YEARLING BULLS Yearling bulls selling will not be semen tested prior to sale time December 1st, however they sell with a complete cash back guarantee and will be tested prior to delivery. Complimentary wintering and delivery is included on the yearling bulls until April 1st.

TERMS: Unless otherwise previously arranged with an individual consignor, terms of this sale are cash payable in Canadian funds at the prevailing rate of exchange on the day of sale. All cattle may be held until the selling agent is satisfied that suitable arrangements for payment are made.

IN THE CASE OF ILLNESS, a veterinarian will be called by the Sales Manager if deemed necessary, but any expense involved will be the responsibility of the CONSIGNOR until the animal is sold and the PURCHASER thereafter.

AS SOON AS AN ANIMAL IS SOLD, it becomes the responsibility of the purchaser.

BIDS: Every animal entering the sale ring will be sold to the highest bidder. There will be no by-bidding by the owner or anyone authorized by him, however, the owner will be permitted one protective bid.

DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the Auction Stand at sale time, and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A Canadian certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement is made.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of the buyers, neither the Auction Market, the Sales Manager, nor any owner assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident of loss of property.

LIABILITY: Kueber Farms and Viking Auction Mart are acting as agents only and assume no responsibility for representations made by the seller. Purchasers must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made by the seller.

BREEDERS GUARANTEE: The terms standard with the Canadian Angus Association shall apply. Beyond that: (a) All animals sold are guaranteed breeders. (b) All bred females have been declared safe in calf by a qualified veterinarian. Pregnant females are guaranteed pregnant a minimum of ninety (90) days. (c) All mature females raised a calf in this year. (d) All calendar year heifers are guaranteed open at time of sale. Any animal that has not proven itself a breeder within six months after the date of sale, if, in healthy condition, may be returned to seller at buyer’s expense. The seller reserves the privilege of trying for a period of six months to prove the animal a breeder. The seller, at his option, may either return the purchase price to the buyer or replace the animal with another of equal value in full settlement and satisfaction of ALL claims. Any complaints regarding fertility of any animal in this sale shall be directed to the Contributor. All complaints regarding breeding difficulties must be reported in writing by the buyer to the seller within the time specified above and any animal returned must be free from disease and in good health. It is with mixed emotions I sit here to write the welcoming remarks for our Complete Angus Dispersal that will take place December 1st in Viking, AB. For the past 23 years we have been quietly breeding Angus cattle at our farm south of Killam and hold great passion for the Angus breed, cattle industry, and the way of life which comes with the business.

Due to minor health issues and lack of human resource capacity at this time- we’ve made the difficult decision to offer the entirety of our esteemed Angus herd at public auction.

Though the thought of dispersing over two decades of intensive and selective breeding is daunting- the production of this catalogue and preparation for this sale has been a very rewarding experience. To sequence this catalogue- placing on paper- the way each cow family and breeding piece fits together, has produced, and the way they are positioned to propagate- leaves one feeling incredibly optimistic about the breed and the impact these genetics will go on to have.

From the very early years our mission has been heritability, productivity, and phenotype. We have never been ‘EPD people’ and we never will be ‘EPD people’. We believe the individual in the flesh should come first. The individual should be supported by actual performance numbers and data (not speculative). Their production should be consistent and the heritability of their genetics evident in their progeny every year. In terms of phenotype, we strive for sound structured cattle from the ground up. With the direction heavily EPD focused programs appear to be driving phenotype, we’ve paid special attention to selecting correct hindlegs, square tail heads, nice heartgirths, natural thickness, and typey angus heads. In recent years we’ve been studying the bonsma principles and the correlation between phenotype and traits such as fertility. In addition to production, we believe phenotype, structure, and fertility is longevity; thus it is seldom we put up with an ugly cow.

Throughout the elaborate footnotes you will see qualitative information provided in the form of our logic or reasoning for genetics selection whether it be an AI sire, walking herd sire, or the next cornerstone female. It is our goal annually to acquire as much qualitative information about these genetics as possible to complement the actual data. In almost all cases, we made an effort to see the genetics behind all of these bulls or in some cases, sire groups from these genetics.

We are located in Central Alberta where we have some of the best chernozemic soils. Grain land is predominant and pasture land is a scarcity. Our land base has kept the herd small and enforced strict culling.

From a human resources standpoint, it was more efficient for us to set up a large number of recipients at one time so we could attain the most AI matings while having a narrower calving interval. There have been some pretty solid cows in this offering that were set up and used as recipients- to no fault of their own. If you find yourself on the Angus Database and notice a female in this sale is missing a calf or has a ‘glitch’ in her performance record- it is most probable she was used as a recipient and successfully carried and raised a calf that year (or many years) which isn’t reflected on the database. I’d be happy to verify these cases on an individual basis for the discerning buyer.

In August we were fortunate to host the Northern Alberta Angus Club tour where we very much enjoyed hosting nearly 100 fellow cattle enthusiasts to our farm- thanks to the Northern Alberta Angus Club and OBI Livestock for coordinating this venture. The comradery continued on tours throughout early and mid fall and we were humbled by the comments “hidden gem”, “I wish we’d stopped by sooner” and “even better than her picture”. Regrettably, this lead us to the conclusion we didn’t do as much marketing and promotion over the years as we should have to give this program the prominence it deserves.

Endless thanks go to various mentors we’ve had the last 23 years. In my teens I was fortunate to partner with the Schneider’s at Northline Angus where I gained exposure to some of the top shows across the continent including NWSS, NILE, Farmfair, etc where we displayed and showed partnership genetics. It was an invaluable experience being involved in the process to prepare cattle for this level of exhibition. It also provided the opportunity to evaluate contemporary genetics on both sides of the border and network with breeders and industry professionals. Just down the road- the Gibbs of the historic Skillymarno Angus were influential in steering us towards the breed. Locally, Fred & Carol Wilson also remained very supportive and encouraging to us and without the land we were able to utilize- we would not have been able to grow to the extent we did.

Fellow breeders Steven Lang & family- it was a pleasure hosting our annual bull sale with you every year in Viking and we will miss this endeavor. There are several other countless breeders, sales management teams, and industry professionals who have become not just business partners, but friends. We will continue to hold great respect and value for these relationships we were able to foster and look forward to keeping in touch.

In closing, it is an honour and surreal to have been named 2023 Alberta Angus Association Breeder of the Year on this very special year for us. The greatest result from this sale is going to be witnessing where these cows go and the impact they will undoubtedly have. With a little more marketing and a little more managing than what we did- one could sure reap the rewards of these productive and heritable genetics.

After seeing the impressive Rose 1019 in Radville, SK- I new one day we needed to acquire a ‘Rose’ of our own. Our early attempts at acquiring her son, Brooking Real Estate 6072 were not fruitful though our luck seemed to have taken a turn for the better when an exclusive semen package was offered through the historic Motive Event. We flushed our top cows at the time; Rosebud 32Y and Whiskeygirl 592A to Real Estate which proved very successful resulting in a number of bull sale highlights, and numerous stunning females - 5 of which are in this very sale. Though we were impressed with the job 6072 had done- I still wanted a Rose of our own to propagate the matriarch we were growing increasingly fond of. In the fall of 2020 we acquired Rose 9250G from Rusts in ND. At the time she did not fit our calving program- but nonetheless we were captivated by her phenotype, design, and structure- mated back to the exciting Rainmaker son, Ellingson Acquifer. Late spring 2021 she calved a beautiful heifer calf to Ellingson Acquifer which transitioned into a phenotypically stunning, docile and productive two year old (LOT 2). In 2021 we did not have intentions of dispersing and ideally wanted to run with this ‘Rose’ line and as a result, we flushed her quite early on in her career which was one of the best breeding decisions we’ve made to date. Her progeny on offer today are by 4 varying sires proving her maternal potency and heritability as a breeding piece. Rose has not just proven herself as a phenotypic standout with impeccable udder structure, foot quality, capacity and productivity- but as a cow that replicates these qualities into various service sires. All of her progeny to date are in this sale and both bull and heifer calves on offer have big time herd-bull and future donor potential. Her natural bull calf at side by GameNight is a sight to behold possessing much muscle shape and stoutness combined with correct structure and what appears to be excellent scrotal shape and size. Her ETs by Trust possess a lot of growth and capacity that is unique for how nice structured all of these progeny remain. Many people have toured and suggested this matriarch is “even better than her picture”. The influence of Rose is world renown as evident by the elite offering put together for the Rose Bowl sale in addition to the contemporary breeding bulls Brooking National, Brooking Major, Brooking Real Estate, and a multitude of donor quality females. Fay 9L is a beautifully constructed daughter of Fay 4E who is a full sister to Fay 135E, and grand dam to Fay 4J. 4E was unfortunately injured this summer and was not able to be catalogued for this sale. Our Rosebud cow family descends from MWC Rosebud 32Y who was purchased as a fall born calf through the MWC Investments Dispersal and notably comes from Rosebud 115F who was Premier Dam at the World Angus Forum in 2009. Rosebud 32Y was our initial cornerstone female which we decided to build around for great reason due to the consistency she has demonstrated in her 11+ years at our place. Her daughters all have demonstrated that same big bodied, deep ribbed, nice made, correct phenotype which the Rosebuds are known for. Not only are the Rosebuds around here nice to look at- annually they wean 80%+ of their bodyweight and are the true epitome of productive cows. An absolutely stunning daughter of Real Estate 6072 and Rosebud 32Y. Rosebud 13G is possibly the ‘Rosebud’ of the group who most closely replicates her dam 32Y, except is perhaps even more attractive through her front third offering a more extended and erect head and neck. Her first calf Rosebud 13J by McCumber Tribute caught the astute eye of Grayden Kay, and was selected out of the pen private treaty. Her first son, Firebrand 89K patterns her closely in terms of design saw brief exposure to some of our later calving cows. In 2022, 13G cycled at the wrong place at the wrong time and due to our limited human resources at breeding season was implanted a week later with the rest of the recips to increase the number of AI matings. She calved this spring with the feature Rosebud 113L calf- which is the sole reason she does not show as raising a calf in 2023 on the CAA registry. We selected this phenotypically stunning bull in the spring of 2023 as the high seller out of the Jaymarandy Bull sale to add his unique blend of sensible performance, maternal potency and structural integrity in a perfect footed, long-spined package. We wanted to support a smaller angus breeder whose program we admired from not just a phenotype but production standpoint... a program where we knew our invested dollars would go a long ways towards the purchase of a impactful breeding piece. Phenotypically, The Lion is excellent- with his ideal head and skull shape tying into an upright but masculine neck offering an elongated skeleton- standing square on all four corners. He possesses an expressive lower quarter, remains smooth hearted and offers moderate birthweights and efficient frame size. Judge Brett Wildman verified our thoughts on The Lion 125J when he selected him as Champion Junior Yearling Bull at the 2022 Canadian Western Agribition.

Maternally, The Lion 125J is elite- coming directly from the Grace 640D donor who not only exhibits ideal udder quality but remains sound structured and built for the long haul. Grace 640D is proving her potency and heritability in her production as noted by herd sire Jaymarandy Lights N Sirens 911G and True North 902G in addition to The Lion 125J. Genetically, The Lion is a unique “made in Canada” solution that culminates some of the top bloodlines and programs available. The Lion 125J recently claimed Senior Champion bull at Brandon AgEx, while a son of The Lion claimed spring bull calf champion- a testament to his first calf crop. Hi Definition 185B produced one of the strongest pens of bulls that spring we decided to use him; they were noted for their consistent width of top, expressive muscle pattern, sound structure, good scrotals, YW performance, and hair.

185B turned out to be a great choice as all of the resulting progeny from this venture has been nothing short of standout. The ability of these two breeding pieces to replicate quality of both sexes is unique and a testament to the heritability and productivity of these genetics. Rosebud 2H, 4H, 6H, and 32H (owned by Gracedale) are all donor quality or donor candidates in their own right and the maternal merits of these genetics is undoubtable after analyzing these flushmates in production. Favorite 94B - aptly named and recognizable across the pasture- this stout made, deep ribbed, angular, feminine donor prospect was purchased through Blair’s Genetic Focus sale a number of years back and she is a direct daughter of the beautiful Crush 59R donor; Southland Favorite 88T who was sold to Rusts in North Dakota. Favorite 94B is a free moving individual who is sound to the ground where she stands on a solid dark foot. Her udder is ideal being neat and tidy characterized by small evenly placed teats. From a production standpoint, Favourite 94B has been stellar producer and a fertile cow. Sons Gunsmoke 81H (Shotgun Willie), Reckless 70G (Reckoning) and Strongbow 59K (2-Strong) were top of their contemporary groups on the red side and sold through our annual bull sale. Faith 12F is the result of an embryo package purchased out of the renown Red Round Up sale. We originally selected these genetics not only because Faith 5X was a beautiful uddered, correct and productive cow that appeared to replicate her qualities- but also because the Rob Roy 122K females are some of the best red females we’ve seen in existence to this day. Faith 12F is a direct daughter of Y3 Bar Faith 5X who was a picture perfect brood cow and also was successful in the show ring for Vikses as denoted by her winning the red show at farmfair in 2014. Faith 12J is a dark red, good footed, stout, moderate cow with an ideal udder defined by 4 evently spaced small teats and strong fore and rear attachments. Lucic 51L, the tremendous, hairy, deep sided future herd bull at her side- was admired by many in late August at the Northern AB Angus club tour. Typical of our red program; he is a nicely constructed, soft-middled, easy doing bull with a masculine crest and a correct set of feet and legs. The Lassie Family was acquired when we purchased Leonard Tuftys entire embryo inventory a few years ago. Two full sisters by Goldmaster & Kassie who are extremely long-spined and attractive on the side profile. Kassie herself showed great longevity producing well into her teens, most notably Northline Revival who was successful south of the border, and Young Kassie who was at her side when they won Gr.
