BEP CLAUSES FOR BIM COORDINATION

INSERT THE FOLLOWING CLAUSES INTO THE BIM EXECUTION PLAN NOMINATED PROJECT BIM COORDINATOR They will be responsible for:       

Delivery of a federated BIM model in Navisworks 2017 nwd format.

Updating the project BIM Execution Plan through the life of the project.

Ensure all stakeholders (internal and external) work to the agreed plan.

Auditing structured design models for compliance.

Managing programs of clash detection & BIM Coordination reviews.

Assessing the design modelling capabilities of relevant suppliers / team members.

Assisting team members in delivering the project BIM modelling objectives.

DISCIPLINE BIM COORDINATOR Each party producing a structured design model must name their BIM Coordinator for the project within the BEP. This individual will be responsible for:     

The issue of their BIM model to the Common Data Environment (CDE) as required. And the downloading of other discipline models for internal coordination.

Participating in BIM model coordination meetings and reviews.

Managing version control and logging of BIM model updates and revisions.

Ensuring compliance with design coordination plan and associated level of detail matrix.

Updating model following receipt of audit feedback from the Project BIM Coordinator.

BIM COORDINATION MEETINGS – RESOLUTION OF CONFLICTS & CLASH DETECTION       

The model authoring company will retain responsibility and ownership of the models and information they produce.

Consultants retain design coordination responsibility.

All design disciplines are to carry out design coordination on their own models and design prior to issue/up load to CDE. The Project BIM Coordinator is to manage and coordinate a program of clash detection and is to maintain schedules and reports of identified clashes and actions.

The Project BIM Coordinator will import all design teams models into Autodesk Navisworks Manage 2017, to run the Clash Detection function.

This will be run following the information exchange date, and reviewed at the following Design Review Meeting / Conference Call.

A schedule of clashes and responsibilities will be distributed by the Project BIM Coordinator prior to the BIM Coordination meetings, and actions agreed.

When running the Coordination Meetings, it is very important that all disciplines are present so each clash can be viewed, discussed, and a solution can be agreed upon. There is no one discipline that has precedence over the other, which means it is a TEAM effort to work through the problems. Once all of the clashes are discussed, each discipline will then fix any problems that were addressed, and re-submit their updated models to the CDE. During the clash detection meetings, the following trades are clashed together to find any problems (example list):      

Architecture vs. HVAC Architecture vs. Plumbing Structural Steel vs. HVAC Structural Steel vs. Fire Protection Plumbing vs. HVAC Plumbing vs. Fire Protection

Lead Designer(s) are still responsible for overall design coordination, irrespective of the BIM process or digital tools used. The nominated Project BIM Coordinator shall define clash detection processes and a high level overview of best practice methodology for collaborating to coordinate BIMs has been outlined below: Each organisation will make models available to the project team via Asite CDE. The Project BIM Coordinator will access information provided by all designers and federate models into one single multidisciplinary model. The federated model is then uploaded and tagged as shared within the CDE. An issue report shall be produced by the Project BIM Coordinator and made available to all design consultants minimum three days before BIM Coordination reviews.

The issue report will be structured in line with the agreed rule sets being used to check models.

This report should also be used to form the basis of the agenda used to facilitate model coordination meetings.

During coordination meetings, the approach for dealing with model issues and responsible party for doing so must be agreed. Consultants will then update models following the meeting.

All disciplines shall update their models weekly during the construction phases to reflect the accurate as constructed/as installed condition. This shall not be left until the end of the project.

The Project BIM Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that this process is in place and for verifying compliance.

Where installation differs from the coordinated model, a log of adjusted installations will be kept detailing what the change was, the reason for the change and confirming that the BIM model has been updated accordingly. This shall be documented in the model review record.
