Indianapolis, IN Indianapolis, often shortened to Indy, is the state capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Indiana and the seat of Marion County. With a population of around 855,000 people, it is the 15th largest city in the United States. The metropolitan area has more than 2 million residents, making Indianapolis the economic and cultural center of Indiana.
