Our Story

In 2011, after years in the hearth industry, Spotix founder Scott Ramspott started the company in the basement of his condo with two main visions of what the company would do: offer luxury hearth, patio, and barbecue products that weren’t available in most brick-and-mortar stores and back them with industry-leading product expertise. “Buy nice, or buy twice” has been the motto that’s resonated with employees & customers who share an appreciation for our high quality products.

Today, the Spotix family of brands includes Spotix, Firepits Direct, Fireplaces Direct, Fireplace Remote Controls, and Kickass Grills. We’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing companies in Eastern Iowa for several years running and also recently be named one of the “Coolest Places to Work‘’.

The Spotix team has decades of hearth, patio, and barbecue experience. We love to share our extensive product knowledge to help curate the best living spaces for our customers’ homes or businesses.

From Accounting to the Warehouse and every department between, we have a team filled with talented and peoplecentric employees. Our team’s ambition to always excel and act with integrity sets the tone for a genuinely positive place to work. We believe our environment creates a positive customer experience from beginning to end.

What’s Important at Spotix

From Friday afternoon cookouts to company happy hours, Scott has always instigated good times at Spotix and created some memorable moments–we’ll let him explain the story behind a bicycle accident, “just one more”, or Aaron and the elevator. Of course, it helps that we represent products that focus on relaxing and having a good time with friends and family. Whether gathering around a fire pit or fireplace, or the beckoning smells of BBQ from a smoker, our products encourage the best moments to happen.

So it’s no surprise that as we were brainstorming Spotix’s Mission, Vision, and Values, we recognized that the Spotix team has always intertwined work & play. Our team demonstrates a genuine fun-loving spirit while also looking to enrich customers’ & co-workers’ lives alike. With that, we have built a clear guide for our company.

Mission

Elevate gathering spaces with insightful guidance, exceptional products, and authentic service for those who celebrate life’s moments. This statement reflects our culture, influences the actions and attitudes of our people, and provides us with purpose and pride. Our intention is to elevate the gathering spaces in which these take place to a degree above the rest.

Cultural Team Award

The Spotix Stand Out Performer is a quarterly award to honor a Spotix team member who exemplifies Spotix’ Mission, Vision, & Values. The honoree will be rewarded with extra PTO and recognition from the entire organization.

Best of all, this is a peer-based award. Each quarter, all Spotix team members will be surveyed to select the person who best exemplifies Spotix’s Mission, Vision, & Values and explain why they are the Spotix Stand Out Performer.

We find that the people who are successful at Spotix display a great combination of ambition, understanding, and genuine nature to be flexible, no matter if we’re 10 employees or 200 employees.

Why it Matters

When bringing together a group of people from different walks of life, a set of shared beliefs and practices is the glue that holds everything together. Team members who embrace this mutual culture can communicate better, promote a positive environment, and grow in their roles more effectively.

We have seen that it’s easier to train skills & knowledge than it is to train personality traits. By doing so, we’ve created an environment that makes it easy to work across departments; where employees are eager to help each other, and better work relationships are formed.

How we Maintain Our Culture

Whether communication happens through our Spotix All chat, the Help Center, or during a Friday afternoon happy hour, our employees get a chance to speak their minds and be heard.

We went through the pandemic with record-breaking growth, in large part due to the team’s ability to adapt and overcome challenges. While we hope we never have to repeat those circumstances, it further entrenches our appreciation for every individual’s voice, work, and dedication to contribute to Spotix.

And, as always, Scott will be at the front of the line to make sure we celebrate these accomplishments together.

January 2012 Move from Scott’s condo to new location on Penn Court in North Liberty.

March 2012 KickAssGrills.com is purchased.

December 2015 Outgrew the 30,000ft space available at Penn Court, found future space developing on Stoner Ct.

Spotix and Beyond

Spotix is well on its way to our primary goal: becoming a widely recognized and trusted brand in the premium Hearth, Patio, and Barbecue industry. Our company culture is a big piece of our success so far and will continue to play a part as we move into the future.

As we continue to grow, these values will be assessed, analyzed, and updated as needed to maintain our agility in the years to come. By investing in our people and our identity, we envision sustainable growth for the foreseeable future. Along the way, we want to share in the success with every employee that contributes to making this possible.
