Client brief: Wilson Pateras organized a meeting to discuss a prospective site for their new office. They have recently merged with other smaller accounting firms so they needed a bigger space. The spatial planning of the office is centered on neighbourhoods, comprising of office principals and managers that govern their team of accountants. According to the office hierarchy, every level of employees were appropriately allocated workspaces and privacy. It was important to bring the whole team together through creating gathering spaces that were informal, such as the collaboration and breakout areas.

Concept: The executives at Wilson Pateras were keen to maintain a formal and professional setting where their clients from all ages would feel calm and secure as they arrive into the office. The concept was inspired from the surroundings of the site, primarily the Yarra river lined with evergreen deciduous trees through all seasons.

Client brief: The leasing agents for 380 Latrobe Street approached Hot Black to design two speculation suites on levels 11 and 12. The existing layout comprised of workstations tightly organized into the space with little circulation pathways. The brief was to challenge the traditional workstation layout and to create a more flexible office space that would attract prospective tenants.

Concept: In order to curate a more flexible workspace and create a distinction between the two levels, we prioritized the use of colours and form. On Level 11, we incorporated organic shapes throughout the space, creating a natural flow from the collaboration spaces to the workstation area. While it was important to keep the palette neutral throughout to attract prospective tenants, we carefully experimented with different ceiling and floor treatments to create focal points on Level 12.
