MARKET OVERVIEW Q1 2020 The first quarter of 2020 closed with a 30% decrease in the number of yachts sold, when compared to the same period in 2019. This is primarily driven by a particularly low month of sales in March of this year.

The lockdown in key yachting hubs on both sides of the Atlantic, travel restrictions and the general market sentiment have put several sales transactions on hold, with some buyers waiting to finalize the yacht sales process and others waiting to have a better picture of Covid-19’s impact on the yachting market.

It is worth noting that 2019 also started with a slower first quarter, with the market picking up in Q2 and Q3, which both recorded higher sales when compared to previous years. Further, 2018 was a particularly strong year as a whole for sales in the yachting industry. As the industry looks back on the past three years, we can see a market delivering steady growth.

MARKET OVERVIEW Q1 2020

During the first quarter of 2020, a total of 100 yachts above 24m were sold, 91% of which were motor yachts. Of these yachts sold, there were 79 used vessel sales, nine new build orders and six stock sales. Within these cumulative sales, 76% of yachts were in the 24-40m category, and had been listed on the market for an average of 534 days.

In Q1, a total of 219 yachts that were 24m and above were newly listed for sale, 196 of which were motor yachts and 23 sailing yachts. The vast majority of yachts (82%) were 24-40m, there were 27 vessels (14%) in the 40-60m size range, and 11 yachts (5%) in the 60m+ size category. The number of yachts listed on the market during the first quarter was 35% lower than in previous years, with 334 yachts listed in Q1 in 2019 and 324 in Q1 in 2018.

MARKET OVERVIEW Q1 2020

The number of price reductions recorded during the first quarter remains similar to those in previous years, with 382 yachts announcing price changes. The average price reduction across all size segments was €494,000. The reductions in price for 407 yachts in 2019 and 346 in 2018 was €759,000 and €851,000 respectively.

As a result of the current market conditions, we expect to see an increase in the number of price reductions in the coming months and an increase in the number of yachts listed for sale.
