“ e Knot” is a hypothetical transit station located in Gary, Indiana. is community center would replace the existing South Shore Line giving the people of Gary and the surrounding population quick and direct access to Chicago, as well as every major city along the rust belt.
e design celebrates modern transportation by immersing users within an ever changing setting as cars, buses, and trains rush by. is varying setting paired with open, unprogrammed space will allow the people of Gary to transform their new transit hub into a space that ts them best.
e “Kinetic Cinema” is a center for lm located in Muncie, Indiana. e proposal challenges the idea of building envelope through a wood framing system that uses only the materials necessary. Within the sca olding lies a complicated kinetic system that acts as an all encompassing, visual, cinema experience.
e kinetic system uses pistons to push and pull a mesh fabric to situate viewers within an interactive 360 degree movie scene. e envelope of the theater would move and react to the movie to create a viewing experience that was more than just a visual and audible experience.
