“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him sha not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

THE EARLY YEARS Roots, Family, and Foundation

Joseph Hubert Pierce was born on March 4, 1943, in Plaquemine, Louisiana, to the late Lawrence Joseph Pierce and Willie Mae Eads Pierce. Baptized at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, his foundation of faith and family was laid in the heart of Iberville Parish. Educated in the local school system, he grew into a man of character before answering the call to serve his country in the U.S. Army.

On December 25, 1963, he married the love of his life, Anita Marie Luke Pierce, beginning a love story that would span 62 years. To this union, two daughters were born, and from them grew a legacy of three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

THE BUILDER

A Life of Skill, Service, and Steady Hands

A true master of many trades, Hubert’s hands were rarely still. Whether under the hood of a car, repairing a diesel engine, or building something from raw wood, he possessed a rare blend of skill, patience, and precision. He didn’t just x things: he restored them. His workbench was a place of solutions, and his mindset was one of a builder: if it was broken, he could mend it; if it was needed, he could create it. Colleagues respected him, friends relied on him, and family admired the quiet competence he brought to every task.

THE ROAD

Highways, Horizons, and Helping Hands

Hubert’s career behind the wheel took him down countless highways and along familiar neighborhood streets. As an over-the-road truck driver, he traversed the country, a quiet observer of America’s changing landscapes. Later, as a Pre-K bus driver, he delivered something even more precious: the laughter and safety of children. To him, driving was more than a job: it was a rhythm, a responsibility, and a form of freedom. He navigated every mile with care, whether hauling cargo or carrying our future.

THE PROVIDER Hunter, Fisherman, and Keeper of the Land

An avid outdoorsman, Joseph found peace and purpose in nature. With a bow in hand, he practiced the patient art of hunting. With a rod and reel, he enjoyed the calm of shing. These weren’t just hobbies: they were traditions of provision, patience, and respect for the earth. He shared these moments with family and friends, passing down not just skills, but stories. He was as comfortable in the stillness of the woods as he was in the warmth of his home.

THE FAMILY MAN

Chapter Five

Husband, Father, and

Heart of the Home ChapterFiveChapterFive

Above all else, Hubert cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to Anita, a loving father, a proud “Paw-Paw,” and a joyful great-grandfather. He was the life of every gathering, engaging everyone with his honesty, his earnestness, and his unforgettable laugh. He never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t yet made. He loved hard, laughed often, and lived fully. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his later years, and his love for them was boundless and true.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you. I wi come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
