From the Board

The transition from LCCMedia Foundation to The Financial Empowerment Initiative (theFei.ca) inspires us. We are con dent that we will do signicantly more in the area of nancial education this year than we have in the past.

WHO ARE WE?

LCCMedia Foundation now operates as the Financial Empowerment Initiative. We have been training Albertans, new immigrants, pensioners, and women innancial literacy since 2019.

We provide our participants access to the wealth and expertise of community partners and leaders in business, entrepreneurship, and technology so they are well-informed.

Thefei.ca is a registered not-for-pro t organization in Canada. As part of other activities in the community, we are building on the power of innovation and entrepreneurship to develop a system of instruction and training which ordinary people in all walks of life can access for their well-being.

Tax Clinic OUR FLAGSHIP PROGRAMS

The Free Tax Filing Initiative is a nancial initiative created to help low-income individuals le their taxes for free. This allows them to get access to available social services. This e ort intends to lessen the cost of tax preparation for low-income people and small businesses in particular.

The Free Tax Filing Initiative encourages nancial inclusion by lowering nancial barriers that can keep people and businesses from accurately and timely ling their taxes.

Since 2019, we have helped nearly two thousand people le their taxes.

Black Women Entrepreneurs

The goal is to give Black women the tools they need to succeed in the workforce. The goal is to support Black Canadian company owners and entrepreneurs in expanding their enterprises and nding success in the long run. Through a weekly training event dubbed Webinar Wednesdays, we do this.

We also provide nuggets to motivate and pointers to new and existing funding sources. This included access to bankers and funders interested in nancing individuals in the group.

We have covered topics such as the importance of vision and strategy, branding, thriving in the retail industry, ways to secure funding, etc.

Sustaining your not-for-profit

Training those who work in the not-for-pro t sector is what we do here. We o er a program to enable industry executives and employees to succeed and manage their not-for-pro t organizations.

Once a week, we use webinars to problem-solve with industry heavyweights. The future we see is one in which non-pro t organisations within the black community thrive in a sustainable manner.

This program is implemented in collaboration with Dexteritas, an accounting rm operating out of Calgary.
