storm-maker for solo piano
Jake Sandridge
storm-maker (2017) Storm-maker, for solo piano, was completed in 2017 as a sequel to my chamber work Storm-maker /dream-maker. The solo work expands upon the piano cadenza in the middle of the earlier chamber work, creating an etude out of the ‘stormy’ bit of that material. Storm-maker is an etude in rhythm—the same motive is performed at two different tempi at once for a large portion of the piece. Performance note: The performer should take special care to observe the relationships between the tempi of any two adjacent sections. Because of the frequent metric modulation, what appears to be a sudden tempo change on the page will not sound sudden to the ear.
