Dear Alumnae and Friends, Happiness is found within the journey, not the destination. I am proud to lead a community that makes the journey possible for so many young women and actively builds a path that leads to their positive transformation. Similar to the young women at Notre Dame, we have experienced and embraced a season of evolving charism as we remain faithful to our Foundress and mission. We also carry the spirit of what it means to be a modern-day “ND Rebel” into the future. Blessed Theresa, our Foundress, was the definition of a Notre Dame Rebel. Her unwavering faith in God, trust in herself, and pure grit allowed her to establish a ministry that has shaped countless lives to this day. The women of ND have become trailblazers, advocates for change, and professionals who bring new perspectives into industries where female voices have historically been absent. I invite you to look closely at the impressive women in this edition of the Alumnae Spotlight, along with the collective success of our students. This is Notre Dame, and we are part of the next generation of ND Rebels in the modern world. The journey continues in the fall, and for some, it is just beginning. I am eager to meet the Class of 2025 and share the spirit and evolving charism with our newest ND Rebels. I pray they feel how much they are supported from day one, and I hope they understand there is a forever united community waiting for them after graduation. I was blown away by the unity and ND spirit we saw last semester. Between Legacy Week, our road to the soccer final four, crowning our FF Favorite, and the first annual Girls Schools Unite, to name a few, I have never been prouder to be a REBEL.

S CH OO L N EW S C ATH O L I C S CHOOLS WEEK In January, our students celebrated Catholic Schools Week by collecting various items needed by ThriVe St. Louis, an organization that provides women's health resources. The donation drive was organized by STUCO and Campus Ministry.

W ELCO ME CL ASS OF 2025 In February, we welcomed Notre Dame High School’s Class of 2025. They received their acceptance letters along with a yard sign and an ND goodie box. We can’t wait for their high school journey to start here!

FALL FEST IVA L: SP RING E DIT ION With numbers on the rise, our annual Fall Festival — like many other events last year — did not take place in October. Notre Dame did not want our students to miss out on such a beloved tradition. Raffle ticket tallies were kept secret until the spring when we were finally able to hold Fall Festival Coronation! Students dusted off their class colored shirts and cheered for their class favorite. Per tradition, the seniors won the crown!

S CH OO L N EW S LEGACY WEEK The first week of March kicked off our second annual Legacy Week. We invited alumnae to celebrate their connection and pride with daily themes like Testimonial Tuesday and favorite, I Heart ND Day. Congratulations to the Class of 2022 who received their class rings that week!

WOMEN LEGISL ATORS AWARD Congratulations to Hanna Lenz '21 who received the Women Legislators of Missouri scholarship. She was one of 16 recipients in all of Missouri. She was recognized by the Missouri House of Representatives in April.

SP RING P L AY & CONCERT In April, our talented cast and crew performed the suspenseful yet hilarious play, The Crimson House Murder. In May, over half the student body participated in the annual Spring Art Show & Concert. Both productions were able to host in-person crowds again, although limited.

VAR S I T Y S O CCER ' S RU N FO R STATE Our Varsity Soccer Team made an exciting run for state this year. This was the first year the team competed in the Class 3 Division. After a spectacular 21-8 record, they went on to win the Class 3 District 3 championship title. They secured wins against Clayton and Windsor to compete in the final four game. They left everything on the field and ended their season 4th in Class 3 State. We cannot wait to see what next season will bring!

SCHOL AR ATHLETE Abby Youngblood ‘21 was awarded the St. Louis Post Dispatch Scholar Athlete. Abby played four years of basketball, varsity golf and varsity soccer while maintaining a stellar 4.132 GPA! Next year, she will play soccer at the collegiate level for Southwest Baptist University.

ARCHBISHOP MAY AWARD Congratulations to Anna Rose Diel ‘21 who received the Archbishop May Service Award in April. The award recognizes the outstanding leadership and community service of students who demonstrate to their schools and communities that they are Alive in Christ!

AN ND TRADITION RENEWED We celebrated Notre Dame High School's 86th graduating class on Sunday, May 23, 2021. With social distancing guidelines in place at the time of last year's graduation, ND decided that the ceremony would be held on campus again for the first time in over 20 years. Many alumnae and current families applauded the change, and their feedback ultimately led to our decision to move commencement back to Notre Dame indefinitely! The Class of 2021 processed onto the soccer field and sat together in front of their families, who had assigned tables. Speeches were given by alumna Caitlin Murphy, as well as the Salutatorian and Valedictorian. Diplomas were then awarded to the 64 graduates, 100% of whom will begin post-secondary education in the fall. After turning their tassels, we wished the graduates a final farewell with confetti & fireworks.

CAITLIN COBURN MURPHY '05 Commencement Address Caitlin exemplifies the Notre Dame High School mission in a modern world. After ND, she received a BSBA dual degree in International Business with a focus in Mandarin at the University of Missouri Columbia. In 2007, she attended Peking University in Beijing and completed an intensive foreign language program that sparked her passion for business and language arts — which inevitably led her back to Beijing in 2009. In 2010, after launching her career in international business overseas, she was called to reflect on her life and ultimately allowed faith to guide her path back home to St. Louis. In 2017, she set out to provide superior shipping solutions and founded Global Gateway Logistics, a freight forwarding firm providing ocean, air and ground transportation for a variety of commodities. Her company’s mission is to create opportunities specifically for women in logistics. Caitlin married Evan in 2011, and they are members of St. Clement Parish along with their son and daughter. She is a trailblazer and an expert in international business logistics. Her faith and core values that were nurtured at ND have given her the strength and courage to pursue her life passions while empowering other women along the way.

CHLOE COUSIN Salutatorian Address Chloe took rigorous college prep courses while at Notre Dame and consistently received Summa Cum Laude recognition on the Honor Roll all four years. She was a recipient of the NDHS Advanced College Credit Certificate and the George Washington Carver Certificate. Chloe served as an academic coach, Notre Dame High School Ambassador and Secretary for National Honor Society and Student Council. She was selected to attend the United Nations 63 rd Commission on the Status of Women. Chloe has received numerous honors, including 2 nd place on the National Spanish Exam and induction into National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Athletically, she has participated in lacrosse and tennis. Additionally, she has made significant contributions to our school as a dancer over the last four years. Chloe will be attending Saint Louis University. She is receiving the following scholarships: Elks National Foundation Legacy Award, Vince Jacknewitz Scholarship, SLU Vice President Tuition Scholarship, SLU Catholic High School Award, Presidential Finalist Tuition Scholarship, SLU Grant and SLU Jesuit Community Award.

ANNA ROSE DIEL Valedictorian Address Anna Rose took rigorous college prep courses while at Notre Dame and earned Summa Cum Laude Honor Roll every semester. She was a recipient of the NDHS Advanced College Credit Certificate and the George Washington Carver Certificate. She served as an academic coach, Notre Dame High School Ambassador, Student Council Treasurer and Science Club President. She was selected as a sophomore to attend the Missouri Leadership Seminar. She was a member of the National Honor Society, an award recipient of the National Spanish Exam, the 1st place awardee for ND in the St. Louis Archdiocese Annual Catholic Appeal Essay Contest and ND’s 2021 Archbishop May Service Award recipient. Athletically, Anna Rose was involved in the tennis, track and swim programs. She contributed to the theatre program by performing in both our fall plays and spring musicals over the last six years. She will be attending Central Methodist University. Anna Rose is receiving the following scholarships: Elks Student of the Year, Crestwood Elks Lodge Most Valuable Student Competition Winner and Central Methodist University’s University Scholarship.

A YEAR LIKE NO OTHER...

A Reflection by Class of 2021 Graduate, Samantha Ramay I didn’t expect to start my senior year of high school in my basement. As a global pandemic suddenly crept from news headlines to our everyday lives in early 2020, none of us at the time could have expected that we would still be navigating its devastating effects over a year later. When Notre Dame switched to a completely virtual format at the end of my junior year, I thought the weirdness and unpredictability would end there. Boy, were we all in for a ride. When the 2020-2021 school year rolled around, the pandemic still raging outside, Notre Dame approached it in a very Notre Dame way: confidently, intelligently, and with flexibility and understanding. From day one, with oodles of precautions in place, the doors were open for in-person learning. While I’m still thankful and amazed that this past school year was completely in-person, the majority of my first semester was not. My family opted for a virtual option out of extra precaution. So, my first day as a senior started at home. Tackling the 2020 semester of my senior year was easily the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I’m the type of person who searches for silver linings with a magnifying glass, but there were many days when getting out of bed was daunting. However, I don’t regret any of it. I don’t regret giving my family and myself a little extra peace of mind in a very scary time, nor do I regret gaining the confidence I got from advocating for myself and other virtual students when ND seemed really far away. Plus, all of the hurdles I had to jump over made my last semester all the better. Two things stuck out to me when I came back in person: it was LOUD, and it was BRIGHT. Coming back cold turkey after having a space heater and a stapler for classmates for a few months was a shock. Yet, even with the masks and imposingly large bottles of hand sanitizer looming everywhere, to regain a piece of the “old normal” felt like coming up for a breath of air. Falling back into an in-person routine was like re-watching your favorite movie: achingly familiar, but you find something new every time. Enjoying the little moments that I took for granted, like eating lunch with my friends or saying hello to a teacher walking to class, was so special. Even sitting in the front row of Calculus seemed a bit luxurious in the beginning. It all reminded me of the things I fell in love with my freshman year: the camaraderie, the energy, and the environment that roots for you even when you don’t root for yourself. Being in-person also reconnected me with my class. The Notre Dame Class of 2021 is an incredible group of people. They’re funny, smart, and fiercely kind. These people have been the soul of my time at ND, and because of them, I’ve found friendship and family. Being with them again filled a well I didn’t even know was empty, every day until the last. The last day of classes will stick with me forever. It was a blur of belly laughing and blue paint-riddled chaos. At one point, Dr. Bohac crashed my religion class riding a scooter. Throughout the day, I tried to take in the mortar between the bricks, not really internalizing the finality of it all. It hit me during the last few mods when the seniors all gathered in Mrs. Godefroid’s room to hear the end of the day blessing one last time. Walking in the room to see my classmates, these people I have grown up with, every emotion in the book came crashing into me like a brick wall. Before the bell, we gathered in a circle and sang our school song one last time before dissolving into huddles of hugs and tears. Mrs. Godefroid got in the middle and was met with cheers after yelling, “They will MISS THIS!” I’ll certainly miss them. So yes, I didn’t expect to start my senior year of high school in my basement. But, I did get what I expected all along: good classes, good friends, and lots of happy and sad tears. While I never in my wildest dreams would have imagined a pandemic to be thrown in the mix, I’d like to think I took it in stride. I survived, and you’re a survivor too. We have all experienced the highest highs and lowest lows and have come out of it changed, but stronger. If that isn’t the epitome of what a senior year should be, I don’t know what is.

A New Journey for Mrs. Godefroid M A RY GO D E FR O ID '64 R ETIR ES F ROM TEACHING AFTER 33 Y EARS AT NOTR E DA ME

Since 1988, almost every Notre Dame High School graduate that has passed through these halls has been taught by the Mrs. Mary Godefroid '64, fondly referred to by most of her students as Mrs. G or Gode. At the end of the 2020-2021 school year, Mary retired from teaching. Notre Dame High School expresses our sincerest gratitude for everything she has done for our school and the many young women she has made a profound impact on. Happy retirement, Mrs. Godefroid!

Mary Godefroid has been part of the Notre Dame community since her days as a student. She graduated from ND in 1964 and planned to join the School Sisters of Notre Dame, but her vocation calling changed after meeting her husband. Mary taught at St. Peter's in Jefferson City and St. Michael's in Shrewsbury before staying home with her six children. In 1988, she began her teaching career at Notre Dame. Mary taught several religion courses over the years including, Life Choices and Death & Dying — ND alumnae favorites. Her favorite memories as a faculty member include Fall Festival Coronations, Baccalaureates, proms, retreats and pro-life trips to D.C. Mary also enjoyed watching her daughters, niece and granddaughter experience ND. She will never forget the last mod of her last day of teaching either — all the seniors ended up in her room to listen to the end of the day blessing one last time. They laughed, cried and sang the school song together. Mary said, "It was the perfect ending."

"I am going to miss spending every day with teenage girls. They kept me feeling young and were always teaching me new things! Of course, I will miss the faculty and staff, many of whom I taught years before. I spent half my life on that campus; I am going to miss feeling a part of the life and energy and faith at Notre Dame. As for my plans now, I am just waiting to see what God has in mind. He will let me know the next move to make. Change is hard but it keeps us growing!"

Confetti of Cards & Well Wishes In May, we celebrated Mary and her dedication to ND. We presented her with a "confetti of cards" from past and current students. A post on our social media honoring Mary garnered hundreds of likes and comments — all wishing Mrs. G congratulations and many sharing favorite memories from her classes. Notre Dame alumnae attendees included Molly Bruder '12, Sam Goodman '11 and Jena Preiss '11. 08 Clare Mattione '14 graduated with a law degree from Texas A&M University School of Law in April 2021. She joined Dorothy Butler Law Firm in Texas as their newest associate with a focus on family law. 09 Emma Garner Hanger '17 graduated with a degree in Athletic Training from Southwest Baptist University in May 2021. She will work on obtaining her doctorate in Physical Therapy at SBU over the next three years. She married Cory Hanger in May 2021 also. Bridesmaids included Alyssa Lato '17, Mary Beers '17, Bridget Turney '17 and Julia Roach '17.

RE UNION NIGHT We were disappointed that due to social gathering restrictions we were not able to welcome alumnae celebrating their reunion back on campus for our traditional festivities this year. However, we realized now more than ever the importance and value of our connections to one another. So in true pandemic fashion, NDHS hosted a virtual reunion happy hour for the classes ending in '1' and '6'. Our second annual Legacy Week ended on March 6 with several classes gathering via Zoom to reunite and reminisce together. Attendees were encouraged to wear their ND blue, turn up a class year themed playlist and sip on blue drinks! Notre Dame themed Zoom backgrounds were created and a Reunion Box with additional ND flare was available for purchase. A huge thank you to everyone that participated! Classes ending in '2' and '7' are up next...plan to join us in person on Saturday, March 5, 2022! ND graduates from the Class of 1960 or prior should save the date for our rescheduled Continuous Open Reunion on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. A Social Media Ambassador for ND has a passion for the organization and a readiness to shine a light on Notre Dame High School within their own online profiles and followers. A Social Media Ambassador will help tell the story of Notre Dame — past and present — and have a willingness to share pieces of their own ND story when necessary. A Social Media Ambassador will be expected to share at least one ND post every two weeks and post provided content on specific high traffic occasions i.e. Giving Tuesday and I Heart ND Day. What led you to choose your career path? Anything that specifically relates to your time at ND? During my junior year, Sister Celine took our chemistry class on a field trip to a special event held at the Science Center, where I was able to meet one-on-one with research scientists and ask them questions about their careers. From that very moment, I knew that I wanted to enter the biomedical research field, which would allow me to use all of my skills to generate, evaluate and disseminate scientific knowledge. What does being a woman in STEAM mean to you? Being a woman in STEAM is simultaneously challenging and rewarding. On some days, I feel like a trailblazer; on other days, I feel like an underdog. However, I was very blessed that my formative years were spent at ND, where I was able to learn how to confidently speak up, ask questions and share my ideas. I am also happy to be working alongside so many other strong females, who inspire me to keep searching for new ways to answer complex scientific questions. Did your time/experience at ND influence your life path or character/values at all, specifically, confidence and self-advocacy? Notre Dame provided an incredible safety net where my classmates and I were all able to ask questions, learn and gain experiences without fear or embarrassment. The faculty and staff were always there to give extra help and guidance, and the college-like scheduling of class times allowed us to meet individually or in groups with our teachers to review tough concepts and enter into deeper discussions about the material. Plus, ND taught me how to efficiently organize and manage my time, and time management is an essential, make-or-break skill in college, grad school and the lab. What advice would you give other women who are thinking about pursuing a career in your industry? I would advise other women to always be inquisitive and curious. Read scientific articles. Speak with those in the field. Reach out to fellow ND alums. And, most importantly, I would advise other women to pursue a rigorous, well-rounded education, such as that provided by ND. Biomedical research is a multifaceted career; to be successful, one needs a variety of skills, including oral and written communication, time management, teamwork, and of course, a strong background in the hard sciences. Success will come more naturally if these skills are mastered early on.

What does being a woman in STEAM mean to you? I think women are innate problem solvers who can think outside of the box. I take great pride in being able to bring a unique perspective that perhaps has not been thought about before. It’s important that we’re listening to other people’s perspectives and empowering women to give theirs. What do other alumnae reading this need to know in order to empower other females and young girls to keep pursuing fields in STEAM? Make sure you’re keeping an open mind. You may start out thinking you want your career to go one way, but you can really bring technical expertise to any job. Although I work in Human Resources, I have been able to use all of the valuable technical skills I learned from college and I’ve been able to harness them to help build better processes using technology. For example, using my technical skills, I was able to code and build an online benefit enrollment system with linked EDI files so employees could enroll in benefits online and their elections flowed from our system to the carrier. This was a major improvement from the paper forms we had been using. What advice would you give other women who are thinking about pursuing a career in your industry? Do it. You are smart enough and the world of STEAM absolutely needs your voice and perspective. Any sort of foundation based in STEAM is transferable into any career you might choose. Most importantly, there will always be haters and there will always be people saying you don’t belong. Block out that noise and stay true to you. You do belong and you do deserve a seat at that table. Most impactful ND memory? Something you look back on and makes you smile, or you recognize influenced you in some way? It would be difficult to pick just one memory. I can say that I loved all the time I spent in the Student Council office laughing and joking with my friends. I also learned true leadership skills and how to interact with people from all backgrounds which has really served me well in my career. One of the things I learned from Ms. B was, “always be a woman of your word, because your word is all you have.” And I truly live my life that way. If I say I am going to do something, I am going to do it. If I say I am going to be somewhere, I am there. So I leave you with that. Make sure you’re always being a woman of your word. It has always served me and I am sure it will serve you.

What led you to choose your career path? Anything that specifically relates to your time at ND? My dad is an engineer, so he set up a meeting with two female colleagues. After talking with them, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in engineering too. Sister Celine was someone who definitely made science very enjoyable at ND! What does being a woman in STEAM mean to you? Being a woman in STEAM shows that you are comfortable and confident in yourself especially since women are the minority in the field. What is your dream job? Can you see any roadblocks or challenges which might be influenced by your gender? I honestly would love to open up a food truck! Being in a large corporation, I have a lot of options to take my career down different paths. I am currently a new leader — I make sure my voice is heard and work hard to prove to people that I can do this. What do other alumnae reading this need to know in order to empower other females and young girls to keep pursuing fields in STEAM? Give women the opportunity to engage! There are programs for females in high school that teach them about how cool STEAM careers are — I am a part of a lot of them. Did your time/experience at ND influence your life path or character/values at all, specifically, confidence and self-advocacy? I was super shy before starting high school. At ND, I had the opportunity to break out of my comfort zone. All of the girls there were great! And going to a small school made everyone super close. What advice would you give other women who are thinking about pursuing a career in your industry? Females do have to work a little harder since it is a male dominated industry. My advice would be to never give up if you are truly passionate about it. Be confident in yourself! Most impactful ND memory? Something you look back on and makes you smile, or you recognize influenced you in some way? There are so many — it is hard to pick one! Fall Festival was always a blast and Senior Lock-In was awesome. But I was definitely influenced by my trip to Japan with Sister Jan. That trip really opened my eyes to other cultures.

What led you to choose your career path? Anything that specifically relates to your time at ND? I’ve always had an interest in entertainment and the film industry. Growing up I used to make silly movies with friends and I enjoyed going to the movies as often as possible. ND helped me foster my creative interests further through art, dance and theater. What does being a woman in STEAM mean to you? Being a woman in STEAM means paving the way for women in the future. The animation industry is increasingly diversifying and more women are taking the reins in leadership roles. It is an exciting time to be a part of the industry! What do other alumnae reading this need to know in order to empower other females and young girls to keep pursuing fields in STEAM? No dream is unachievable! Women can do anything! I am thankful I have had an amazing support system in my family. I wouldn't be where I am today without them. Support your daughters’ dreams! Whether that’s a path in science, technology, engineering, art or math; it makes a difference when someone believes you. Did your time/experience at ND influence your life path or character/values at all, specifically, confidence and self-advocacy? Notre Dame helped me prepare to advocate for myself especially in terms of time management and asking for help if I need it. It helped me learn how to schedule my time and energy into getting things done under pressure. These are things that have stayed with me during my career. I would also say ND gave me the opportunity to explore all of my many interests from sports to art and everything in between. This gave me a well rounded background and many experiences that shaped who I am today. What advice would you give other women who are thinking about pursuing a career in your industry? Don’t give up! You will get a million “No’s" but there is going to be that one person that says “Yes!" You just have to keep believing and putting yourself out there. Most impactful ND memory? Something you look back on and makes you smile, or you recognize influenced you in some way? There are too many to choose from! I think a lot of the things that make ND great are the small moments in class or in the hallways that give you that sense of community. I am very thankful for my time at Notre Dame.

What does being a woman in STEAM mean to you? Being a woman in STEAM helps prove that women are just as capable as men in these fields. It sets an example for young girls that are looking to have a future in one of these fields. What is your dream job? Can you see any roadblocks or challenges which might be influenced by your gender? I am in my dream job! Working for the Fed in the capacity that I do has allowed me to work a considerable amount in Washington D.C. helping to provide financial data for policy makers to rely upon. I am definitely the minority gender in my field, but I have not experienced roadblocks or challenges directly related to my gender. What do other alumnae reading this need to know in order to empower other females and young girls to keep pursuing fields in STEAM? I encourage other alumnae to speak out to the younger generations about your career path, the challenges and benefits of working in one of these fields. Through these conversations young women will become empowered knowing that pursuing one of these fields is attainable. Did your time/experience at ND influence your life path or character/values at all, specifically, confidence and self-advocacy? Notre Dame did a great job of preparing me to ask questions and to challenge the status quo. I was taught leadership skills and wasn’t limited to primarily “female” leaning subjects. Notre Dame did not define us by our gender, but by our ability to excel in all that we put our minds to. What advice would you give other women who are thinking about pursuing a career in your industry? Go for it! Don’t give in to stereotypes, which are nothing more than opinions from misinformed individuals. What keeps you motivated every day? What is your personal “WHY”? My three boys are my personal “why”. I find it important to set the example for them of gender equality and to show them that if their mother can bake a loaf of homemade bread AND statistically analyze financial data for the Federal Reserve, so can ANY girl. Most impactful ND memory? Something you look back on and makes you smile, or you recognize influenced you in some way? When I think of my time at ND, I think of the lifelong friendships I gained, the independence and time management skills I learned and taking swimming class during PE in the no longer existent ND pool.

Notre Dame High School was PROUD to stand side by side with seven other local all-girls schools during the inaugural Girls Schools Unite Giving Challenge. This challenge was about uniting under the umbrella of female empowerment and standing together as WOMEN FIRST, not competitors, to recognize the value and impact our collective success has on the future of young women.

We are world changers and difference makers. We are empowered women from different backgrounds forever connected by our city, our faith, and the sisterhood of an all-girl education. We are Incarnate Word Academy, Nerinx Hall, Notre Dame High School, Rosati-Kain High School, St. Joseph’s Academy, Ursuline Academy, Villa-Duchesne, and Visitation Academy. And we are united in our efforts to provide all-girl, Catholic education to generations of St. Louisans to come.

A sincere THANK YOU to our alumnae. We were in awe of the outpouring of unity and support from our community this past June. Raising $20k over the span of four days and ranking 4 th in the overall percentage of alumnae giving — it is clear we stand for HER united, and it feels great to be a Rebel!
