Secret Garden Dine and Bid Benefit Auction 2017 Our “Secret Garden” theme is a reminder that a small, beautiful and thriving university set high on a hill is a treasure to behold. We are not trying to make UJ the best kept secret in North Dakota; we do encourage as many people as possible to see our jewel-box campus, the most beautiful in North Dakota.

Our 31st year of Dine and Bid at the University of Jamestown gives us the chance to keep our garden green with the dollars that you help raise for student scholarships! UJ scholarships support our great students as they bring fresh vitality and energy to our community. At the very center of this traditional evening is the recognition that we are stronger together than apart, and that the University is important to our prosperity and to our cultural identity as a community. The latest example is the recent decision to launch, in cooperation with the business community and local government, a center for entrepreneurship led by the University.

Donna and I are proud to welcome you to tonight’s dinner and auction to benefit student scholarships. This is such an important time in our history together.

The largest building project in our history will open in September—the Harold Newman Arena will become a great community and university venue for this region. Both a new undergraduate Mechanical Engineering program, housed in renovated Sorkness Hall, and a Masters of Science in Counseling degree are now being offered in Jamestown—these are the newest additions to our growing number of academic opportunities.

Your support tonight is vital to our students and to our future, so please bid with fervor in support of North Dakota’s only “Top-25” US News and World Report institution. We would not have reached such recognition without the full support of our Jamestown community!

University of Jamestown Dine & Bid Auction Rules

1. A purchase card indicating the highest bidder will be given to the purchaser at the close of the bidding for that item. Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card throughout the evening at the cashier’s desk. All checks should be made payable to University of Jamestown.

2. All arrangements are to be made between the donor and the buyer within one month of the auction, unless otherwise specified. All trips, items, and services must be used within one year of the auction, unless otherwise specified. If the auction item is not used in a period of one year following the auction, donors are no longer obligated to provide services, trips, etc.

3. All sales are final unless otherwise noted. There will be no exchange or refund of items.

4. Items displayed at the Larson Center must be taken the evening of the auction after payment has been made for the item(s). Please take all packaging and accessories for purchased items.

5. Every attempt has been made to describe and present the auction items and services accurately. If there is a discrepancy, the decision of the donor shall prevail.

Silent Auction Bidding Procedure To bid on a Silent Auction item, write your bidding number and the amount of your bid on the form provided. You may bid on a Silent Auction item until the Master of Ceremonies notifies guests that the Silent Auction group is closed.

Warnings will be given before each closing. You may bid on a Silent Auction item as often as you like. Once each auction closes, a carbon copy of bids will remain on the auction tables, identifying the successful bidder. Successful bidders will also receive a purchase card.

There is a $25 minimum initial bid / $5 minimum raise thereafter.

VISA, MASTERCARD, and DISCOVER are accepted.

We’re ready to give you a hand! Members of the Jimmie Football Team are ready to assist you. They will lift, move, and carry your items to your car for a modest tip. If you live in Jamestown, we can even deliver to your home tonight.

Student 50/50 Auction and Event at 7:30 p.m.

You bid; they perform. Here is your chance to win big money and share big money with the Scholarship Fund! You have the opportunity to bid on your favorite group for the Student 50/50 Auction and Event.

Student teams will compete to be named the most entertaining. The proceeds from all five winning bids will be combined and split 50/50 between University of Jamestown student scholarships and the bidders who selected the winning student group.

This is how it will work: 1. After an initial introduction of each team, the five student groups will be auctioned off. The five highest bidders will each select the University of Jamestown student group they think will be the winners of the Student 50/50 Auction and Event. a. Get together and bid with your friends or table companions!

2. Representatives from the five student groups will then face off as they compete in a lip sync battle.

3. Following all of the group performances, each crowd member will place their vote via the ticket at the back of their Dine and Bid catalog. Just check the team that you think performed the best.

4. The group receiving the highest number of votes has won the 50/50 Auction for the person/table that bid on them. The winning bidder will go home with half of the pot! The winning team will receive $500 for their club.

Jeremy R. Wells 158. 1937 Oldsmobile Minimum Bid: $8,000 If you enjoy classic cars, this 1937 Oldsmobile is for you! It was in a North Dakota family for years. A 79-year-old friend of the University of Jamestown learned to drive in this car when she was 12. She donated the car to UJ in 2012, and she told us that she had a very strong attachment to the car, and she was hopeful that whoever bought it would drive it, and would “treasure it.” She said it’s mainly been on ND back roads. The original color, in her recollection, was more of a steel blue. It has been re-painted and it has been reupholstered. The electrical system and the lights have been updated. The 1937 manual that goes with the car is included. In 2013, UJ Board Member, A. Bart Holaday, purchased the car from the University, and he is now ready to pass it on to another faithful UJ alumni or friend.
