Am er ican In t er ven t ion in t h e An glo-Ir ish Con f lict Last w eek By John McNally US Congress member Richie Neal, Chair of the Ways and Means Committee on Capitol Hill, led a Congressional delegation from Washington to Brussels, London, Dublin, Derry, and Belfast. The delegation met with an extensive range of political representatives, including Government representatives and civic society. The Americans were well received by Irish Nationalists. Unionists complained the Americans didn't understand their issues with the Brexit Protocol and were irate when Neal referred to them as "Planters" as in the old saying that Ireland's conflict is between The Planter and the Gael. Interesting though, it is thought that Gerry Adams lineage goes back to Planter stock, while Ian Paisley's was bog Irish from County Cavan. In addition to the Protocol, the American delegation encouraged the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement. It condemned Britain's changes to legacy laws that will take away the rights to Inquests, civil suits, and Ombudsman Investigations, which have brought some truth and criminal prosecutions for State killings covered up at the time.
