From the Executive Director and President Dear Friends of The Catholic Foundation,
For over fifty years the Catholic Foundation has been the planned giving arm of the Diocese of Jackson. What started as a dream around a kitchen table with Bishop Brunini, priests, and Catholic leaders from across the diocese became a reality in 1973. Through the years Bishops, priests, Catholic Foundation Board members, and the staff have continued to help parishioners around our diocese establish trusts that will benefit parishes, schools, and ministries in our communities. One of the benefits of starting a trust with the Catholic Foundation is that we do not charge an administrative fee to manage these trusts. We raise funds through events and member participation so that the full distribution can go to the donor’s beneficiary. In October we held our 50th annual Membership meeting where we recognized two men - the late Jack Geary and Lewis Mallory who were present at the first meeting the Foundation held. In October, our grant committee distributed over distributed over $82,000 and funded 25 immediate need projects in our diocese. The Bishop’s Cup committee held the 41st annual Bishop Cup Golf Tournament and raised $44,000 that supports both grant projects and administration fees. We also had a successful membership campaign that also helped to raise funds to cover the administrative fees. We would like to thank our generous donors for your support and for making this past year another outstanding year for the Catholic Foundation. It is our mission to partner with you and provide Catholic planned giving strategies to help sustain the future of our parishes, schools, and Catholic ministries. Our Board of Directors ensure that all funds raised are governed in the Spirit of Christ upholding our Catholic values. Our board is comprised of individuals from all over our diocese who volunteer their time and expertise to the mission. It is their continued leadership that assures the future growth of the Catholic Foundation. The Catholic Foundation is committed to doing our Lord’s work through prudent, thoughtful management and prayerful discernment. We are honored that you have chosen to partner with us in this ministry. It with both pride and gratitude that we share this annual report with you so that you can see how the Catholic Foundation continues to impact our Catholic ministries and enriches the legacy of our Catholic faith throughout the diocese. Our staff is here to help you support your faith. To discuss your planned giving options, please contact the Catholic Foundation at 601.960.8477. Warmest Regards,
Rebecca Harris Executive Director
Joe G. Rice, Jr. President

Catholic Foundation Grants Parchman Penitentiary Prison MinistryThanksgiving Meal Grant The generous grant from The Catholic Foundation allowed the Dismas Prison Ministry at Parchman to serve a delicious, traditional Thanksgiving Meal to over 750 inmates. It was an exceptional outpouring of good food and great fellowship. Dozens of inmate Trustees helped prepare, serve, and deliver the food. They were assisted by many senior level corrections officers and staff members. Bishop Joseph Kopacz spent hours on the preparation and serving line. Later in the day, he helped distribute the meals at the Death Row unit. He was warmly welcomed by the inmates he has visited each year since becoming the Bishop of Jackson. Pope Francis describes a “culture of encounter,” as a process that allows diverse and often unfamiliar groups to attain understanding and appreciation and ultimately an awareness of God’s loving presence. Thanks to the generous support of The Catholic Foundation, Thanksgiving Day at Parchman achieved a central goal of the newly organized prison ministry: to show the Love of Christ through action and compassion. By every measure, it also was an encounter with Christ.

Catholic Foundation Grants Office of Faith Formation and Religious Education Fall Faith Formation Day Grant Fall Faith Formation Day (FFF Day) is an annual event put on by the Department of Faith Formation on the third Saturday of August. We look at topics that transcend a single ministry and address formational issues at the parish and in our schools. The theme for the 2023 FFF Day was Renewing the Church with Families of Faith. Our Keynote speaker was Dr. Tim Hogan. Dr. Hogan is a psychologist and certified relationship therapist who specializes in the impact of technology on spirituality and relationships. He recently published The Gift of Cultural Hurricanes: Tools to Rebuild Authentic Spirituality. Dr. Hogan received high marks on our evaluation for the day. The day includes breakout sessions in between the two plenary talks. The breakout topics for 2023 included: Enhancing Prayer, Sr Amelia Breton; Making Lifelong Faith Formation Matter: Growing Families of Faith, Jeff and Ann Cook; Tips and Tricks for Classroom Management, Lexie Gosselin; Path to Purpose for Early Childhood, Amanda Jones; A Path Forward: Pastoral Reimagining, Fran Lavelle; and Walk, Listen, Thrive: A Practical Guide to Accompaniment and Intentional Listening, Abbey Schuhmann. The Department of Faith Formation is grateful for the continued support of the Catholic Foundation in helping us bring meaningful ministry opportunities to our Pictured: Dr. Tim Hogan school and parish formators. Save the date for our 2024 Fall Faith Formation Day on August 17 at St. Francis in Madison. Our keynote speaker is Fr. Tim Donovan from the diocese of Orange, California!
St. Joseph Catholic School, Greenwood, MS School Safety Grant With school violence on the rise, St. Joseph Catholic School in Greenville took some important steps to protect children and our staff. The Catholic Foundation Grant provided our school the opportunity to purchase the lock down shades for each classroom in our school. Lock down shades are shades that teachers can pull down quickly and effectively to cover their classroom window in the event of an intruder. The lock down shade prevents the intruder from seeing the teacher and children's location in their classroom. Not only can a person not see through them, due to their customized fit, the person cannot look through the side of them. The installation was extremely easy. We certainly hope that we will not have to activate them in an emergency situation, but knowing we have an extra layer of security, and taking additional steps to provide a safer environment, will bring peace of mind to our students, staff, parents, and guardians. We thank the Catholic Foundation and their donors for supporting this important initiative at our school. Keeping our children safe is a priority at our school.

Catholic Foundation Grants Sacred Heart Southern Missions Evangelization and Faith Formation Grant The priests of the Sacred Heart have served six parishes in Northwest, MS for many years. This year, the Catholic Foundation awarded grants for each of these parishes for Evangelization and Formation. We want to say, “THANK YOU!” We are ever expanding our outreach to our current parishioners (Catholics and non-Catholics alike) as well as to our communities in various ways. This grant helped us purchase numerous books for our small faith groups and parish-wide evangelization. Our goal is to continue to be proactive in all six parishes by reaching out with a proactive evagelization approach, along with increasing our faith formation efforts and to enhance our communication efforts. This grant from the Catholic Foundation is helping us to achieve this goal.

Sacred Heart Canton, MS Senior Citizen Meal Grant At Sacred Heart in Camden, MS we are providing essential services to the senior citizens and disabled people in rural Madison County. The senior citizens food program, supported by the grant from the Catholic Foundation is making a significant difference in the lives of those in need. Providing over 90 cooked meals five days a week reflects our strong commitment to addressing the growing need for such services in the community. Additionally, involving volunteers in transporting and delivering the meals demonstrates a collaborative effort to extend support. The goal at Sacred Heart is to partner with organizations like the Catholic Foundation so we can work together to bring about positive changes in the community. We are dedicated to direct services and systematic changes that align with a holistic approach to improving the well-being of the population. We thank the Catholic Foundation for your support.

Donor Stories St. Anthony Catholic School, Madison, MS St. Anthony Catholic School Teacher Trust Our parish school, St. Anthony Catholic School, is excellent and is blessed with many outstanding dedicated teachers. The trust was established with the Catholic Foundation to help make their salaries equal to those of their public school counterparts. Our teachers’ willingness to serve St. Anthony should not be to their financial detriment. This trust will help bridge that pay gap over the long term and will hopefully raise an awareness of this issue, perhaps resulting in other ways to remedy this situation. Once the salaries are equal, any remaining distributable income will be used to fund the educational needs of the school in the principal’s discretion. - Ed and Cindy Hannan, St. Francis Parish Madison, MS Pictured: Ed and Cindy Hannan
St. Joseph Parish, Starkville, MS St. Joseph Columbarium Trust Our parish built the Raymond and Geraldine Orgler Memorial Columbarium back in 2011. We have a beautiful courtyard setting to provide families a peaceful and reverent resting place for their loved ones. As a parish we wanted to ensure the beauty and maintenance of our Columbarium. Last year we decided to start a trust that would help with the yearly maintenance. We have several other trusts with the Catholic Foundation. We appreciate how easy it is to start the trust and it gives our parishioners solace knowing that this is a perpetual trust, and the principal will stay intact and provide us with income each year to cover the maintenance costs. Fr. Jason Johnston, St. Joseph Starkville Pictured: St. Joseph Columbarium
