One of the oldest medicines known to man, lemons are renowned for their powerful health benefits. For thousands of years, lemon juice has been used to cure and cleanse the body, as well as being enjoyed as a delicious ingredient in endless sweet and savoury recipes. In macrobiotic cuisine, lemon is often used as a polarising ingredient, with a little lemon zest or a splash of its juice bringing an opposing energy to the flavour of a dish, balancing it with a touch of freshness. This is especially recommended for cold soups, fish,
sauces and desserts. Lemon is also used in many homemade and alternative medicinal remedies. For the body and mind to be healthy it is necessary to have a physical and emotional balance, and the first step in achieving this is to pay attention to what we consume.
