production. These females come from highly efficient grass cattle bred genetics. We have utilized these females in the past and they continue to impress us with how well they have adapted and excelled in our program. These operations are both progressive and are a real pleasure to get to work with. We highly recommend their females. Thank you. Two words that at times don’t seem like enough. We want to speak our appreciation for the help from a few people we have had at home throughout the year. Iain and Bryan have been an asset to us in everything mechanical. Bryan shows us a patience to fix what needs to be fixed and maintains a constant focus to see a task done. Iain shows us diligence while putting in some long hours behind the wheel of a tractor during planting and harvesting. He has a dedication and treats our equipment like his own. Additionally, Iain is a hand with an AI gun and still leads Amanda in Greg on the most cows bred last year. Both are great young men that we feel fortunate to have their help part time. Dwayne and Miriam were mid year additions and though their time here ended this fall a friendship to last a lifetime was developed. When Dwayne came to us the job that was to last a month turned into a great summer and fall filled with laughs, some head scratches, and a few words of a new language learned. Miriam showed us that there is no sense in being afraid to try new things. Her vigor showed us that you likely can have fun doing just about anything. Having help in their late teens and early twenties reminded us that we all can continue to develop new skills and learn from each other. To our family, neighbors, and friends; thank you for being a part of what we do here. We say it often to each other and want to relay to you that we feel fortunate to have a great community to live and work in. VOLUME DISCOUNT: If you need 3 or more bulls we will provide you with a 3% discount on the total purchase price of the bulls. BULL DEVELOPMENT AND DELIVERY OPTIONS: Pugh Farms reserves the right to draw semen on any of the bulls in the offering at their own cost and buyer’s convenience. We will start delivering the bulls to their new homes after April 1st. and we will also arrange a day that the bulls can be picked up mid April at Dryland. Whichever option suits the buyer. All heifers need to be picked up on sale day. BREEDER GUARANTEE: Pugh Farms guarantees our bulls to be sound, fertile and reproductive in accordance with the rules and regulations of the respective Breed Associations. If a problem occurs, please contact us immediately and we will provide a suitable replacement (bulls only) or take a sale credit. FERTILITY TEST: All the bulls have been semen tested prior to the sale. If for some reason a bull is evaluated as a not sound breeder prior to him being turned out with cows in 2024 a suitable replacement of equal value will be available to the buyer and or a credit towards the purchase of another bull of which the value will be decided upon between the buyer and the seller. HERD HEALTH: All bulls were vaccinated at birth with Bovilis Nasalgen 3-PMH intranasal and given LVSM8 oral mineral supplement. They were vaccinated at grass turn out time with Vista Once and Vision 8 Somnus and then again at pre conditioning for weaning they were given Vista Once and Vision 8 Somnus and poured with ivermectin . The bulls were given Safe-Guard crumbles in early fall and poured with Ivermectin and then poured with Clean Up mid winter.
2 We have added AngusGS testing to further evaluate our bulls in the offering. Genomic technology has been used to make EPDs more accurate. The genomic data increases the accuracy with which we relate animals to each other, verifying pedigree information, and allowing us to apply phenotypes of related animals to non-phenotyped animals. Genotyping animals has led to more accurate EPDs for younger animals. This means that doing the Angus GS test on an animal gives you as much information as having 23 calves with birth weights recorded and as many as 12 calves tested for individual feed intake. Updated Angus GS epds will be available sale day.

OUR BULL DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHY Our bulls are developed in contemporary groupings that are reflective of their age. The winter 60 day calving window produces the yearling bulls. These calves stay in the same group from birth until they are delivered to you. The spring born coming twoyear-olds are born in different groups reflective of the age of their dams and where they were wintered. Once they are weaned, they enter a single contemporary with the rest of the bulls that are of the same relative age difference of 60 days. They are summered the same on their dams as the winter born bulls but are weaned in the early winter instead of the fall, reflective of when in the seasons the bulls are 205+ days old. Being of different ages and developed for breeding at different stages of age; the development process is relatively the same for both groups. We wean the bulls into larger paddocks or pens depending on the time of year. The bull development side of the yard is designed to promote longevity and athleticism with the pens being on a slope to promote movement up and down an incline to further test structure and encourage natural muscle development. We utilize this same thought process when we send the bulls to summer grass either beside their mothers or as long yearlings in the case of the coming twos. The forage available in the pastures that we develop the bulls on is a plethora of native prairie grasses. The stocking density is typically low and the topography is rolling hills and coulees. This type of ground allows the bulls to develop in a way that promotes structural integrity and longevity by testing structural soundness. Our practice of developing the bulls in two contemporary groups further allows us to compare like to like and to also allow us the ability to analyze the bulls and cull out the ones that aren’t hitting the highest level of development. We background our commercial calf crop, so we are constantly selecting bulls to become steers to enter that side of our operation. This leaves us with breeding bulls that we can offer you that withstand the rigors of practical development giving them more of a chance to succeed in future breeding scenarios. Through the feeding process when the bulls are being developed for the sale, we are encouraging them to develop on a ration that is also reflective of their long term usage. This year the bulls were fed a ration that is mixed with a high protein cereal silage, corn silage and cut in alfalfa hay as well as a custom mineral package that is chelated and compliments the low level of concentrate, they are being fed. We get reports each fall on how our bulls handled their condition very well through the breeding season and how after being pulled from the breeding pasture they continue to flesh easily for winter. This is by design and with the knowledge that we are developing athletes. We also recognize that this form of development promotes the replication of highly heritable true genetic value when it comes to weight gains, muscling, and longevity. Cattle with Integrity isn’t just a tagline here. It’s the standard in which these genetics are created and replicated.
THOUGHTS FROM OUR NUTRITIONIST The bulls at Pugh Farms are raised with quality and longevity as the foundation of their breeding program. Proper nutrition doesn’t just start at weaning but starts in the cow at conception. Each year, a well-planned nutrition program is in place from conception to sale time. The targeted supplementation of organic minerals and vitamins throughout the year optimizes health and growth in the bulls for sale every year. From weaning on, the balance to challenge bull development without risking longevity is met with high-quality forage blends and a mixture of oats and barley. This is key for developing structure and not compromising fertility and soundness in breeding bulls. Feeding with a Total Mixed Ration ensures the consistent delivery of all nutrients, to all bulls, to ensure every mouthful of feed is the same throughout the feed-bunk. Fancy late April/May commercial Angus replacement heifers. Highly efficient grass cattle bred for excellent docility, fertility and efficiency with the utmost attention paid to foot and udder quality and as always, developed for superior longevity. Herd health includes Inforce 3, Vison 8 and pour-on Ivermectin.
Misty Ridge Ranch has a top set of replacements on offer. One iron red angus heifers calved in march/April are sure to perform in any environment. Easy keeping, Docile, high yielding, females have been the focus of Misty Ridge Ranch for years. Herd health consists of of bovisheild one shot, melocicam, and Ultrabac 7/som at branding, bovisheild gold FP5 in Feb.

LOT C CONSIGNED BY PUGH FARMS Greg 780-806-1319, Amanda 639-840-0522 We are offering a fancy set of F1 Hereford cross Angus heifers from the top of our replacements. These heifers have been developed utilizing our own genetics and like our bulls they are designed to thrive on grass and produce progeny that will excel in any crossbreeding program. These were vaccinated with Vista Once and Vision 8 with Somn at spring turn out. Then they were given Vista Once and Vision 8 with Somn pre weaning and poured with Ivermectin at weaning. No Macrolide antibiotics or implants given at weaning induction. They have been on a cereal silage/alfalfa hay/straw feed diet TMR since weaning with a balanced mineral package.
