It’s Time to Complete the Annual Retail Propane Sales Report for 2021 Ensure Texas gets fair share of PERC Funding For the past 20 years, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) has produced an exclusive annual report on U.S. odorized propane sales by market, region and state. Each year we rely on propane professionals like you to provide the data necessary to portray an accurate picture of the industry’s retail sales performance. If you have previously shared your company’s data for this report, thank you. We know that your time is valuable, and we appreciate your participation. If not, we urge you to do so beginning with the 2021 sales data now being collected. Starting April 1, please go to propane. com/salesreport and follow the on-screen instructions for completing the report. Based on feedback from industry members, we have simplified the collection

2020 Pandemic Propane Sales Data According to the Sales of Propane report published by PERC for 2020, “In 2020, U.S. retail (odorized) propane sales totaled 9.44 billion gallons, a 7.0% year-over-year decline from the 10.14 billion gallons sold in 2019.” A decrease in daily economic activities due to COVID 19 (e.g., school shutdowns, restaurant slowdowns, & more) and warmer weather led to the decline overall in propane sales for the United States and only marginally for Texas. We’ve included here some of the data sets that these reports help build. While the biggest market in the U.S. is residential with 54% of the national market share, in Texas, the commercial sector is our largest market. Propane Council Rolls Out Simplified 2022 Texas Propane Appliance Rebate Program The Texas Saves with Propane Appliance Rebate Program, funded by the Propane Council of Texas (ProCOT), will continue to help Texas homeowners and businesses that purchase select new propane appliances offset their costs in 2022. Whether someone is remodeling their home, building a new house, or just replacing an old or malfunctioning appliance, this program was developed to assist them and be a carrot to choose propane as their preferred energy choice. 2022 propane appliance rebate amounts will remain the same

$300 for new propane boiler or furnace (includes propane backups) $300 for new propane water heater $600 rebate cap per Texas household or Texas business What is a qualifying installation? A new qualifying propane appliance can be installed in any of the following: sitebuilt house, manufactured house, mobile home, or commercial property. A propane safety inspection is required. Installations in RVs, travel trailers, or homes connected to propane community distribution systems do not qualify. Important Changes for 2022

1. Applicants must use the updated 2022 version of the appliance rebate application found on pages 17-18. 2. Applies to qualifying propane appliances purchased on or after January 1, 2022, while funding is available. 3. Reservation system has been removed. Rebates are available first-come, first-served, while rebate funding is available during the 2022 calendar year. The live calculator is available on the rebate website. 4. The Council has removed the deadline that applications must be submitted within 30 days of the safety inspection but strongly encourages that marketers

16

get in the applications as soon as completed, so their customer does not miss out on the rebate. 5. Incomplete or insufficient applications will receive an automatic denial if not rectified within 30 days. Texas Rebate Portal

The rebate portal can be found at https://txsaveswithpropane.com is your one-stop shop to check fund availability, download marketing rebate materials, submit rebates, and check the statuses of each of your rebate applications. It’s as easy as 1.2.3. to apply in 2022

1. Propane providers must register as participating propane marketers by registering at https://txsaveswithpropane. com. If you registered in 2021, you do not have to re-register. 2. Texas Propane • www.txpropane.com

3. *Rebate payment will be sent directly to the end-user either by check or new in 2022; customers can be paid via electronic funds transfer (EFT) if their email address is provided. *Rebate payments cannot be reassigned to the propane provider, builder, or plumber. Examples of a valid proof of purchase include zero balance invoice; invoice marked paid, sales receipt for appliance purchase. Unpaid invoices and quotes will not be accepted as a valid proof of purchase. For new construction proof of purchase, the Council will continue to accept gas appliance system check form, a copy of the home or building purchase contract, bill of sale, builder’s contract that shows year built. In place of the builder contract, will accept work order from the contractor showing qualifying appliance installed if indicates the end user’s address on the work order.

Google Reviews Disappearing? Here’s Why 14 Reasons Why Your Google Business Profile Reviews Disappeared By Brandon Doyle Businesses large and small rely on their Google Business Profile (formerly known as Google My Business) as a source of qualified leads and consumer knowledge. One of the most used features of Google Business Profiles are reviews, and if you’ve recently seen your Google reviews disappearing … you’re not alone. First, don’t panic. Disappearing Google reviews have happened before to many types of businesses of many different sizes. Here are 14 reasons why your Google reviews disappeared and what you can do to get them back. Review Spam: Google’s Never-Ending Fight Against Spam and Inappropriate Content

There are several reasons why your Google review is nowhere to be found. Google’s pushback against review spam is perhaps the most common. If a review violates Google’s prohibited and restricted content for reviews, it will be removed. While most Google reviews disappear

due to spam, fake content, or off-topic content, below are all the reasons why Google may remove reviews in its fight against spam and inappropriate content. Spam and Fake Content

Google reviews should reflect a customer’s genuine experience. It should not be posted with malintent to manipulate a company’s review rating. Additionally, Google Business Profile reviews must be 100% unique and not found verbatim on other places around the web (Yelp, Facebook, etc.). Lastly, the same review may not be posted by multiple accounts owned by the same user. Off-Topic

Does the review include content unrelated to the customer’s experience or your business? Does it contain social or political commentary or personal rants about other people, places, or things? Google reviews will disappear if they include off-topic content. Restricted Content

Google reserves the right to remove your

Let the company that knows your business, protect your business

Google reviews if they contain restricted content like offers/discounts/call-toactions to sell alcohol, gambling, tobacco, guns, health and medical devices, pharmaceuticals, financial services, and adult services. This is not an all-encompassing list, and Google reserves the right to use its judgment when deciding whether to remove a review. Restricted content also includes: • Links to landing pages to purchase restricted goods and services • Email addresses or phone numbers to purchase restricted goods and services • Promotional offers for restricted goods and services • Not all accidental promotional content is deemed a violation of Google Business Profile’s policies—like reviews including menus for restaurants. Illegal Content

If one of your Google reviews disappears, it may be because it contains illegal content or activity such as: Images or content that violates the owner’s copyright • Content of dangerous or illegal acts (e.g., human trafficking, sexual assault, etc.) • Illegal products or services like endangered animal products, illegal drugs, prescription drugs sold on a black market, etc. • Images or content that promote violence • Content produced by or on behalf of terrorist groups Offensive Content

Google will remove reviews containing obscene gestures, profanity, or offensive language. Dangerous and Derogatory Content

Google reviews will be removed if its content is deemed dangerous or derogatory, including but not limited to: • Threatens or advocates for harm of oneself or others • Harasses, intimidates, or bullies an individual or group of individuals

Marketing Minute • Incites hatred against, promotes discrimination of, or disparages an individual or group of individuals based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, nationality, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other characteristics associated with systemic discrimination or marginalization Terrorist Content

Was your Google Business Profile hit with fake reviews from a terrorist group in an attempt to recruit others, promote ter-

different Google account, will be removed. Google also reserves the right to remove content, suspend accounts, and/or pursue other legal action against review contributors who falsely claim they represent or are employed by Google.

rorist acts, incite violence, or celebrate terrorist acts? It will be removed. Although terrorist content is unlikely for small- and medium-sized businesses in the United States, it could happen. Sexually Explicit Content

Conflict of Interest

Reviews containing sexually explicit material and/or the sexual exploitation of minors will be removed immediately.

A Google review may disappear if Google finds a conflict of interest within the review content or from the user. This includes: • Reviewing your own business or the business you work for

Marketing Minute • Posting a review about a current or former employment experience (including employees who were terminated with rightful cause) • Posting content about a competitor to manipulate their ratings or search position. You Received a Large Influx of Reviews Overnight

Businesses should strive to generate reviews on their Google Business Profile organically, meaning a consistent cadence of new reviews is generated each month. If you go 10 months without a review

and then overnight get (for example) 25 reviews, this may cause your Google reviews to disappear. The Review Was Written from Inside Your Store or From Too Far Away

Google is smart. It detects a user’s IP address (telling it exactly where the review was left from). If a review was left from inside your store, Google might remove it. If you serve local customers in their homes, like an HVAC company, plumber, roofer, etc., and a review is left from someone across the country, Google may remove it.

Disability Insurance • Farm & Ranch • Employee Benefits • Long Term Care Financial & Estate Planning • Home & Auto • Life Insurance

Google is a behemoth of a search engine. It’s the largest in the world and holds approximately a 90% U.S. market share. As such, Google has many algorithms and software to manage its search engine and platforms it owns—like Google Business Profiles. Sometimes, Google experiences bugs and glitches in their technology, causing Google Business reviews to disappear. While Google rarely admits fault, this could be the case for your missing reviews. Your Google Business Profile Was Suspended, and Now Google Reviews Disappeared

If your Google Business Profile was suspended, then reinstated, and reviews disappeared during that process, you can get your reviews back. Submit a Google Business Profile support ticket for more assistance.

Don’t Forget To Make Sure the User Didn’t Delete Their Review

In rare cases, a Google user may delete a review for any reason. If one (or multiple) Google reviews disappeared, double-check it wasn’t deleted. Getting Your Reviews Back Isn’t Easy

Unfortunately, getting your disappearing Google reviews back isn’t as easy as it sounds, and there is no guarantee that they will ever come back. According to Google’s own documentation, missing reviews that were flagged for policy violations are not eligible to reappear on your profile. I recommend submitting a Google Business Profile support ticket to bring your case to Google and (possibly) get your reviews back. Brandon Doyle is Blue Corona’s Director of Marketing. Inside the Industry

People in Propane George Alvis Patterson, 96, of Fairfield, passed away on February 9, 2022 at home. George joined the Army at 18 and served in WWII in Europe. He married the love of his life upon returning. George loved to be with his family for holidays and activities. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his garden and with his cows. He worked for many years as a Plant Operator and Maintenance Supervisor at Northern Propane Underground Storage. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. Freddie Wayne Blassingame, 80, of Sumner, passed away February 20, 2002 at his home. Following high school graduation, Fred entered the US Navy, serving on the USS Ranger during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Lamar County and began working at Babcock & Wilcox where he remained for a number of years. He then worked several years for A & J Propane before establishing Fred’s Propane Company, which he owned and operated until selling the business upon his retirement. Our thoughts and prayers go out the family at this time. James Clifford “Cliff” Jemison, 89, passed away on February 20, 2022 at home in Beeville, TX. He grew up farming with his parents and siblings. Once he graduated from high school, James started working for International Harvester. After that he delivered propane for Reynold’s Propane and then worked in the oilfield industry until he retired in 1997. James was a member of a Model A Club that gathered for road trips and lunches in various towns. On the fun side he and his wife would dress the part in overalls and entered a multitude of parades with his car winning many first-place trophies. Our thoughts go out to the family at this time. Milton Hopkins, 88, of Houston, TX, passed away on February 22, 2022. Mr. Hopkins traveled the world playing gigs as the guitarist and bandleader for B.B. King, Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye and many others. Many other musicians say that he brought a quiet dignity to his guitar playing and could work with anyone. After a decade with B.B. King, Milton left San Francisco to return to Houston where his mother was ailing. There he drove a truck delivering propane and butane, work that proved hard on his hands. In 2018 he went back to playing music. He is in our thoughts and prayers. Russell (Rusty) Kirby Looper, 61, of Holliday, passed away on February 22, 2022. Rusty loved spending time with his family, whether it be on the field coaching little league football or baseball, being behind the chute pulling a rope at the rodeo or cheering from the stands at band contests. He enjoyed teaching them to hunt, fish and raise their animals for the livestock shows. Rusty worked various occupations throughout his life from driving a truck in the oil and gas industry to apartment maintenance. He had been loyally employed in the propane industry for the past 28 years by Kelly Propane. He served on the Archer County Jr. Livestock Show Board, was a member of the Holliday First Baptist Church, and a Holliday Eagle fan. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the following: Archer County Jr. Livestock Association, P.O. Box 1731, Archer City, TX 76351, the Holliday First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. During his podcasts, Rowe will read a 60-second message promoting the propane industry as offering fulfilling work in the clean energy economy, noting that odds are good that there are propane companies in all towns looking to fill openings. He will then direct listeners to the workforce development resources on propane.com.

Propane Industry Training Conference Draws 100

A cross section of about 100 industry professionals representing 73 companies attended the expanded Propone Education and Training Conference hosted by PERC in March in Dallas. “In addition to the traditional regulatory and technical workshops, the two-day conference offered a unique opportunity to discuss expanding educational programs, how programs can be utilized better by the industry, and how a wide variety of educational content can support workforce outreach and development,” observed Eric Kuster, PERC’s vice president of safety, education and compliance. “The opportunity to discuss these issues in person and

Propane With Purpose

Painting with Fire

If you’ve ever enjoyed a Jasper Johns piece of art, then you’ve been exposed to encaustic painting. Encaustic painting, for those unfamiliar, is a technique that involves pigments mixing with hot liquid wax. The word encaustic is Greek in origin, and means to “burn in” or fuse with heat.

gence in interest in the process. Diego Rivera used it for a commissioned project in 1922, but it was Jasper Johns who is most famous for the method. He forged a new path for contemporary encaustic painting with his flag paintings. The essence of encaustic painting is heat.

The medium is not new. It’s been around since 500 B.C. In fact, when Homer wrote about the painted ships that sailed into Troy, he was describing ships that had painted images on them using the encaustic method. The wax and resin were a way of sealing the ships. Because beeswax is impervious to moisture, it was a durable material to use on vessels. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the method largely became a lost art, waiting for modern artists to discover it. In the 20th Century, electricity and modern tools drove a resur-

When Homer was around, the source of heat was no doubt fire. Technology, of course, has changed the medium. Today, artists can utilize a variety of tools in heating and mixing the wax. One of the popular tools is a small propane torch. The pint-sized items provide consistent temperatures, are adjustable, are easy to operate and always pack a punch. They are additionally easy to turn off and on, which is perfect for artists. The utilitarian propane torch is an invaluable part of an encaustic painter’s toolbox.
