s Chief Executive Officer of the Trinidad & Tobago National Petroleum Marketing Company Ltd. (NP), I am both honoured and proud to address you as the new leader of such an esteemed state enterprise, which has as its legacy, the privilege of fuelling the nation for the past 40 plus years. As the leading supplier of liquid petroleum-based products that fuel the nation, NP prides itself on the quality, integrity and the safety of our products. More importantly however, as a Company we are privileged to serve the people of Trinidad and Tobago and those who visit us and for this reason, my priorities as I see them can be distilled into three major categories: Customer-Focused, Company-Driven, yet People Centered. As we seek to reach our fullest potential, NP will embark on several endeavours which will unfold as we roll out our new strategic plan. Achieving our mandate requires a single-minded focus on creating sustainable value for all our stakeholders based on performance. Operating on the principle of fostering better working relationships with our dealers, distributors and other key stakeholders we wish to re-affirm our partnerships. NP is articulating its strategy based on clear priorities, a quality product portfolio and leveraging its distinctive competencies.

Service to customers is a key part of business strategy, and this has a significant impact on overall performance because customers have become increasingly demanding. Recognising that customers choose where to take their business, as we move forward every action we take would be aimed at improving the customer experience at NP service stations and recommit to putting the necessary resources in place to accomplish this goal. The commitment and expertise of our employees are key to our advancement, so our continued investment in our employees is fundamental to us achieving our goals and objectives. In addition to our business operations, we will also continue to support and invest in our surrounding communities through youth-centric initiatives focused on Education, Culture and Sport. NP supports worthwhile endeavours that are aligned to its core business interests and recognises the importance of initiatives that promote the human connection and a sense of community - and we will seek to bring people together by giving back to Our Country and Our Community. After 40 plus years in the business, we’ve learned a lot and accomplished much we can be proud of. However, NP’s greatest achievements are still ahead of us and our continued success requires collective effort as we continue on our ambitious journey. As we look forward, we are optimistic about the challenges that lay ahead for our Company and we renew our commitment to the nation to find new ways to serve you, improve our service stations, keep up-to-date with technology and provide you with quality fuels and products.

Service Station Upgrade / Refresh Works

C

ommitted to the changing needs of its customers, NP is undertaking refresh works at various service stations to meet new trends and the growing demands of the communities in the areas. Refresh works typically include major works to the station inclusive of repaving damaged areas on the forecourt, repainting the top, underside and fascia of the canopy, the building (interior & exterior), painting manhole covers, LPG cages, pump islands and replacing the branding as needed.

All efforts to enhance the façade of the service stations by sprucing up and brightening the appearance are the first step in efforts to create a better experience at NP service stations. With 11 sites completed so far, upcoming service station upgrade/refresh works are carded to take place all over the country. Some of the stations that will also receive refresh works include NP Laventille, Mucurapo Road, Richmond Street, Tunapuna, D’Abadie, Chase Village, Penal, Fyzabad, and Vistabella among others.

What a Steel! NP Supports Culture

I

f you look out of the windows of the cafeteria at the top floor of NP House in Sea Lots you can get a perfect view of the majestic Laventille Hills, the birth place of the only instrument created in the 21st century and the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago – the steelpan. NP has a strong tradition of supporting the steel pan fraternity and proudly donated a drum making machine valued at $100,000 to Pan Trinbago back in 2013. NP’s support for unsponsored steelbands, continues with the sponsorship of t-shirts and banners, with several of these bands placing in the semifinals and finals of the National Panorama small and medium competitions each year, with 2017 being no different. Thus at NP we have always shared the Government’s vision that music can provide our children with an important outlet. The NP Music Literacy Programme, established over fifteen years ago, was created with the desire to expose young adults within our environs to the steelpan. Eventually it

evolved with the introduction of level 1 music exams, in addition to formal life skills training and has now transformed into a July/August Vacation Arts camp which is host to close to 100 young adults from Port of Spain and environs. But our involvement with the steelpan fraternity has extended even beyond these investments. As the business of pan continues to grow and develop, several unsponsored bands have found themselves struggling to find and keep a “home” from which to operate. However, from inception, Casablanca Steel Orchestra, a landmark in the Belmont community, was fortunate to enter into an arrangement with NP which allowed them to occupy the Company’s vacant premises obliquely opposite the St. Dominic’s Orphanage on Belmont Circular Road, for a minimal fee. Within recent times NP has afforded two other steel bands in the Laventille community with a similar arrangement – Highlanders and Unistars. This year, NP was a proud sponsor of the Red Cross Children’s Carnival Parade, where those representing the future of Carnival took full advantage of their opportunity to parade the streets and enjoy themselves safely on the road. We are a creative people and at NP we are proud to be a part of the future of our nation through the development of our national instrument – the steelpan.

As an unsponsored steelband, D’ Original Woodbrook Modernnaires were among those who benefited from NP’s sponsorship of t-shirts and banners.

NP Carpool Karaoke: Going Places Takes off

W

ith Soca being the music of Carnival, in support of our culture, NP’s Carpool Karaoke “Going Places” showcases engaging and educational videos for social media platforms as must-view content to encapsulate the joy of driving whilst weaving in NP’s safety messages in a fun but impactful way during the Carnival season. Hosted by popular media personality, Blaze, NP’s Carpool Karaoke - Going Places comprises four exciting episodes featuring up-and-coming local artistes,

4

giving them much needed exposure on their journey to stardom and success and will also feature seasoned artistes willing to mentor emerging artistes. The artistes include Erphaan Alves, Orlando Octave and Ultimate Rejects featuring MX Prime. The Going Places series provides high-energy, engaging entertainment, and two of the featured artistes enjoyed major success this past Carnival 2017 with Orlando Octave placing 2nd in the International Soca Monarch competition and Ultimate Rejects, featuring MX Prime, taking home the Road March title.

Two-Way Talks: Engaging our Tobago Dealers

N

P knows first-hand that innovative ideas and solutions result from exploring new avenues for growth and development, and that seeking stakeholder input on how it approaches its operations can be very successful. Therefore, in the spirit of engagement, NP has been making greater effort to engage the Tobago dealers with a view to improving communication, since long-term dialogue provides important input that informs decision-making. In December 2016, the second of such sessions was held at Rovanel’s Resort. By proactively working together with our dealers, NP is able to identify and address issues by bringing together the expertise and knowledge from key departments. These sessions have resulted in a priority listing of refresh works being developed, with the works at the Tobago Taxi Corp Service Station being completed. NP remains committed to ongoing engagement with all our dealers as a core component of our business strategy.

Portsmouth is the economic base of Dominica, being the main hub for vessels involved in the cross-border trade to the other islands. Given the Dominican Government’s plans to invest more heavily in Tourism in that part of the island, the Minister of Trade, Energy and Employment is of the viewpoint that the new service station will support the increased traffic and human activity by providing a modern and professional service to its client base, as well as strengthen the Public Private initiative of the Government. NP looks forward to further engagement on the feasibility of this important and progressive venture since a service station, if and when deployed will redound to the benefit of the people of Dominica, as well as to NP’s continued investment on the island.

Construction of PTSC’s Permanent CNG Fuelling Station on the Horizon It was back in March 2012 that a sod turning ceremony marked the future construction of a Temporary CNG Fuelling Station which was officially commissioned on April 15, 2015 to coincide with the roll out of 35 CNG Buses. This station is currently being utilised to fuel PTSC’s CNG Bus Fleet. PTSC is in the process of moving its entire fleet from the consumption of diesel to CNG which has a lot of benefits to the PTSC in terms of savings in fuel consumption and also environmental benefits as its use reduces the carbon footprint, ultimately creating a better and safer environment. Signing Ceremony: L-R: Mr. Sahid Hosein -Chairman of NP , Mr Edwin Gooding- Chairman, PTSC, Ms Dhanmattee Ramdath -Permanent Secretary MOWT, Senator the Honourable Rohan Sinanan- Minister of Works and Transport, Mr. Bernard Mitchell - Chief Executive Officer of NP, Mr Ronald Forde- General Manager, PTSC and Mr Curtis Mohammed- President NGC-CNG at the Signing Ceremony.

O

n Thursday 2nd February 2017, at the Ministry of Works and Transport’s Head Office, the Trinidad & Tobago National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (NP) and the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) signed an

agreement that would see the parties collaborate on this important initiative - the construction of a permanent Fuelling Station at PTSC’s Port of Spain compound which would facilitate PTSC’s CNG bus fleet.

NP as one of the main drivers of this process sees its role in this initiative as an important one as we collaborate in the interest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago to transition this temporary fuelling station to a permanent modern, efficient and technologically advanced station. This move offers the benefit of efficiencies as PTSC buses will no longer need to be fuelled at other remote CNG stations thus improving the time efficiency of the bus service.

CNG OPENING – Carousel & Ramco

B

oth NP & NGC CNG share a common goal, that of offering the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago the most economical and environmentally friendly way to go about their individual journeys. With a network of over 120 service stations, NP is an environmentallyconscious Marketing Company and as such we are seeking to make CNG available, to customers at our many Service Stations, with NP Carousel, San Fernando & Ramco, Trincity Service Stations being two of the most recent additions.

6

In addition to these two sites at Carousel and Ramco, NP has embarked on a drive to convert four of our existing service stations to multi-fuel stations within the coming year. NP is also on target to introduce four (4) upcoming “new to industry” sites with multi-fuel capabilities - Starlite in Diego Martin, O’Meara and Tumpuna Roads Arima, and under construction is the Munroe Road Chaguanas site. Working closely with the Tobago House of Assembly, in the near future NP will erect and operate the first ever multi fuel service station in Tobago. Located at the Cove Estate on the corner of Carnbee and

Ultra Lubricants makes its mark at the Energy Conference

M

aking its mark as a major contender in the arena of quality petroleum-based products, NP’s Ultra Lubricants was the featured brand at NP’s booth at the Annual Energy Conference and Tradeshow hosted by the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago. Held at the Hyatt Regency from January 23 – 25, 2017, the Conference is the premier Energy Conference in the Caribbean and attracts senior decision makers in the industry. As a world-class lubricant blended specifically for tropical conditions, Ultra Lubricants offer a range of internationally accredited motor oils for all classes of diesel and gasoline engines, as well as other automotive products such as Automatic Transmission Fluid and Radiator Fluid. All Ultra’s products meet the highest international ratings for their respective classes (SN for gasoline engines and CJ-4 for diesel engines) as rated by the American Petroleum Institute (API) – an independent engine oil certifying body and the sole authority of engine oil accreditation in the western hemisphere. Ultra engine oils also meet the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) GF-5 specification for European Vehicles. NP’s participation at the Energy Conference allowed the team to showcase these internationally accredited products and to highlight Ultra’s Lube ID chart which makes selecting the right oil for each make of vehicle that much easier.

Providing Consistent Training Opportunities for LPG Stakeholders

N

P continues to advocate for strict compliance with safety procedures and conducts continuous training for all internal staff and external service providers aligned to the LPG distribution process. Through these consistent training programmes, NP takes a proactive role in imparting and emphasizing the guidelines and procedures in the safe handling and storage of LPG. Since 2015, the LPG Business Unit has embarked on a continuous path of fortifying its Education Programme with respect to LPG Safety, Storage and Handling. The nature of the LPG business is dynamic and requires formal training in specific niche areas, to ensure all stakeholders (e.g. distributors, installation contractors, employees and customers) know the potential risks, hazards and legal implications, associated with their job responsibilities and work environment.

ISSUE 1 | 2017

Fourteen (14) training sessions were held over the last two years, with modules covering requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 58 Code, Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and best practices for the handling and storage of LPG. Seven (7) sessions were held for LPG Distributors, two (2) sessions for Quality Control Inspectors and five (5) for external clients (i.e. TCL Packaging Limited and National Schools Dietary Services Limited). Additionally, internal training was also conducted for NP’s LPG Plant Attendants on “LPG Characteristics and Handling Procedures” and these training programmes will continue in 2017 and beyond, to ensure that the LPG industry in Trinidad & Tobago continues to develop in accordance with international standards.

NP-sponsored player set to tackle “ADOPT-A-PLAYER” Programme

P

lacing its community at the forefront, NP’s support for the Adopt-APlayer programme has helped tremendously to propel talented yet “at risk” athletes from within the Laventille community to receive greater sport-related opportunities and in life. Started in September 2014, the programme benefits amateur footballers who currently demonstrate excellence in the sport and who have the potential to further develop their skills and competency in the game. On September 01, 2016, NP renewed a Sponsorship Agreement with Caledonia AIA with Anthony Charles being this year’s recipient. In addition to focusing on athletic development and special coaching sessions, NP’s financial support ensures that Anthony Charles will also be exposed to personal development training through sessions designed to teach leadership, life skills, interpersonal dynamics and sportsmanship.

Presentation: NP’s General Manager Corporate Services, Jessica James, presents the contract to Anthony Charles, the 2017 sponsored athlete for the Adopt-A-Player Programme.

As a sponsor of the Adopt-A-Player programme, NP is furnished with quarterly updates from Caledonia AIA on the athlete’s progress such as goals for the year; leagues and games played, including results and experience acquired, changes in ranking and athletic successes and awards or recognition. NP’s sponsored player Anthony Charles is a worthy recipient as he began playing football at the age of nine with Morvant Elements. Coming from a family of two brothers and twin sisters, Anthony was inspired by his father to play football at a tender age. As he grew, so did his love for the game and frequent matches with his team mate Abdullah Phillips gave him inspiration and the drive he needed to hone his craft. Anthony was motivated to improve his professionalism and dedication both on the field and off and when it comes to having a mentor, his favourite coach, Jabari Charles helped him acquire the focus and determination needed to pursue his dreams without ever looking back. A disciplined and humble young man, Anthony shows as much dedication and commitment to his sport, as he does to his community. His future aspiration is to win the TT Pro League title, as well as to represent the country on the Men’s Senior National Football Team. NP is proud to sponsor Anthony Charles and fully supports the work of Caledonia AIA.

Held to a Higher Standard FIRE DRILL AT PIARCO contained the situation, demonstrating that emergency-response readiness is indeed an integral part of its plans to raise the level of awareness on fire safety and security procedures at the Piarco Terminal Facility.

N

P’s HSE department successfully conducted and completed a Fire Drill on 2016 December 16, at the Piarco Terminal Facility in support of its Emergency Response Preparation and requirement for continuing certification for aviation refuelling operations at Piarco International Airport. Four (4) team members each from the HSE and Security departments participated in the drill, and successfully

8

NP constantly adheres to international standards, particularly in safety and security procedures and has never underestimated the importance of these safety and security protocols. In fact, conducting successful fire response simulations is very important for NP’s Aviation Division, to ensure the safety of our staff, clients, visitors and members of the general public as well as our facilities. During the drill NP’s team members responded quickly and efficiently, demonstrating the emergency readiness of the Aviation Department and the HSE team.
