Breaking Ground...

The ceremonial groundbreaking for the Upper School Campus’s turf performance field ushered in a new era for Eagles athletics last summer. On June 29, 2022, with both excitement and gray clouds building, the MBCA community gathered to move a little dirt and eat a lot of cake.

Close to 300 student athletes, parents, coaches, school leadership, neighbors, and dignitaries celebrated the beginning of Arrow Field, a state-of-the-art football, lacrosse, and soccer field. Although the festivities were cut short by a quick-moving evening storm, Head of School Jim Cianca, Board Chair Rustin Parsons, Campus Planning Committee Chair & Board Member Matt Coutu, and Facilities Manager Steve Colley had just enough time to share their vision for what Arrow Field means to MBCA.

The completion of the field will enhance many aspects of campus life: improved parking and traffic flow, the development of feeder team programs, increased summer camp offerings, promote school and community spirit, and, most importantly, allow MBCA to host home games in a quality venue for our football, lacrosse, and soccer programs. Additionally, students with an interest in sideline cheer have the opportunity to do so right here at MBCA. The MBCA community has shown overwhelming support for the field project, with special thanks owed to our lead donors: Arrow Exterminators and Ragan and Jamie Weeks. Their gracious support is leading the Academy towards fulfillment of a long-held dream of expanding our athletics facilities and programs, creating a welcoming venue where student athletes, coaches, and spectators can experience the MBCA difference. The target date for Arrow Field’s completion is December 2022. The Eagles’ spring sports teams, from middle school to JV to Varsity, will compete in front of the home fans on campus this season! Please join us to take in a few games on our new home field. Arrow Field is part of phase one of the Academy’s master facilities plan. Once field construction is complete and fundraising is in place, work will begin on the adjacent field house, offering locker rooms, training facilities, a weight room, gathering space, and more to our athletes and coaches. The current training spaces in the Upper School’s main building will then be renovated to house new STEM labs and a fine arts studio. The best is yet to come!
