Heritage Statement in support of internal and external alterations to the main property at 1 Palace Green and the demolition and replacement of rear two storey extension; installation of dormer window at roof level and replacement of coach house with basement beneath.
Iceni’s Built Heritage and Townscape Team produced a Heritage Statement to support works to a Grade II* property to restore and improve the property and support its adaptation for modern accessible use as the London residence of the Norwegian Royal Family.
One Palace Green is located in an area of high heritage significance and sits within a conservation area and the setting of numerous listed and locally listed buildings.

Working with Stansby Architecture, the scheme secured permission for alterations within the main historic building, the demolition and redesign of the existing Coach House, redevelopment of a later extension as well as extensive landscaping proposals.
The project grappled with the inherent tension of preserving significant and important historic fabric with the need for improved environmental performance and accessibility requirements. Iceni team Heritage and Townscape conducted a full building survey, supported by archival research. Our heritage statement identified areas of historic significance throughout the building which were used as the basis for discussions with RBKC.
The scheme demonstrated a full consideration for the Site’s heritage value. It also demonstrated a full understanding of the historic significance of the building whilst pro-actively informing an appropriate solution for its adaption to provide the accommodation necessary for its ongoing use and preservation as a designated heritage asset.
