3D Revit to 4D Synchro Pro

3D REVIT TO 4D SYNCHRO NOTE: Revit uses shared coordinates to combine models for projects. You must link the RVT files using shared coordinates in a master RVT model file. The shared coordinates must be set up in Revit FIRST. 1. Firstly, you need to download the Revit Plugin found on the Synchro web-site.

2. Download this plugin and open up Revit.

Remember: Synchro Program MUST match Synchro Plugin, as shown above.

3. Open up Revit model (once the Synchro Plugin has been installed).

4. Export model from Revit using the Synchro Plugin (found under Add-Ins in Revit).

Once this is exported, you will have a .spx file containing the 3D geometry saved. This can then be imported into an existing Synchro project or opened directly from the saved location.

5. Now open up Synchro Pro software. File> Import> Synchro Project - Select file projectname.spx. Open> Next> Import> Finish. Revit import appears in 3D window (as shown below).

6. Select an object on the model within Synchro and examine User Fields and identify what’s useable for auto-matching later. Eg. User fields such as Base Constraint, Level etc. can come in useful later within the Synchro model.

7. Save Synchro file and close.

8. Now back in Revit model, using Synchro Plugin: Add-Ins> Export Settings.

9. Synchro Export Settings dialogue box appears: Check Export Matching User Fields Only and add the following:  Level  Base Constraints

10. Close dialogue box.

11. As before export same model from Revit using the Synchro Plugin like you did earlier (but this time with the user fields added).

12. Open model in Synchro Pro. Select an element within the model and you will find User fields added to the Synchro model.

Note regarding multiple buildings: If you have a Synchro model containing multiple buildings as a single element, such as shown in the image below – you will not be able to ‘explode’ the buildings into individual blocks. This must be done in Revit. There is a work-around in Synchro, but it’s better to do this in Revit.

Alternative Export Method from Revit: You can export Revit models out as DWF/DWFx as Synchro imports both.

Remember that Revit ALWAYS exports DWF files with FEET as units (you will be requested to provide Units when you import DWF files).

But it is better to export using the Synchro Plugin method spoken about at the beginning of this Tutorial.
