Get ready for an adventure! You’re the leader of this expedition.

Tour the area in your backyard or in a park near your home. Take a pencil along and observe the world around you. Find as many nature treasures as you can from the list below then add up your points!

Before you start exploring, be sure to have an adult with you. Never wander off alone.

Summer

By Saeeda Ruffin School is out and it’s time for SUMMER! YAY! Everybody loves summer, especially kids.

During the school year, most boys are already thinking about what they want to do during those hot, summer months. It’s only natural for a kid to wonder about those things!

Have you and your friends made summer plans already? Will you take turns going to summer camps or will you just hang out around the neighborhood? Whatever you decide just remember that the goal of summer is always to have incredibly fun days!

The Izzy and Liv Funologist Team (if you guessed that their whole job is to tell kids about fun activities, you are RIGHT!) have put together 4 awesome ideas that you can do to have an action packed summer:

Track Down Some “Tigers” This activity is just like an egg hunt except with this activity you use Mandarin Oranges (the “tigers”) that have tiger faces and stripes on them. One person hides a bunch of the Mandarin Oranges (or any oranges). The other kids playing this game will try to track down as many “tigers” as possible. The one who captures the most tigers wins!

Backyard Safari Trip Have you ever thought about going on a safari trip? Well, you can do that right in your own backyard! There are so many wild things to see in a backyard.

You will likely see many interesting flowers and plants, really different types of rocks and crystals, and of course, bugs and animals.

To have a backyard safari adventure trip, create a list of things that you would like to try to spot in your backyard. Then, go hunting them! Don’t forget to wear your Izzy and Liv Bucket Hat to stay cool out in the “safari”!

Become A Birdwatcher

Go Somewhere Wet!

You will need an empty toilet paper roll or paper towel roll. Poke a hole in it. Tie a long piece of ribbon or yarn through the hole so that you can hang it up. Then, cover it with Peanut Butter or Sunflower Butter, and roll it in bird seeds. Then, hang it up and watch the little birdies while they snack on some seeds! You can use Google or Siri to try to identify the birds that you see.

Now that you have those fresh Izzy and Liv swim trunks, wouldn’t it be super fun to find a place to wear them? Of course! Maybe you can go to a local pool, a pond, a lake, or even the ocean where you can get crazy wet! But, no worries if you don’t have that type of water around you. If you can’t go far from home, then, pull out the garden hose and splish splash with it. Invite your friends for a wet and wild day of watery action!

Now, that’s a winning strategy for a crazy cool summer.

Build Your Own

SUMMER ADVENTURE

o, let the adventures begin! Now is the perfect time to daydream, get out, and explore. It’s so cool doing new and exciting things. Plus, summertime usually means no school. So, what are you going to do with all of that time? It’s so much that you can do!

There are so many adventures that are waiting for you.

But, where do you start? Let us help you! Here is how you can build your own summer adventure…

Make Your Own City Adventure Using milk cartons, drink boxes, cereal boxes, and tissue boxes, you can create your very own city.

Draw on the boxes so that they look like apartment buildings and businesses. Make sure that they have windows and doors, and you can even draw people on them. Then, start your city adventure by making streets and bridges, and anything that makes it look like a city. Let your imagination run wild as you think up tons and tons of wild stories about city life. Add in some superheroes and you will have an adventure of a lifetime!

Explore The Animal Kingdom How awesome would it be to learn about weird and funny animals? It would be super fun! There are a couple of ways that you can make exploring the animal kingdom a part of your summer adventure.

You could check Youtube and Google for the names of animals that you have never seen or heard of before. Then, think about animals that you already know and find the differences between them.

Another way to have a fun animal adventure is “become an animal”. You can’t REALLY become an animal, but you can try doing animal yoga poses.

Not only are the poses interesting to do, but you might actually feel like the animal that you are imitating with the yoga pose. Just don’t go too wild while you are doing this!

Become An Escape Artist Now, before you go and do something incredibly crazy, remember to always keep safety first! Becoming an escape artist could turn out to be an amazing part of your summer adventure. All you will need is a long rope or roll of twine, and get someone to tie them to make them look like “laser beams” that you can climb through. Once they get it all set up, try to cross from one side to the other by going through the rope. Time yourself to see how fast you can do it.

This summer is going to be one of the best summers ever!

Just use your imagination and enjoy the great time that you will have.

Get ready for some major fun!

Summertime Snack

Chocolate-Covered

Strawberry Pops

It’s summertime and your tastebuds deserve a cool and awesome taste creation. Chocolate-covered popsicles are yummy and parents will love them too. Ask them to help you whip up a batch for the family to enjoy. They’re super simple and easy to make.

Here’s what you’ll need: • • • • •

2 1/2 cups fresh whole strawberries 1 tbsp sugar (optional; in case the strawberries aren’t sweet enough) 1/3 cup cold water 2 cups of Magic Shell Chocolate topping A popsicle mold

Directions: Place the strawberries, sugar, and water into a blender. Pour the mixture into a popsicle mold and place it in the freeze for at least 5 hours. Pour the magic shell into a narrow container and dip the popsicle inside. Enjoy and share!
