This book is a short documentary about my dads parents/my grandparents lives and what they do. And their family they had in thier younger years.

Table of Contents

This project is about my grandparents on my dads side of my family. It is about thier lives, what they own for businesses, what they do, what they mean to me, & what they do for me and my family. I created this whole book myself in Adobe InDesign. This project is about my grandparents lives and who they had for kids and how many kids they had. It also talks about me working with my grandparents and what I do for work with them.

This is a photo of my grandfather.

He is also the father of my dad.

Also known as my dads dad. My grandfather is in his 70’s and he was born in the month of February. He is very smart when it comes to work and business. I work with my grandfather just about every summer. I have been working with him every summer for the past 4 years. When I am working with my Grandfather he is smart when it comes to work because he is always thinking of ways for me to “work smarter, not harder”. He finds an easier way for me to get the job done. I usually do all the tasks that he assigns me since hes a lot older and can’t move around as well as I can.

All about my Grandfather

This photo might be a little blurry but this is a photo similar to the previous one, but this was at Christmas time just last year.

And same with the previous photo, they both were taken at Christmas time last year but at different moments. In this particular photo my grandfather got a safe. That is my dads hand in the left had corner of the pic, he is trying to help my grandfather set up the safe with him. Its a finger print scanning safe where it only opens up to your particular finger print.

This photo is from a photo shoot that a professional photographer took a couple summers ago. The photographers name was Jay Kennedy. He took several photos of our whole family a couple summers ago.

But I really love my grandparents.

They have been together for over 50+ years. They mean so much to me. Because they have alway been there for me. They have been there for birthdays, Christmas and my high school graduation.

Point is they’ve been there for me countless times.

And in return I’ve done a lot for them.

A Brief Summary About My Granparents Lives

What I Do With My Grandfather

I started working with my grandparents at about age 15. When I had my learners permit my grandfather always came over to our place to pick me up. Since I’ve been working for my grandparents I’ve been doing a lot of things for them too. So in a way I’ve been there for them and they’ve been there for me.

I help them out around their home, their businesses that they own and maintain and just helping them out in life in general.

I do all kinds of work with my grandfather. Like I said I do most of the work but he does help me the best that he can along the way. We do handy-man jobs like anything literally. Anything from hard labor of digging ditches, holes and stacking wood to easier tasks of watering plants and picking weeds. And everything in between.

I mow his fields with a brush hog that is a separate attachment for the back of his tractor.

I even do some cleaning for him.

I clean his house, his vehicles, and business place he owns. This is a pic of the inside of his garage. I work with my grandfather mostly, my grandmother is usually busy doing office work.

Christmas

When it comes time for birthdays or Christmas my grandparents always give me everything I ask for and more. They do so much for me and have always been there for me because they love me and I love them. I help them out every now and again when I have time. Whenever we do Christmas its usually at my grandparents house. Because for some reason thats only place where the whole family gathers.

This is a photo of mostly my dads side of the family.

You already know who my grandparents are. When my grandparents were younger they had four kids. In this pic those four kids are: my dad, Danielle (My aunt), Mark (My uncle), & Phil (My uncle).

So the six of them was how the family started out. Then obviously each of my grandparents 4 kids went out in the world and found a wife or husband. My uncle Phil is the oldest of the 4 kids, then my dad, then Danielle, and then Uncle Mark is the youngest of the 4.

Next my dad found a woman and that is my mom. And their two kids are me and my sister Darienn. That group of 4 is another family. And Danielle found a man and that is my Uncle Matt.

And their kid they had together is my cousin Lillian, that is a family of 3. Next my Uncle Mark found a woman and they had my cousin Gavin. Thats another family of 3.

Lastly is my Uncle Phil and Aunt Liz they had four kids as well. Those four kids are: Connor, Paige, Jenna & Alexis. All four of Phil’s kids are my cousins as well.

Thats another family of 6. And thats just my family on my dads side. 18 people total in this photo.

And to think all 16 (Excluding my two grandparents) of us wouldn’t have became a family, if my grandparents didn’t have their four kids or if they never even met we wouldn’t be the family were are today. Or maybe I wouldn’t even exist today, if my grandparents didn’t have my dad and my dad wouldn’t have found my mom.

But I love my grandparents and I’m sure glad they are mine and I’m glad they met, got married and had kids. I wouldn’t change anything about my grandparents lives, I love them, they love me. I take care of them and they take care of me.

My Grandparents and I

My Grandparents have always been there to pass down their knowledge.

When I’m working with my grandfather he usually is talking to me and teaching me things about life along the way during each day I work with him. This photo is obliviously just my grandmother and I at my high school graduation. Same with the cover photo, that one is another graduation photo as well the two are just taken at separate moments. My grandfather doesn’t usually talk much, but when he does its usually words of wisdom or he’s just being funny.

This photo is at my grandparents house at Christmas time. Cause again the only place we celebrate Christmas is at my grandparents house. I don’t know why that’s the chosen place to celebrate it or why we only celebrate at their place but thats just the way its and how it turned out to be.

Most of the time my grandparents get gifts for me and my family but every now and again we give back to them. We get them a gift to show them we love them, we are thinking of them and just to thank them for being such great people and great grandparents. And whenever we ask for anything they usually give us what we asked for and more.

What My Grandparents Own for Businesses

There are a couple places I help my grandparents with, and they own and maintain them.

One place is in Elmore and another is in Morris ville that I help them maintain, clean, and keep people happy. And keep them up and running. The place in Morrisville I help them with is called Sunset Apartments. There I change out every persons door screens from glass screen to a screen that is a thin plastic mesh that has holes in it to allow cool air to flow inside. At sunset apartments I also help clean peoples apartments as well as fix and clean toilets and sinks. The other place I help at is called Elmore apartments/ Elmore lake House.

As I was saying the other place I help out at is called What My Grandparents Own for Elmore ApartBusinesses Continued... ments/ Elmore Lake House. There I do pretty much the same stuff as I do at sunset.

Sunset has a first floor and a second floor and it is more of an apartment home than Elmore.

And on each floor there are about 6 to 8 apartments.

And I have to help my grampa maintain each one to keep up with peoples needs and keep them happy and maintain the place. Now for Elmore there are only two separate apartments side by side but the whole building is one whole thing. Since its only two apartments the upkeep and demand isnt as bad as the sunset apartments in morrisville. This is a pic of elmore.

At Elmore I have other things I have to do that I don’t do at sunset. like we do a little bit of wiring for stoves and ovens and such. Also at Elmore I do alot of cleaning, sweeping, dusting, moping, and organizing and setting up bed spreads and setting up camp for boating, kayaking, and fireworks. I’d have to say that working on both apartment places in Morrisville and Elmore that one doesn’t require more maintenace than the other, they are about equal as far as labor and upkeep. They are just two separate jobs with similar work that just has to get done. These are pics of the Gazebo and upstairs bedroom of the first apartment at elmore.

These are pics of another business my grandparetns used to run and own. The First pic on the top is the outside of the place called “The Charlmont.” and the other pics are the inside of The Charlmont. As a matter of fact this place is right in morrisville near the Maplefields gas station. like right across from the gas station. This place started out as “The Charlmont” but eventually it got changed to “The Stone Grill” and it was called that for the longest time.

But now ironically It is now back to The Charlmont.

But obviously my grandparents dont own it anymore.

They sold it to someone else long ago.

What My Grandparents Own for Businesses Continued...

This is another place my grandparents own. It is just called The Eden Lake House.

And obviously it is in eden and has a nice view of eden lake. It is very similar to the lake house my grandparents own in elmore. In the respect that there is a nice view of the lake and there is lots of fun water activities to do when you live near a lake, but only in the summer time obviously. Cause in the winter the water would be frozen.

These are pics of my both my grandparents. They are their best pics of them and they are their obituary pics. Like I said in this whole photodocumentary my grandparents have always been there for me and my family no matter what. They have been there for their four children, thier 8 grandchildren (counting me) and they have even been there for thier brothers and sisters. They have always loved me and my family and treated us nicely.

They have done so much for everyone in my family and their family. They have always given us what we wanted and taken such great care of thier family and my family. I could not imagine my life without them.

Love The’ve been there for us all!

Here is just another pic of a time my grandparents have been there for family. This pic is of my Aunt Danielles Wedding (Their Daughter).

My Aunt Danielle has dated like 3 to 5 different guys. and now most currently Uncle Matt is the last. I think Matt is in that range of 3 to 5 he isn’t like Danielles 6th guy. I’d say he’s guy #5 and the last guy she will be with. But anyway the point is that my grandparents have been there several times over, for family. and still counting. They still continue to be there for all of us.

This is another place my grandparents run and own. I help them run/maintain it every summer when I work with my grandfather.

This place is not too far from sunset apartments. My grandparents call this place “The Duplex”. I guess because it has two homes in one.

Cause “duo” means two. The duplex is within walking distance of sunset apartments. It’s like a couple feet from the apartments. The same people pay rent to my grandparents to live there every day. But every now and again different people live in the Duplex. Like my mom and dad used to live there, I think before my sister and I were born.

My name is Jacob Houle I am 19 yrs old and I am currently in my sophomore year in college now. I created this book in my Advanced Digital Meida: Photodocumentary and Journalism class in my sphomore year. I have one sister, Three dogs, and a mom and dad that love me very much.
