Provavelmente, as duas coisas acontecerão. Não quero estar contra esse movimento. Ao contrário, me interessa compreender o nosso lugar dentro dele. Boa leitura!

“WE SHAPE OUR TOOLS AND THEREAFTER THEY SHAPE US.” John M. Culkin, 1967, reflecting on the ideas of Marshall McLuhan
We are living through a moment where what we once considered uniquely human is increasingly being shared with technology. Machines can already write, calculate, draw, learn, and create at a pace that is forcing us to reconsider long-held assumptions. Some see in this horizon an extraordinary expansion of human capabilities; others warn us of what we might lose along the way. Most likely, both things will happen. I do not want to stand against this movement. On the contrary, I want to understand our place within it. The further technology advances in one direction, the more we feel the need to delve deeper into what lies at the other end of the pendulum: time, matter, the senses, imperfection, and above all, ourselves: human beings. Not as opposing forces, but as necessary parts of a new equilibrium. Through this lens, we continue to think about design, spaces, and experience. We believe in beauty as a value. In the right proportion, in purposeful function, and in the things that move us. We believe in the hands that shape wood, stone, and metal; in the knowledge passed down from one person to another; and in the dedication of those who spend hours, sometimes days, refining a detail that may never be noticed on its own, yet will be felt as part of the whole. It is precisely the sum of these almost imperceptible things that transforms raw material into experience and experience into memory. We create furniture, lighting, objects, spaces, and experiences with the ambition that they will stand the test of time. Some of our collections make this particularly clear: the form may be preserved, the design remains precise, but the nature of the material’s structure and human craftsmanship ensure the uniqueness of each piece. No two stones are alike. No two handcrafted surfaces bear exactly the same marks. The form endures, but each piece tells a story of its own. This same intention guides the way we think about spaces. It is present in our stores, but is not limited to them. It also shapes our architectural and interior design projects, where layers, proportion, and light come together to create a sensory experience. Places designed not only to serve a purpose, but to foster moments of connection, discovery, belonging, and memory; reconciling what we have learned in the past, who we are in the present, and our curiosity about what we might yet become. Our presence beyond borders is nothing new. For many years, our products have traveled across borders, while our participation in international trade shows and events has allowed us to build relationships with different cultures and communities. New York, Washington, D.C. (Bethesda), and, soon, Miami mark a new chapter in this journey: not merely the presence of our design in other places, but the creation of spaces of our own where our culture, our way of working, and our approach to architecture, design, and experience can be fully appreciated. These are spaces that embody our DNA while also opening it up to dialogue with different cultures and ways of life. It is a journey that continues to unfold, connecting us with new communities and revealing new possibilities for how our ideas can take shape. In a world that moves ever faster, perhaps our role is also to protect what requires time. We will continue moving forward, incorporating new tools, new ideas, and new possibilities. But looking inward with the same care and attention with which we look toward the future. Because we believe that creativity, excellence, community, and permanence do not belong to the past. Perhaps they are precisely what we will need most in the future. Enjoy the read!

A CULTURA DO FAZER THE CULTURE OF MAKING
10
The word community can take many forms. For us, perhaps it can only be truly understood alongside another word: culture. Because each sustains the other. Culture is not just what a society produces as a form of expression. It is also what it learns, preserves, transmits, and refines over time. And community is the human environment that makes this continuity possible.
11 THE SURROUNDINGS OF OUR FACTORY
Our products are born in southern Brazil, in the western region of Santa Catarina, an area shaped by successive waves of settlement and by communities of diverse origins. Among them are descendants of European Immigrants who,, over generations, have brought with them knowledge, traditions, and a very particular relationship with work and craftsmanship. We’re not interested in romanticizing this story. What matters to us is understanding what has endured from it. In a region built with limited resources, knowledge and labor became part of the cultural heritage. Building a house, cultivating the land, working with wood, producing food, making objects, or mastering a trade were never separate from life itself. They were ways of shaping their own stories. Perhaps this helps explain why southern Brazil has, over time, developed such robust manufacturing ecosystems. Furniture, textiles, ceramics, footwear, food, and so many other industries found there not only resources and production capacity, but also a culture of craftsmanship.

There are places in the world where certain forms of knowledge seem rooted in the land itself. We think of the Swiss valleys where generations have devoted themselves to watchmaking; of the Italian regions where, over centuries, small communities have developed extraordinary skill in working with leather, wood, stone, glass, and metal; and of so many other places where a craft extends beyond any one individual to become a shared body of knowledge. Perhaps this is how true savoir-faire takes shape. Not simply through the ability to do something well, but through a community that observes, learns, practices, questions, and passes on what it knows, continually refining it. This is how we see the communities around our factories.

16
Some people have worked with us for decades. In some cases, one generation began a journey that the next carried forward. Parents, children, and sometimes grandchildren have worked in the same production environment. Not because their opportunities were limited to the factory, but because the knowledge and skills developed there became a source of pride, identity, and continuity. At the same time, work makes it possible for people to build their lives around it.

A CULTURA DO FAZER / THE CULTURE OF MAKING
Casas são construídas. Famílias se desenvolvem. Novas possibilidades aparecem. O repertório profissional se amplia. A economia local circula. Homes are built. Families grow. New opportunities arise. Professional repertoire expands. The local economy circulates. Small businesses thrive, and what begins inside a factory reverberates far beyond its boundaries. An ecosystem takes shape.
19
20
A CULTURA DO FAZER / THE CULTURE OF MAKING
THE MOCKUP WORKSHOP
The company depends on the community, just as the community is strenghtened by the activities that thrive within the industry. Knowledge generates work; work generates autonomy; autonomy generates dignity; dignity enables us to build a future. And the future allows learning to continue. This circularity is perhaps one of the most profound forms of sustainability. Not only the sustainability of resources but also that of knowledge, relationships, and the community itself.
21
That is why, when we talk about a product’s origin, we are not simply talking about where it was manufactured. We are talking about the culture in which it was made. An object is not merely the result of materials, design, and industrial processes. It is also a consequence of the people who made it, the knowledge they have accumulated, the conditions under which they work, and the relationship they establish with what they produce.

Hands are never completely neutral. They carry memory, experience, precision, pride, and intention. And somehow, all of that remains in the object. Perhaps we could call this energy. Not necessarily as something that needs to be explained or measured, but as what we inevitably emanate when we do something with mindfulness, wisdom, and purpose.

The wood that passes through our factories encounters more than just machines. It encounters people. People who understand its resilience, its behavior, its imperfections. People who know when to push it and when to respect its limits. People who, through thousands of repetitions, have developed a kind of intelligence that could hardly be captured in a manual.

31 WHERE WOOD TAKES SHAPE
32
A CULTURA DO FAZER / THE CULTURE OF MAKING
It is in this convergence of craftsmanship, knowledge, and humanity that our products begin to acquire meaning. When one of them leaves the factory and moves into a home in São Paulo, New York, Milan, or anywhere else in the world, it takes with it something that doesn’t appear on a technical specification sheet. It carries a small part of the place it came from. It carries accumulated knowledge. It carries continuity. It carries the work of a community that found in its craft not only a way to produce objects, but a way to build their own lives.

When does an object cease to be merely an object? One might conclude that it happens in the moment the unsassuming product takes on a poetic quality beyond simply fulfilling its practical functions. That is when art and design prove to be inseparable in both concept and expression.
43
Permanece. The perception of poetry, however, is a subjective experience, an individual act. It is not embedded in the piece, revealed through its materiality, or made evident by its forms. It is intuitively felt: through the attentive eye, the sensitive touch, and the emotion it evokes. At that moment, the object embodies thought, time, technique, memory, and recognition, and overflows within itself. It remains.

The softness of the lines, the balance of proportions, the aesthetic refinement, the technical precision, the careful selection of raw materials and finishes, and the uniqueness of the composition are attributes that confer identity and bring out the poetry that evokes sensation and invites appreciation. At JADERALMEIDA®, authenticity is one of the pillars that underpin the creative process and guide every stage of production toward creating objects that transcend their primary functions and evoke the senses. The natural order is to preserve conceptual coherence in pursuit of relevance, while continually retracing the path that has made the design recognizable.

The coherence of form that gives each object its value comes from a design process that never considers a piece in isolation. The portfolio of more than 1,200 pieces provides a foundation for new designs, which evolve through layering, refinement, and distillation. This approach maintains a consistent design language, allowing each object to take its place within the JADERALMEIDA® design vocabulary as a point of reference and part of an enduring legacy.

As a guiding principle, subtracting the superfluous from design reveals the power of what is essential, and of what emptiness itself can express, leaving room for multiple interpretations. “Certain products are like ellipses in a text: they continue a line of thought”, says Jader Almeida.

A experiência do espaço eterniza momentos.

HABITAR OS SENTIDOS / INHABITING THE SENSES
The universe that unfolds invites reflection on how we live, work, and come together, beyond the products on display. A table becomes a place for gathering and a setting for creation, while an armchair becomes an invitation to rest and contemplate. The whole takes precedence over the individual piece. The seamless flow between spaces evokes a sense of comfort. Immersive music, a carefully considered temperature, and a subtle fragrance create a feeling of warmth and welcome. The experience of the space turns moments into lasting memories.

JADERALMEIDA® spaces go beyond the realm of mere exhibition. Each location begins with an understanding of the place where it is situated, its architecture, surroundings, codes, and unique characteristics, and then establishes a dialogue between the brand’s identity and the reality that hosts it. This approach guides the design of our showrooms across Brazil’s urban centers and, more recently, in New York and Washington, D.C. Each project responds to its own context while preserving a set of recognizable principles. Our identity lies not in repeating forms, but in a consistent way of thinking.
87
Architecture, furniture, art, and nature form their own relationships in each setting, while certain principles carry across all spaces. The brand adapts to each place without losing its essence; its expression evolves, while its identity remains. This continuity is also evident in hospitality. The human element begins with the smallest details: the care given to the setting, the way visitors are welcomed, and how the space is introduced and experienced. These seemingly simple rituals can convey values that architecture alone cannot express. The space showcases the brand; the way it is experienced reveals its culture.

A If function can be resolved through reason, what gives an object or a space meaning for those who live with it? J We are the only living beings that shape our surroundings to suit us, rather than simply adapting to them. There is a human need to give things meaning, to create symbols and points of reference that go beyond basic function. An object can meet a need perfectly and still fail to create a connection. What interests me is precisely that other layer. When form, proportion, and setting come together coherently, an object is no longer perceived solely in terms of what it does; it begins to speak through what it represents. It is at this threshold, between the tangible and the intangible, that design finds its fullest expression.

A Proportion, balance, and lightness are defining qualities of your work. What kind of research or technical expertise lies behind this apparent simplicity? How closely is engineering involved in the design process? J Balance and lightness are a constant pursuit for me. There is a very clear intention to create pieces that complement a space without obstructing it, establishing a sense of harmony with their surroundings. And when I speak of lightness, I don’t necessarily mean something delicate or subtle. A strong tension between mass and lightness runs through the JADERALMEIDA® design language. Some pieces are exceptionally slender, while others have a more substantial presence, a greater concentration of material. Even in those, however, there is a pursuit of proportion, visual balance, and a relationship between solid and void that allows the overall composition to retain a sense of lightness. This tension between what carries weight and what seems almost to disappear is an essential part of our identity. On a technical level, however, that apparent simplicity reveals tremendous complexity. For me, design and engineering are inseparable. Without technical expertise, it is difficult to achieve a truly successful design; without engineering, certain ideas simply cannot hold. The process draws on an understanding of materials, physics, structures, and manufacturing, as well as testing, prototyping, and often a willingness to push the limits of what is possible. Sometimes we seek a thinner profile, a wider span, or a structure that seems visually improbable. That is where design intent and engineering must work together to find a solution. I also like to think of ethics and aesthetics as two sides of the same coin: ethics as the underlying substance and internal coherence, and aesthetics as their visible expression. One should not exist without the other. Ultimately, design is this convergence of disciplines. And perhaps that is one of the greatest paradoxes of our work: when something looks truly simple, it is because all the complexity required to make it possible has been successfully resolved.

A If people perceive a space through the lens of their own experiences, how do you create a design language that can be understood across vastly different cultures and contexts without becoming generic? J Universality should not be confused with neutrality. When you try to eliminate every distinctive quality to reach a wider audience, you usually also remove what gives the work depth. I believe in the opposite approach: the more coherent the thinking, the less it depends on superficial cues to be understood. Proportion, ergonomics, light, and craftsmanship speak to something fundamental in human perception. Context changes and must be understood, but the principles need not be abandoned. Adapting does not mean losing your identity. It is possible to belong in different places while remaining connected to your origins.

As this way of thinking reaches new places, it takes on new dimensions. It moves beyond the object to inhabit the space, where architecture and art become part of a shared view of the world. In the brand’s spaces, identity emerges through the coherence between intention and execution rather than a signature style, through what precedes form and endures beyond it.
113
JADERALMEIDA®’ physical presence in major cultural and creative hubs broadens this dialogue and establishes lasting roots. Its spaces become gathering places where ideas take tangible form. Objects enter into a dialogue with architecture, and the brand’s culture connects with that of each city.

Through these encounters with new contexts, expansion becomes a cultural process. Each new place brings fresh perspectives, sparks new connections, and introduces this design language to different ways of living, working, coming together, and experiencing the world. There is exchange, not imposition. Design reaches across borders because it finds common ground, allowing the idea to resonate without the need for translation.

How does an outside perspective add new layers to what you create? When an object begins to coexist with different forms of architecture, habits, and ways of life, unpredictable interpretations emerge and require understanding. This coexistence does not mean rethinking our ideas; rather, it means validating our perceptions and recognizing the new relationships that have been established.

New York is a city with global reach. Few places reveal so vividly how differences coexist naturally. Languages, backgrounds, eras, architectural styles, and ways of life overlap continuously, creating a cultural landscape that evolves without ever losing its intensity. It was here that JADERALMEIDA® opened its first dedicated showroom in the United States. In Tribeca, among historic buildings, former industrial lofts, galleries, residences, and creative studios, the brand finds a setting that reflects key principles of its design language: an appreciation for existing architecture, understated elegance, and a natural connection between art, design, and everyday life.

The showroom enters into a dialogue with its surroundings without imitating them. The space retains the qualities that make JADERALMEIDA® recognizable while responding to the scale, rhythm, and culture of the city it now calls home. New York also brings a broader range of perspectives to this exchange. Architects, designers, collectors, and visitors from around the world step into the same space, each viewing the objects through the lens of their own experiences. It is at this intersection that an international presence takes on its most compelling meaning: a single design language seen through many different eyes.

As we understand the relationships formed in new contexts, the challenge is to distinguish circumstance from essence. The way something is expressed can change without altering what defines it at its core. Adaptation requires discernment. Perhaps maturity lies in this ability to evolve while maintaining coherence, to remain recognizable even as the surroundings change. Cultural identity is not conveyed through overt symbols; it is deeply embedded in the work, reflecting a particular way of understanding the world. It is on this level, too, that different cultures can see themselves reflected in the same object.

This convergence of cultures and perspectives rests on an essential commitment: timelessness. Design that crosses borders resists fleeting trends and short-lived solutions. Rather than following the pace of fashion, the creative process is guided by an ongoing pursuit of lasting relevance, grounded in a question that informs every decision: fifty years from now, will this be even better than it is today? Chosen to age gracefully and develop a patina over time, the materials in each piece allow the object to accumulate value and history, becoming something to be passed down through generations. Timelessness goes beyond an aesthetic intention to embody JADERALMEIDA®’s commitment to respect and transparency toward those who welcome its creations into their everyday lives.

A escala muda. As relações se ampliam. A cultura segue em movimento. What JADERALMEIDA® is building extends beyond its pieces, its spaces, and the places where it establishes a presence. A way of thinking connects these dimensions, a dialogue unfolds among people, and action gives it tangible form. This triad of thought, dialogue, and action draws on accumulated knowledge, finds expression in materials, gains precision through design, and becomes complete through people’s lived experience of what is created. As new horizons open, we encounter different contexts, perspectives, and ways of living. The scale shifts. Connections expand. Culture remains in motion.

For the brand, expansion means establishing a presence. Building connections. Engaging with different realities while staying true to the foundations of its identity. Perhaps this is precisely what the future calls for: moving forward without losing depth; embracing new possibilities while preserving the knowledge built over time; evolving without breaking the thread of continuity. What JADERALMEIDA® creates today will also help shape what comes next. This is how the brand intends to move forward: attuned to its time, open to the world, and committed to what deserves to endure.
