ABOUT ME

I never knew what a landscape architect was. Coming out of high school i wanted to go into animation. As a kid I’ve always enjoyed drawing, scribbles on a page meant something to me because only I could understand it.

I am tenacious, especially when I am very passionate about something. I am Filipino and if you know anything about Filipino families it is almost expected that your child goes into the medical field.

Clearly, I did not go that route. I chose my own path and luckily, I have parents that support me.

My brother introduced me to architecture. I took many classes trying to figure out what I wanted to be. Back then I assumed Landscape Architects were just glorified gardeners, and I was incredibly wrong.

There is a certain passion, rigor and discipline that is required to pursue this path.

This is a culmination of my work; it is by no means finished. It is a representation of how much I have grown. I expect it to grow and evolve as I become more experienced and educated in this field.

THE HUB The Hub is the result of an internal competition within our studio. It is a redesign of Neutra Plaza located in Cal Poly Pomona just outside of The College of Environmental Design. A Team project that re-envisioned what the Plaza meant to us. I was on a team with Frances, and Emily. Together we wanted to create a space that focused on food, water, and community connection. We wanted the space to not only reflect the college of ENV, but also bring other colleges to this space. A community space where members of all colleges felt welcomed.

Our first move was to relocate the existing ENV cafĂŠ, we decided to locate it within the plaza because food is our biggest attractor to the space. The cafĂŠ would be created from a standard sized shipping container. To compliment

the space, we added various seating areas, with lawn chairs, movable tables, bar stools, and plenty of shading from trees and shade structures. The area with a physical shade structure would also double as a presentation area. In terms of water we wanted to address two areas that always flooded.

We wanted to work with the existing grade change on site and added trench drains to appropriate areas and permeable paver to help mitigate our issues with water.

In terms of who did who, I personally worked on the section located below, circulation diagram, hydrology diagram, material diagram, and the hardscape diagram.

VENERATION OF SPIRIT Veneration of Ancestral Roots was a team project within the Bobby Brooks Studio. It is a musuem for the African American Museum of Beginnings. We have a heavy theme of wayfinding which is a three part process which includes: Learning, Reflecting, and Healing. Veneration of spirit focuses on Healing.

With a heavy emphasis on story telling, we focused on creating a cohesive journey through this musuem, and the heavy contemplation of ones self. Veneration of spirit is the last part of the journey. It is a labyrinth but it is a journey of rebirth, as you absorb every piece of history you have seen up to this point. The Ancestral Docks remind you of the start of your jouney with a significant historical artifact or person of interest. The labryinth invites you to reflect on who you were, who you are, and who you want to be. The intention

of this space is that it heals spiritually, and emotionally all who walk through this space. You are accompannied by the pitter patter of water, rustling of trees, pleasant scents, and the soft movement of grasses. A reflection pool in Mothers Labryinth helps the user to focus and reflect on themselves.

In this space you meditate about the journey you just had, and hopefully a better understanding of self. Where at the end there is a plaza space known as the Ancestral Walls accompanied with Relflection Ridge. WHere it serves as a space where all people unite and celebrate through performance and creativity. It is encouraged that people meet and talk about the experience they just had at this museum. More importantly it’s a place where everyone can gather and be at home.

At Mount San Antonio college, this exercise involved a dancer. Our task was to draw this woman while she was constantly moving. The idea is to speed up how fast we sketch, but also how to capture motion within the landscape.
