Established in 1935, the Lon g Beach Sym ph on y marks its 83rd season in 2017-2018. Each year the Symphony draws audiences to its six Classical concerts in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center Terrace Theater and five POPS! concert events in the Long Beach Arena. The Symphony partners with the Long Beach Unified School District to provide over 150 free music education programs throughout the year. Through its comprehensive music education programs? including professional ensembles in elementary and middle schools and the Symphony Concerts for Young People program ? the Symphony reaches more than 24,000

Wells of Lif e?s An n u al Ru n 4Wat er Set f or Apr il 22 Wells of Life will host the Fourth Annual Run4Water 5K and 1K on Sunday, April 22 at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. Run4Water is the single largest fundraiser for Wells of Life which funds water wells for poor villagers in Uganda, Africa. In addition to the timed 5K & 1K runs, Run4Water features a festival with exhibit booths, give-a-ways, food booths and entertainment.

of Life aims drill 1,000 water wells in ten year period to serve 1 million villagers in Uganda. Plans are also underway to build a training and educational center in Uganda. The nonprofit organization views the provision of clean water as the catalyst that drives change and revolutionizes community life for Uganda?s poorest villages.
Run4Water organizers aim to recruit 40 teams to fund 40 wells at a $6000 cost per well. Each well provides clean water for 1000 people for up to twenty-five years. All non-well expenses are raised through private donations and fundraisers, so 100% of the well production is funded by donors. GREENI NG YEAR NI NE I n 2017 a record 295 iconic landmarks across the world went green for St Patrick?s Day, as part of Tourism Ireland?s Global Greening initiative, putting the island of Ireland centre stage and kick-starting the tourism season. The final tally is not yet in for 2018 but it is probably going to be higher! Across 45 countries and from Rome to Rio, London to Las Vegas, prominent sites and icons go green to celebrate Ireland's Patron Saint and National Day. In New York, thr One World Trade Center (the main building of the re-built World Trade Center complex ) was illuminated and it is on the 2018 list of structures that will pay tribute to the Great Saint and Irish Culture and History. The beautiful Petit Palais on the Champs-Élysées in Paris and the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc in Barcelona. They were joined, in this eighth year of Global Greening, by some old favourites like the Colosseum in Rome, (pg 20), the Sacré Coeur basilica in Paris, (Pg 20), the Great Wall of China, Niagara Falls and the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro( pg 19). Nature and some might say God still pull off the most awesome GREEN as evidenced by the Northern Lights over Greenland pictured at the bottom of this page!

You Can?t Pull a Fast One on a Nun Recently married couple, Brendan (Owen Dara) and Nicole (Jessica Lancaster), are settling into their future life together in Ireland, but Nicole feels like things are a little too settled.Brendan is quite fastidious, harping on Nicole to hang up her clothes, and put her coffee cup in the recycling bin.Nicole is growing increasingly bored of discussions of utility bills and contemplates returning to the US. Meanwhile, Brendan?s mate Colm (Stiofan Wyley) feels like he and his co-workers are being taken advantage of by their boss, Ronan McSweeny (Martin Blower), and deserve more compensation.He has installed a nanny cam in his boss?office with the hopes of capturing the combination to the safe. When Colm comes to Brendan soliciting his help with the heist, Brendan categorically refuses to help. But then, when Nicole voices her restlessness and desire to return home, Brendan shares the plans to rob the safe with her.She enthusiastically shares her approval and wants to be part of the fun.When their friend Shane (Sean McNally) stumbles upon their scheme, they reluctantly have their thieving foursome. But this isn?t your typical caper, as you can imagine when you have four rookie thieves.As the movie progresses through the heist planning and execution, there are a series of obstacles that have to be overcome, and writer Owen Dara takes the opportunity to show us a glimpse into small town Irish life while tickling our funny bones. The practical joking pair of Garda (police) are one of the highlights of this movie.The partners (Kevin McCormack and Frank Prendergast) are constantly trying to ?one up? each other and at one point, Brendan gets mixed up in the fray.This is a great base for some comical near misses and keeps the audience on their toes as to when the robbers will get pinched.There are also some great scenes where the robbers are ?hiding in plain sight.? Ultimately, it isn?t the jokester Garda, but the nuns that administer the penitence on our foursome with comical results.One of the best quotes in the movie is a line from Sister Assumpta when Nicole tells her that she needs to leave early to catch her flight to America which is completely non-refundable.The Sister matter-of-factly states ?There?s one thing you have to remember about life; it?s completely non-refundable too.? During the rolling of the credits, some old friends of ours, O?Brien?s on Wilshire, got a shout out for helping to produce the film by hosting a fundraiser.
