BACK IN THE FUN!
Welcome to the 2023 Du Quoin State Fair!
We’re proud to welcome you to the 101st fair – a special celebration and hallmark of Southern Illinois. Last year marked the fair’s centennial celebration, and we’re thrilled to see it grow year after year.
Our Du Quoin State Fair brings together residents and visitors alike to celebrate all that Illinois contributes to the story of our nation. From our great plains, to our lake front, and incomparable farmland, the fair encapsulates the tens of thousands of square miles that make up the Land of Lincoln. Started by the storied Hayes family, the annual event brings together people from across the heartland of the nation and serves as an annual economic driver for the region.
Du Quoin has always carried on our legacy of agricultural traditions that make Illinois special – and this fair is no exception. We’re grateful for this welcome occasion to honor our farmers and their agricultural industry partners – celebrating their history and sharing their hopes and dreams for the future.
To every visitor that comes to our fairgrounds, we hope your days are filled with fun, adventure, and life-long memories. Thank you for making the Du Quoin State Fair a part of your summer.
Sincerely,
JB Pritzker Governor MK Pritzker First Lady

During your visit, we hope you take notice of the work to revitalize the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. Starting with the historic neon lights being turned on at the front gate in 2022, to renovating the grandstand and administration building, there has been tremendous investments made to the fairgrounds.
Similarly, in agriculture, progress is incremental. The work and dedication that goes into the planting season is followed by a bountiful harvest. That is why we chose the theme “Harvest the Fun” for the 2023 Du Quoin State Fair. While we continue to look for ways to make these historic grounds stand the test of time, we are proud of the strides we have made.
As you and your family venture around the grounds during these 11 days, our goal is that you have fun. Whether it’s showing animals, enjoying a concert, tapping into your adventurous side with one of the thrill-seeking carnival rides or trying each and every delicious fair food we have to offer, the Du Quoin State Fair has something for everyone.
We are proud to call southern Illinois home and are happy you are on the fairgrounds. We hope you will have another year full of memories made at the Du Quoin State Fair and encourage you to “Harvest the Fun.”

A QUICK HISTORY
LESSON OF THE FAIR
The Du Quoin State Fairgrounds has been “home” to many things... many, many events... in its 101-year-old lifetime. Huge camping rallies, national car shows and races, horse events of all kinds, rodeos, livestock shows, reunions, motorcycle races, weddings, tractor pulls. You name it, it’s probably been held at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. The most popular? By far, the best-known event has been “The Du Quoin State Fair”, now in its 37th year under the ownership of the State of Illinois. It all started back in the spring of 1923 when a group of successful and ambitious Du Quoin business leaders came up with an idea to sponsor an event that hopefully would attract people from all over Southern Illinois. Several owned horses and needed a convenient place for them to compete. Not shy about making big claims, even from the very start, the group called it “The Du Quoin State Fair” because they wanted it to become as nice, as attractive, as well accepted in the area as the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. It didn’t happen over-night. Crowds were somewhat modest in the beginning, in the roaring twenties. Nevertheless the Fair did attract crowds of 50,000 or so, at least as reported by probably biased area sources. Now, after reaching the century mark, the Du Quoin State Fair can accurately make many impressive claims. Millions, yes millions, have passed through its gates down through the years as more than an estimated 300,000 do so each year for the Fair itself. For many years – 1957 through 1980 – it was “Home of the Hambletonian”, harness racing’s “Kentucky Derby”. Almost equally as important, auto racing has been an attraction for years. Other than Elvis, Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand, one would have difficulty in naming a prominent entertainer who has not appeared on stage at the Du Quoin State Fair. It proudly has become Southern Illinois’ most popular attraction as it has appeal to all ages and fans of all types of events. This year’s dates are Aug. 25 – Sept. 4.
