POMPANO BEACH PUBLIC ART PROGRAM

8

In 2012, the City Commission adopted a public art ordinance to enhance the aesthetic and cultural value of the city by including works of art on public properties within the city. The City Commission next created the Public Art Committee to guide the implementation of this program. This Committee meets on a monthly basis at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center at 5 pm on the third Thursday of each month. The Public Art Committee strives to create artworks and a public art program that is inventive, unexpected and surprising and to collaborate with the community through its festivals and cultural facilities. Currently, the Public Art Program is completing its Mosaic Team Project. Artist Sonata Kazimieraitiene has been commissioned to create four mosaic projects to be displayed throughout the City. Ms. Kazimieraitiene has been working with apprentices teaching them the craft of ceramics and mosaic art. One of the projects, Music Leads the Way, has been completed and is installed at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater. The Amphitheater is a 3,000 seat open-air performing arts theatre that hosts exceptional artists and events in North Broward’s venue for art, music, and culture. Music Leads the Way features music themed mosaic murals. To learn more about the program, please contact Laura Atria 954.545.7800, ext. 3813. Please also join our Artist Network and stay informed of current and future Call for Artists and other exciting art opportunities taking place in Pompano Beach. pompanobeacharts.org | May 2019 |

DOUBLE EXPOSURE EXHIBITION

GOOD LUCK WITH THE SUN EXHIBITION

This exhibition is an expression of the artist’s double life as a visual artist and vocalist. A.J. Brown will feature images from his collection such as Portraits, Landscapes, Folk and Pop Culture Art and viewers will be taken on a journey through time and space in each painting. They will experience the manipulation of canvas and colors uniquely created from the artist’s palette.

The word “luck” is often used when talking about sunny days. Luck is also an important factor in Krista Steinke’s exhibit where trial and error, chance, and imperfection become part of her photographic process. Using homemade pinhole cameras and other unconventional techniques, Steinke approaches the sun as both her subject and creative tool.
