The Ivors Academy Welcome

Welcome to The Ivors with Amazon Music, the biggest celebration of songwriting and screen composition.

Today we will present Ivor Novello Awards in 14 categories. The winners will join a roll call of the greatest songwriters and composers in history. In the 68th year of The Ivors, we will shine the brightest light possible on the art of songwriting and composition with live performances and a backstage Twitch livestream.

Alongside the new, many traditions remain including the fact that all of our awards are judged by songwriter and composer members of The Ivors Academy. This peer recognition makes The Ivors so special. We recognise what Artificial Intelligence can never replace – human ingenuity, inspiration and creativity.

And in this time of change it is important that the Academy continues to elevate the songwriter and composer voice. We are working to bring about global recognition of writers because their contribution is integral but often lacking in credit. We are pleased to see the international interest in the awards growing and extend a warm welcome to Board members from Songwriters of North America (SONA) and many writers and industry partners from the USA.

Alongside our celebration of the highest musical excellence, we also celebrate the work taking place to nurture future talent through our charitable Trust. This charity does important work providing access to education and opportunities to start and sustain a creative career.

Welcome to The Ivors 2023. We are pleased to support the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards in its 68th year and amplify the inspiring work of songwriters and composers on a global scale. This is the first year that Amazon Music has been part of The Ivors, and we are delighted to work with such an iconic organisation.

Songwriters and composers craft the music and stories that set the soundscape from which culture grows. As maestros of the art of creation, they write and re-write the rules by blending ideas and influences. Their music soundtracks our lives, lifting our spirits and showing us mysterious and beautiful new worlds, or giving us comfort when times are hard. Their lyrics resonate in deeply personal, emotive, and distinct ways, providing meaning that transcends life’s limitations.

Songwriting collaboration showcases the significance of camaraderie to a craft that has adapted to shifting times and surmounted economic challenges. We hope that all songwriting beneficiaries will adopt the same level of teamwork to advance the craft, starting with the provision of well-deserved attribution.

This year, Amazon Music will amplify and scale The Ivors and offer emerging and iconic songwriters and composers an unprecedented level of attribution and visibility globally through exclusive offerings, as well as the first-ever livestream from the event, bringing them to the forefront of culture. Beyond the awards, Amazon Music – through bespoke curation and funding – will offer the emerging Rising Stars tangible opportunities to develop and hone their craft. Our support showcases a long-term commitment to elevating all generations of music creators.
