Greetings! The publication in your hand documents an entire year’s worth of investment into the mission and ministry of Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. Hundreds of faculty, staff, parents, grandparents, corporations, foundations, and friends of the school have given generously of their time, their talent, and their treasure. It is appropriate that we bear witness to this investment because our school would simply not be all that it is without it. That may sound cliché but I assure you, it is fact.

That’s a big job and the truth is, it requires substantial resources. God compels each of us to respond to needs with generous hearts, acknowledging that all we have comes from Him. You have responded indeed, and in a mighty way. I am humbled and deeply grateful. DeVore Hall Consecration The 2015-2016 school year kicked off with a memorable ceremony to celebrate and honor Mr. Darren DeVore, the founder of Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. On the sunny morning of August 10, the DeVore family and MBCA faculty, staff, students and friends gathered to witness the unveiling of the new etched glass sign atop the Academy’s main entrance and to present Mr. DeVore with a plaque commemorating the special day. Erected in 2002, the Academy’s main campus building stands as a tribute to the vision and dedication of Mr. DeVore. At 72,000 square feet, DeVore Hall remains a state-of-the art facility with 48 classrooms, media center and production studio. Home to our Lower School and Middle School, more than 560 students learn, play and worship within its walls each day. In partnership with then Senior Pastor of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Dr. Randy Mickler, Mr. DeVore labored tirelessly to create a school that would provide a truly Christ-centered education for our children through an environment that develops and encourages academic excellence, spiritual growth, and a lifelong love and desire for learning. Mr. DeVore faithfully served the Academy as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the school’s first ten years. With his wife, Pam, and daughters, Brooke and Addy, the DeVores were among the Academy’s first families. His is truly a legacy of service and devotion for which the Mt. Bethel community is eternally grateful.

It was a Grand Day at MBCA! October 2, 2015 marked the biggest and best Grandparents Day in MBCA history. In the morning, every pew in the sanctuary filled with Lower School and Middle School students, side by side with their grandparents for a special chapel service. A first grade class performed the song, “Dare to Care,” using American Sign Language, and the Eagle Choir, Middle School chorus and Middle School band made beautiful music. A short video was aired to showcase the talented students in our Production Studio, and prizes were awarded to grandparents who had been married the longest, had the most grandchildren, and traveled the farthest to be a part of this special day. Each visitor received, as a special gift from the Academy, a wooden Christmas tree ornament featuring the MBCA logo and hung with a navy blue ribbon.

In the classrooms, grandparents got to see firsthand the wonderful work their grandchildren do at the Academy each day. They experimented with iPads, were interview subjects, proofreaders and storytellers. But most of all, they were present. And the students’ smiles showed just how much that meant! At lunchtime, hundreds of plates of Slope’s BBQ and ice cream from the Little Blue Truck were enjoyed by our guests. From the speakers, familiar rock and roll songs from the 1950s and 1960s brought back great memories. Without a doubt, MBCA grandparents do grand things, and

we are so fortunate we are able to set aside an entire day to honor these remarkable men and women each year. Since 1978, Grandparents Day is celebrated nationally every September in America when it was officially proclaimed as a day of recognition. “The elders of each family have the responsibility for setting the moral tone for the family and for passing on the traditional values of our Nation to their children and grandchildren. They bore the hardships and made the sacrifices that produced much of the progress and comfort we enjoy today.” President Jimmy Carter, 1978.

To the grandparents who are part of the MBCA family: Thank you for the astounding ways in which you support the Academy and help shape its families into the blessings they are to us. And most importantly, thank you for sharing your grandchildren with us each day and allowing us to love them and worship with them. We are truly grateful.

Wow!

An army of more than 100 volunteers assisted shoppers and rang up more than $26,600 in purchases over the five-day fair.

2015 Book Fair

The book fair, a hotly anticipated weeklong event, brings the look and feel of a bustling children’s book store right inside the MBCA library. Although Scholastic Book Fairs have been around for decades and take place in all 50 states, Mrs. Sauve, our Media Specialist, makes sure the MBCA book fair is the best of the bunch. “We pray over every book fair,” said Mrs. Sauve. “Scholastic sends us one of the biggest book fairs in all of Georgia, and we sell a lot of books because our students are readers.” When the students arrived for school on the morning of Monday, October 26, the top-secret book fair theme was revealed: Pirates! Over the weekend the library had been transformed into a pirate ship, complete with a cannon and sunken treasure. The “best-sellers” titles were displayed in front of toothy reptiles at Crocodile Cove. Other great reads were tucked into the Frog Grotto, Butterfly Bay and Chimp Cove. And best of all, Mrs. Sauve was dressed head to toe in full pirate gear. Book Fair chairpersons Mistye Wilson and Kelly Petroff recruited and managed an army of more than 100 volunteers who assisted shoppers and rang up more than $26,600 in purchases over the five-day fair. Wow! The net proceeds, more than $6,600, was reinvested in the library. The bulk of these funds goes to purchasing books, but some was used to replace the circulation desk and update the library. Student shoppers had the opportunity at checkout to contribute an extra dollar for the school to buy items for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Those who participated wrote their names on a paper fish and hung it on the wall. A successful book fair plays a great role in encouraging the reading habits of our students. Thank you, MBCA families, for so generously supporting this wonderful event!

You Fed Me “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:35-36 (NIV) Little hands and big hands, working together, achieved something remarkable on February 26, 2016. In the span of just a few hours, MBCA students, faculty and parent volunteers packaged 113,000 meals as part of the fifth annual You Fed Me schoolwide service project. A middle school initiative in its first year, You Fed Me made such an impression on the lower school students that the very next year it was reworked into a project in which even our very youngest students could participate.

Operation Christmas Child Every year since the Academy was founded in 1998, MBCA students have participated in Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse. During a special, highly anticipated chapel in November, students line up to fill the sanctuary with brightly wrapped packages to be shipped far away to a boy or girl who may have never before received a present. The shoeboxes contain more than just presents; each one carries with it the love of Jesus

In an armor of hairnets and gloves, MBCA students bravely locked arms with their friends to feed someone they will likely never meet. Undaunted by the scary fact that globally there are hundreds of millions of people dangerously undernourished, these students chose to serve. MBCA families contributed $18,097 for the 2016 You Fed Me meals. Thanks to the generosity of this community, our students were able to provide lifesaving nourishment to bodies halfway around the world, bodies made in the image of the same God who created them. When the final bell tolled upon completion of that last meal, thunderous cheers erupted across our gym. What an unforgettable moment! May God continue to bless us with opportunities to express our passion for serving others and to Him alone be the glory.

In 2015, students from the Lower, Middle and Upper schools provided 460 boxes to Samaritan’s Purse for Operation Christmas Child.

Christ. The shoebox gifts and their message have the potential to change the lives of a child and their family. Samaritan’s Purse is an international Christian relief and evangelism organization. Every November, Samaritan’s Purse collects millions of shoeboxes containing gifts of play, learning and hygiene, and distributes them to children in need in more than 150 countries around the world. Thank you for your prayers and your generosity in supporting Operation Christmas Child.

The Mt. Bethel Christian Academy is a breath-of-fresh-air. It is a shining light in the darkest night. It is a sign of hope that our nation can remain “one nation under God” now and forever. As I write these lines, I admit, they sound a bit overly dramatic. But are they?? Recently, a veteran first-grade teacher was informed by her Sacramento School Board that this year she would have to forego mentioning “Christmas.” Why? Because Christmas contains the word Christ. The name of Christ contradicts the situational ethics being taught in today’s politically-correct society. You see, if there is no true right and wrong, there must not be a notion of a Savior, or the need of a Savior. We are living in the midst of religious persecution. In order to promote “diversity,” these politically correct policies actually target individuals for their beliefs. It’s a systematic discrimination that is unconstitutional and illegal. Oops! I’m slipping into my preaching mode. The Academy is a place where Christ is embraced, taught, honored and loved. It is truly a “breath of fresh air” in today’s p.c. society!

When we began the Academy, our intention was to provide a Christ-centered, academically-excellent environment. Darren DeVore found the ideal concept already in place in a western state. We modeled the concept and celebrated the loving, caring environment it produces throughout the student body. That’s what we desired for our students and faculty. If you want to see a “shining light” in a world darkened by fear, confusion and hatred, look to the Academy. Is it perfect? No, but it strives to be faithful to our loving Lord’s instructions regarding all of life. It’s funny how His instructions generate love, acceptance and kindness. The wonder of it all is that excellence is achieved academically in the midst of Christian virtues! I take great pride in the fact that two of my grandsons are in the Academy! My family has truly benefited from the Academy’s environment. Our family ties are being strengthened. Our intellect is being expanded. Our faith is being honored, respected, taught and embraced. My grandsons are learning and living the Christ-centered life. They, with your children and grandchildren, are the “signs of hope” that our nation can and will remain “one nation under God.” Academy, have a great year and God bless you!

Every hand

IN THE HUDDLE Friends, I’m a huge football fan. If you’re engaged in conversation with me in the fall, you’re going to hear about it. And I love analogies about football; they work for just about anything. So, when Jim Callis made an off-the-cuff, sport’s analogy when referring to our fundraising successes, I immediately scribbled it down. Five words...“every hand in the huddle.” A simple phrase, but he nailed it. This perfectly encompasses the unspoken mantra of what it means to be part of the MBCA family. No matter the task, no matter the goal; this community is all in. Every member. Every time. A collective, recurring, emphatic YES! I’ve raised money for nonprofits for more than a decade and I have never witnessed anything like it. People often ask how we get everyone to say YES. I tell them, “Don’t look at me. Look around.” It’s in the hearts of the administrators, educators, parents, and students. Our sights are set on something greater than a financial goal and a participation thermometer. Our collective eyes and hearts are set on one unfailing path: Glorifying Jesus. This report’s purpose is not to highlight individuals, but to celebrate a school-wide victory. A victory for which we should be proud. Every dollar given lifted His kingdom, expanded His reach and glorified His name. Across every giving level; if your hand was in the huddle, you brought it across the end zone. The win was about Him, and for Him. At Mt. Bethel Christian Academy, Jesus is always at the center of the huddle. Our hands rest on Him. Our purpose is for Him. Because of this, we are victorious. Go Team! Blessings,

Parent Council Board Members of the Parent Council Board are elected from the school community and, for the most part, serve one year terms. Nominations are solicited in the spring of each year with the new Board being seated on April 1. The Parent Council works to support the Academy in many ways.

• Promoting unity, cooperation, and involvement within the Mt. Bethel family. • Fostering open and accurate communication between parents and the school. • Sponsoring events that promote community and raise funds for our school to enrich our children’s experience beyond the school’s operating budget. So much of what happens both inside and outside of the Academy is orchestrated by the Parent Council. The Back to School Bash, the East Cobber Parade, parent coffees, staff breakfasts, open houses, room mom coordination, Muffins with Mom, Donuts with Dad, the Spring Fling and Auction, teacher appreciation events, Thanksgiving Feast, Middle School dance and Middle School Christmas party, Field Day t-shirts and summer grade-level playdates – all of these events are organized and executed by the Parent Council. Additionally, Parent Council is the first to step forward when a need arises. When an Academy family member has an emergency, a need or a life event, Parent Council shows up. When the concession stand at a basketball game needs extra hands, you will find the Parent Council tying on aprons. Mt. Bethel Christian Academy is blessed by the Parent Council and all of our volunteers who work tirelessly all year long. Their servants’ hearts and smiling faces are a gift to the entire MBCA community.

The Spring Fling and Auction is the school’s LARGEST

THE YEAR and it significantly impacts the dayto-day activities of the students.

Spring Fling and Auction The 16th annual Spring Fling and Auction was held March 5, at the Pavillion at Olde Towne in east Cobb. The Spring Fling and Auction is the school’s largest fundraising event of the year and it significantly impacts the day-to-day activities of the students. Almost 200 Academy parents and faculty members enjoyed delicious cuisine and entertainment as they participated in both a silent and a live auction with all net proceeds supporting Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. Over the years, monies raised through sponsorship and the auction help the Academy pay for program enhancements such as innovative technology, updated sports fields, buses and transportation, a video production studio and playground equipment.

A wide variety of items were available for bidding, some of which are truly priceless. A sampling includes: • Head of School, Lower School, Middle School and Upper School Principal for the Day • VIP Academy Parking Spot

The auction committee added two new events to the Spring Fling which proved to be a lively way to get the whole crowd involved! A Wine Pull featuring more than 100 bottles of high-end wines sold out in minutes. A “Heads or Tails” game on the dance floor with Coach Hall had everyone laughing from start to finish when the winner was presented with an Apple watch!

Thank you to the families who supported MBCA by coming out for a great time, and also to the nearly 100 participants who bid online from home. The 2016 Spring Fling generated $60,000 for exciting enhancements to the school which the students will enjoy for years to come.

MBCA prices tuition low to ensure a quality, Christ-centered education for a wide economic cross section of families. Annual Fund gifts are a tax deductible way to bridge the gap between what tuition dollars can provide and actual operational costs. Ten percent of the Annual Fund is applied to the Academy’s endowment. While Annual Fund dollars are used for current projects and expenses, endowment dollars secure the future financial well-being of the school. A strong endowment is critical to the Academy’s longterm fiscal health. Georgia GOAL In 2015-2016, Mt. Bethel Christian Academy partnered with Georgia GOAL, a Student Scholarship Organization (SSO) created through the Georgia Private School Tax Credit Program. By allowing Georgia taxpayers to redirect a portion of their state income tax to MBCA, GOAL provides critical funding for qualified students in need of tuition assistance. Dear Parents, Thank you for allowing us to serve as your Annual Fund Chair Parents for the 2015-16 school year. It was truly a blessing to get to know so many of you through this process. We are humbled and honored to have gotten to know so many amazing and precious families. We originally brought our children to Mt. Bethel Christian Academy for what we thought it was -- a beautiful place for our children to plant their roots. The vision that we saw from outside the school was exactly what we thought we wanted and needed for our children. Everything about the school gave us encouragement that our children would be successful academically, socially, and spiritually. Our Academy leaders, teachers and staff have proved to be everything that we hoped for...and more. As a collective group, we share a love of our faith, we strive to meet the needs of our children, we support our teachers with such strength, and we RALLY when it comes time to support MBCA and its future. 100% participation is not the norm - it is seriously miraculous! Heath and I knew there was something special at this school by what we heard, saw and felt. The fund chair role allowed us to experience MBCA and its families on a different level and for that we are truly thankful. It has shown us that our school is not only beautiful on the outside, it’s most beautiful on the inside. Thank you for making our job as chairs easy and fun. You are all a solid group of people. We are proud to be among such gracious, generous, and loving families. MBCA is not just where we need or want to be, but also where God truly desires us to be. We are so grateful our children are planting their roots among your children. To God be all the glory for what He has done.

Dear MBCA Family, I was asked to encourage our faculty and staff to meet the goal of 100% participation in the 2015-2016 Annual Fund. To be honest, I felt ill equipped and a little concerned that I might not find the words to express myself. I gave it a shot, and God did the rest! We reached 100%! When asked to take on this role, I began to think about what I should say to the faculty. If you know me at all, you know that I absolutely love teaching! It’s really part of me. But my most important jobs in the world are that of mother and wife. Our daughter has attended MBCA since first grade. We work diligently to send Caroline to this school where she has grown academically, socially, and spiritually. I know that my colleagues are God-fearing men and women who pray for my child, and they have her best interest in mind with all they do. I stood before them at a faculty meeting knowing they are investing in my child and every child in this school. This investment is not just for today, but this will be for eternity.

When you see me in chapel, you’ll often find me wiping away tears. The tears are joyful ones. I still get overwhelmed that I work here, worship here, and have the opportunity to help lead children to Jesus Christ. It’s just too much joy sometimes! I was not really surprised we reached 100%. The teachers and staff here at MBCA are dedicated. You will see their cars in the parking lot well after hours. You will see them cheering on students at sporting events, art shows and plays. Giving Levels Giving levels at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy are calculated annually (July 1 through June 30) based on annual fund gifts to the Academy. Donors are recognized annually on our Honor Roll of Donors in the appropriate giving level. Corporate matching gifts are encouraged and will count toward giving levels.
