HEY CDL. I am Reggie Biggs and I have been a Railroad Signal Maintainer at CDL Electric for five years (but have been in the railroad industry for 10 years). I am originally from Windsor, NC, but moved to Okeechobee, FL to be closer to my South Central Florida Express (SCFE) and United States Sugar Corporation (USSC) territory. My side of the railroad stretches around the east side of Lake Okeechobee.

I enjoy working with all of the knowledgeable maintainers and learning from them. For me, the hardest part of the job is not becoming complacent. It's easy to get comfortable doing what you're doing, but staying alert and being challenged without much warning is what keeps the job exciting. I enjoy the freedom and making my own schedule and constantly learning.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our three kids (plus my adorable Goddaughter who calls me "Dada" !). I am an avid gamer, and enjoy watching Pro Wrestling. My favorite food is sweets and my favorite place to visit is Orlando, specifically the area near Icon Park. If I could have lunch with one famous person it would be The Rock- he seems like the coolest guy to hang out with.

INTERESTING FACT ABOUT ME: I survived being hit by a car while riding my bike when I was 13 years old.

CDL HVAC began in 2008 and provides installation on new heating and cooling for homes and businesses, regardless the size of the project.

We have a few large jobs in the works for Girard High School, Sugar Creek, and AZZ. We are beginning stage five of a five year project at Girard High School to remove the current boiler hydronic system to update their HVAC systems technology.

Assisting with updating the HVAC system at Sugar Creek's plant expansion is a continuous project that we have been blessed to be a part of.

We want to give a shoutout to team members Trace Freeman, Josh Karleskint, Riley Cunningham, Jason Feagan, Ryan Sims, and Keving Bennefield for getting certified in installing and commissioning Daikin VRF systems.

We want remind and encourage everyone previous to summer starting, to ensure that, previous to summer, your A/C unit is clean of leaves and dirt, a new air filter is installed, and the blower wheel is clean. This will promote proper functioning of your A/C unit and help to prevent any complications.

Our five year goal is to secure that the Humboldt and Joplin offices are operating fully on their own, as well as get the Parson's office an operating HVAC shop.

HEAT ILLNESS AWARENESS

Between 1979 and 2018, the death rate as a direct result of exposure to heat (underlying cause of death) generally hovered between 0.5 and 2 deaths per million people, with spikes in certain years. Overall, a total of more than 11,000 Americans have died from heat-related causes since, an average of 282 people per year Heat Illness Disorders and Symptoms (in order of progressing severity) Heat Rash – Skin rash which commonly occurs under hot and humid conditions where sweat does not evaporate readily. Characterized by irritated/itchy skin with prickly feeling and small red bumps on skin.

Heat Cramps – Muscle cramping due to loss of salt through sweating. Can be the first sign of more serious heat illness. Characterized by muscle spasms in arms, legs, and abdomen during or following work activities.

Heat Syncope – Fainting caused by heat exposure and blood pooling in lower portions of the body.

Heat Exhaustion – Profuse sweating which results in dehydration. Characterized by: fatigue, dizziness, and nausea; pale and moist skin; and possibly slightly elevated temperature. Can progress quickly to heat stroke, if ignored.

Heat Stroke – Sweating stops and the body fails to regulate its temperature. Victims may die if they don’t receive immediate medical treatment. Characterized by: mental confusion, fainting, or seizures; hot dry skin usually reddish in color; and high body temperature.

Treatments for Heat Illness Disorders Heat Rash – Wash and dry skin. Wear loose clothing and keep skin dry.

Heat Syncope, Heat Cramps, or Heat Exhaustion – MONITOR SYMPTOMS AND PROVIDE FIRST AID – Rest in shaded and cool place and drink non-caffeinated fluids. Monitor for improvement of symptoms and seek emergency care if symptoms worsen. Do not return to work in heat until symptoms are relieved.

Heat Stroke – FOLLOW ESTABLISHED EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN – Call 911 immediately, soak victim’s clothing with cool water, move victim to shaded and cool area, fan victim to increase cooling of their body.
