Momentum Memo: August 2024

Dear Momentum Community,

We’re focusing on four major areas to continue this work:

Our dear friend Dr. Zohar Raviv (Momentum Scholar in Residence and VP of Educational Strategy for Taglit-Birthright) says…

“Establish an identity that celebrates Jewish life, rather than focuses solely on the defense of Jewish living”.

For over 15-years, Momentum’s mission is to EMPOWER women to change the world through Jewish values that transform ourselves, our families, and our communities. Through immersive experiences, Jewish wisdom and education, and tools and resources, we’re building a long-term strategic vision and plan with the goal of building pride, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.

Fostering Jewish identity and community connections have become our most powerful tools in engaging with Israel and combating Antisemitism.

Momentum is empowering Momentum mothers and fathers, alumni, partner organizations, and ambassadors with the ability to strengthen Jewish identities and lifestyles in their families, homes, and communities.

Momentum needs your support - in these next few pages, see how we’re fighting Antisemitism and more importantly, empowering Jewish mothers to lead our Jewish future.

Won’t you join us?

• The Momentum Journey of Growth, including the trip to Israel offer a deep and historic connection to Israel and opportunities to volunteer and build bridges directly with Israeli families and communities while fostering unity without uniformity for our Jewish peoplehood.

• The Momentum Fellowship is an extraordinary opportunity to cultivate communal leadership and empower Jewish women to lead our Jewish future, focusing on the most relevant and important issues facing our Jewish world and the local communities of our partner organizations.

• Momentum’s Online Learning Platforms (including the Yomm mobile app) are direct lines to Momentum education, inspiration, and connection through digital resources and webinars addressing Antisemitism online and in everyday situations.

• Momentum Mobilizes gives our global community a voice and a platform to share insights and initiatives on how to take action through the Momentum Action Network, Keep the Light Going, and a PR and social series highlighting Momentum mothers who are standing up, speaking out, and supporting their children taking a stand and addressing anti-Israel and Antisemitic backlash on school and college campuses.

The Momentum Action Network website showcases alumni and community initiatives from across the globe.

We celebrate the impact of our work by highlighting mothers, fathers, families, and partner organizations who have stood up and taken action for Israel since October 7.

To date, 600+ initiatives from 55 countries have been submitted by individuals and our partner organizations

Momentum in Israel

The MeriMAMA Project

Momentum’s MeriMAMA Project (celebrating mothers) aims to elevate and uplift our Israeli warriors on the home front after October 7.

Beginning with our missions in November of 2023, Momentum invited local Israeli mothers and wives of active and reserve duty solders to join our Momentum mothers from all around the world for inspiration, sisterhood, and support.

200+

Israeli women joined us over 5 Unity Missions for challah bakes, weeknight dinners, and motzei Shabbat celebrations.

It was fabulous to get that “hug” from women from abroad and to “hug” them back.

In December 2023, Momentum and executive bord member Racheli Chafetz hosted

500+

Israeli women with the Municipality of Jerusalem for a local “Mom’s Night Out” offering words of support, strength, and encouragement.

MeriMAMA made feel we are not alone, that we are part of something bigger.

It was a beautiful and well executed event. I had just gave birth and was very fragile and it helped me through a rough moment.

Momentum in Israel A Leadership Story

In June 2024, Momentum welcomed Adi Shachar to our staff as Israel Leadership Development Manager.

Born and raised in Israel to a multi-generational Israeli family, Adi participated in a Momentum trip in 2018 and immediately experienced the Momentum magic - that transformational spark of embracing her Jewish identity and experiencing Israel from a new viewpoint.

Adi served as a major in the IAF and had 7 members of her family who became hostages as result of the horrific events of Oct 7.

In January 2024, Adi reconnected with Momentum through the Momentum Unity Mission and alumna Mindy Berger and was invited to the US to speak with several lawmakers within the Maryland Senate and several Jewish congregations in the area.

In early 2025, Adi will lead Momentum’s first ever Fellowship Summit in Israel

In her new role, Adi will be working with Momentum, inspiring Israeli women and mothers and empowering communal leadership, teaching them to take action, and supporting them to stand up and speak out in their communities.
