Then gather a large pan to a medium heat and drizzle a little rapeseed oil and and add the chicken. Cook for 4-5 minutes each side and allow to rest. Arrange the salad on a large bowl or plate place the figs and tomatoes around the plate. Place the chicken on top add the chili flakes and sprinkle the Habanero spice around the plate. Enjoy

Ou t Bef or e Ch r ist m as By M au r ice Fit zpat r ick K eir Star mer, leader of the UK L abour Par ty and of the Opposition, is not notor ious for his repar tee or his or ator y. Although he does his best, he is usually less than r iveting. Even so, he had a fine moment in the House of Commons dur ing the dying days of L iz Tr uss?Pr ime M inister ship. Citing a book that is being wr itten about her, he mentioned that it would be ?out before Chr istmas?. He then asked if that was the schedule of the book?s release or its title. Tr uss had introduced a mini-budget to funnel tens of millions into the pockets of the r ich. After announcing the mini-budget, Tr uss?Chancellor of the Exchequer, K wasi K war teng, made a beeline to clink glasses with City of L ondon tr ader s who have made a for tune out of the tsunamis that have washed over the Br itish economy since Brexit. However, this time the fallout of the Conser vative Par ty?s financial mismanagement was devastating and immediate. None of these tax cuts were funded, so the inter national bond mar kets became ner vous, and the ster ling plummeted. Tr uss has no gift for explanation and ever y time she opened her mouth ster ling lost value. She instantly became a leader in nothing but name. The for mer gover nor of the Bank of England, M ar k Car ney, encapsulated the economic wreckage of the past six year s in Br itain when he told the Financial Times in October : ?I n 2016, the Br itish economy was 90% the size of Ger many?s. Now it is less than 70% ?. Car ney also recalled repor ting on the day of the Brexit referendum result, in June 2016, as the pound?s value fell from $1.50 to $1.33 in a few hour s. At the time of wr iting the pound is wor th $1.17 and for mer US Secretar y of the Treasur y, L ar r y Summer s, thinks it will reach par ity. The analogy between the for mer DUP L eader Edwin Poots and L iz Tr uss is ir resistible. Both espouse politics that are not of this ear th. Neither of them can give an inter view. Both have had ter ms of leader ship that are counted not in year s but in days: Poots resigned as leader of DUP after 21 days; Tr uss?ter m of office extended 44 days. Both won the leader ship position over candidates who (for all their many faults) were undoubtedly better able for the j ob. Rishi Sunak would never have authored the mini-budget with which Tr uss destroyed her self and much else besides; Jefferey Donaldson lost to Poots but, when Donaldson subsequently replaced Poots, he succeeded in stanching the haemor r hage of suppor t from the DUP. The spir al of events that followed the ?mini-budget?was wor thy of a five-r ing circus. There was the bizar re spectacle of Tr uss sending one of her j unior colleagues to take L eader s Questions? in the House of Commons on the pretext that Tr uss was busy with other matter s. I nstead, L eader of the House of Commons, Penny M or dant, fielded questions, one of which quer ied if Tr uss was hiding under a table. There is an iron law in politics not to answer such a question head-on. Either denying or affir ming elicits j eer s. Yet Penny M or dant was not found wanting and added to the Conser vative Par ty meltdown: she confir med that the PM was not hiding under a desk, and the House ofCommons rocked with laughter. When Tr uss, who had been abundantly mocked for her absence, emer ged and sat on the front bench, she looked on as Penny M or dant continued to take the L eader ?s Questions.
On October 19th Tr uss maintained that she was ?not a quitter ?. The following day she quit. I n a statement she read outside Number 10 Downing Street, Tr uss said: ?This mor ning I met the chair man of the 1922 Committee, Sir Gr aham Br ady?. Enough said.bBor is Johnson had to walk the same plank in July. Br ady was r ight to make such bold inter ventions of cour se. Any more of Tr uss?or Johnson?s behaviour could have given the ?M other of Par liaments?a bad name. I n July this column suggested that Rishi Sunak was the most likely next pr ime minister of the UK Pr ime M inister. I nstead, the Conser vative Par ty opted for the near-suicidal option of staking its reputation for gover nance in L iz Tr uss. Sunak had to take the scenic route, but by October 24th Sunak had fended off the opposition, such as it was, to become the UK ?s thir d pr ime minister within two months. Sunak?s role is to calm the mar kets that have threatened to over whelm the UK economy. He made millions in the City of L ondon and surely under stands what his predecessor failed tobgr asp: when faced with a vacuum and instability the mar kets retaliate. M uch has been made of the installation of a slightly more realistic UK pr ime minister as inaugur ating better relations between L ondon and Dublin over the Nor ther n I reland Protocol. There is a lot of wishful thinking bound up in that as this UK gover nment seems likely to continue to use the protocol as a bar gaining chip to wr angle more concessions from the EU.
As an example of the endur ing cynicism, witness the new Secretar y of State for Nor ther n I reland calling a snap assembly election. Now that Chr istopher Heaton-Har r is has realised too late that neither the threat of an election, nor the imminent reality of one, has caused the DUP to rever se its position on refusing to retur n to the assembly in protest against Nor ther n I reland Protocol, he cannot decide what to do about the election he called ? and his author ity is gone. Stable and reliable cooper ation will probably only resume when the L abour Par ty replaces the Conser vatives. M eanwhile, the Conser vative Par ty j ugger naut splutter s on. Since December 2019, its suppor t has more than halved (from 43% down to around 20% ). Their centr al ambition now seems to be to last for as long as they can before elector al annihilation in a gener al election. I f they keep their heads, they might even make it to Apr il Fool?s Day.

From the artist Steve O'Loughlin; "So excited to be exhibiting my ICU Goodbye painting for the first time. It is such a hard topic and I thought it might never get shown. Painted in the summer of 2020 when the pandemic was raging and fear was near it's peak. It was inspired by the stories of nurses having to face-time families as their dear ones passed in isolation. I combined this with my own experience of my own father's death in the ICU [Intensive Care Unit] in 2017. He was surrounded by our whole family, and though hard it was a beautiful sad goodbye. Covid denied families this difficult but cathartic experience. I wanted acknowledge the suffering of the patient, the loved ones and honor the medical workers who performed this difficult task."
