Love, Loss, and Family: The Personal Life of Alexys
Vaulkenroth Wolf
"The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life." – Richard Bach
The story of Alexys Vaulkenroth Wolf’s personal life is one of love, resilience, and faith. It is a journey filled with challenges and triumphs that reflect her deep connection to her family and her unwavering belief in the power of love.
A Love That Started in Algebra
Alexys met her husband, Michael, during her sophomore year at Lexington High School in 1983. The two shared an algebra class where Alexys describes experiencing “love at first sight.” For her, it was instant. For Michael, it took a little longer to recognize the connection. Over time, their bond grew, and on May 4, 2002, they were married. Their relationship stands as a testament to the power of patience, understanding, and commitment.
The Joys and Challenges of Motherhood
Alexys and Michael’s journey as parents began with difficulty but also with immense joy. After enduring seven miscarriages, Alexys was finally able to carry their first child, Sophia, to term in June 2003. However, the pregnancy was far from easy. Alexys was on bed rest for most of it and had to deliver Sophia early through a C-section due to complications with amniotic fluid.
Sophia’s arrival was a miracle, but her challenges didn’t end there. She has faced lifelong health issues that require specialized medical care outside of their home state. Despite these struggles, Sophia has blossomed into a talented young woman with skills in crocheting, drawing, playing guitar, and other arts. She has set her sights on a career in the art world, carrying forward the creativity and resilience that her family has instilled in her.
An Unconventional Addition
Just six months after Sophia’s birth, the Wolf family grew once more. Genesis, who is the biological granddaughter of Alexys’ close friend Janice Jamison, became part of their family. Janice, already a single mother raising her school-age son and two other grandchildren, found herself unable to care for Genesis fully due to overwhelming responsibilities.
Without formal adoption, the Wolf family and the Jamison family co-parented Genesis in an unconventional but successful arrangement. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the
families’ cooperative efforts, Genesis was raised with love and support. Today, Genesis is a student at Winthrop University, where she is preparing for a career in medicine.
For Alexys, faith has always been the foundation of her life and family. The challenges she and Michael faced as parents only strengthened their reliance on God’s guidance. Through miscarriages, health struggles, and unconventional parenting arrangements, Alexys and Michael leaned on their faith to navigate each situation.
Their story is a reminder that family is not always defined by blood or tradition. It is built through love, shared experiences, and a willingness to adapt to life’s challenges.
A Lifelong Learner
In addition to her roles as a wife and mother, Alexys has pursued personal interests that reflect her curious and determined nature. She enjoys dabbling in languages, with a focus on German and Spanish. Her love of learning extends to every part of her life, showing her dedication to growth and understanding.
