Dear Partners and Supporters, Talk about 2020 hindsight. Following our 10 year anniversary, we were “sold out,” ready to welcome thousands of Jewish mothers and fathers from across the world to Israel on our Momentum Year-Long Journey. As COVID-19 spread, it was clear that although our trips to Israel would have to be put on pause, our mission was about to take an incredible leap forward. Overnight, homes were stressed on every level, and tens of thousands of families looked to us to provide wisdom, guidance, support, and inspiration when it was needed the most. Momentum immediately swung into action and pivoted with purpose to provide more support to our global community than ever before. With educational projects already in pre-production, our entire team was redeployed, ramping it up, providing highimpact online experiences to help families, partnering organizations, and communities not just to survive, but thrive. With our Momentum Living multimedia platform as a strong foundation, we quickly launched the daily live Momentum Boost series in English, Hebrew, and Spanish, inviting worldrenowned experts and educators to share wisdom, tools, techniques, and motivational messages that wove Jewish values into vital topics that were top of mind for all. During our Virtual Road Shows, Momentum Educators reunited with local Momentum sisters in cities across the world, sparking critical conversations and offering encouragement and support. Our podcasts, including Rise & Shine with Adrienne Gold Davis – an Apple top 5 Jewish podcast – provided Jewish individuals with on-the-go guidance and empowerment.

Although the pandemic forced people to separate, Momentum found ways to bring diverse populations together to take action with global and national campaigns. These included Care With a Prayer, a multilingual campaign, which inspired thousands of people around the world to pray for, and show gratitude to, healthcare professionals and first responders, as well as Spreading Love, a movement which reimagined Tisha B’Av as an opportunity to foster solidarity in Israel. Our new virtual events were off-the-charts successful. Soul Summit, themed for the High Holidays, was the culmination of our annual crowdfunding campaign, and helped us raise an unprecedented financial goal. More than 1,000 Jewish women from 22 countries attended ActionCon, Momentum’s Virtual Conference, unmasking their superpowers in order to make the world a better place.
Where we once reached 3,000 people per year with the Momentum Year-Long Journey, we now reach 3,000 people per day. And we are just getting started. In 2021, we look forward to building on our “momentum” and providing value in three hubs: Momentum Living, our multimedia platform; Momentum Journeys, our immersive in-person experiences; and Momentum Learning, our educational resources. An author, educator, and sought-after international speaker, Lori has served as Founding Director of Momentum since 2009. Hadassah named her one of the “Most Outstanding Jewish American Women of Our Time.” In 2020, Lori was selected to light the “Diaspora” torch at the national ceremony for Israel’s 72nd Independence Day.
A graduate of Harvard, University of London, and the Leo Baeck Centre for Jewish Education, Andrea served as Executive Director for the British Friends of the Hebrew University. Andrea is a certified life coach and serves on various nonprofit boards.
Cindy has served on the boards of many Jewish organizations in the Washington area, including the Washington Federation, Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Abuse, and Aleph Bet Montessori School. She is also involved in the Youth Outreach Center in Beit Shemesh Israel.

Ellen is Assistant Professor and Founder of the Georgetown University Leadership Academy and Founding Partner of Coach Approach Partners, LLC. As a professional social worker, Cheryl was The Jewish Federation Crisis Hotline coordinator for two decades. She also created a program to assist sexually abused children in the Chicagoland area. Cheryl has served as a Momentum Community and Bus Leader for eight years.
A passionate supporter of Momentum, Jewish education, and Israel, Jeff has partnered with AISH LA’s JMI division and Momentum to lead over 120 Jewish men on trips to Israel. He is a devoted advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

More than a decade ago, Momentum began with a remarkable ambition: to change the world. We knew the rich beauty of our shared Jewish heritage and the deep wisdom of Jewish values could empower and inspire women everywhere. After all, when you inspire a woman, you inspire a family. Inspire enough families, you inspire a community. Inspire enough communities, you can change the world. And so Momentum’s flagship program, the MOMentum YearLong Journey, launched in 2009. Since then, tens of thousands of women have traveled to Israel, the Jewish homeland, to explore their heritage, revitalize their souls, and strengthen their identities. In 2013, the MoMENtum Trip for Men followed, answering our community’s demand for a complementary experience that would inspire fathers to live awesome lives guided by Jewish values. With Momentum Journeys, mothers and fathers enjoy inspiring, immersive experiences during which they explore their Jewish identity – whether on trips to Israel or local retreats that foster community and connection.

Since our movement’s launch in 2009, and with a strong partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, 20,000 individuals in partnership with 250 organizations from 30 countries have experienced the Momentum Year-Long Journey. The pandemic halted our international travel and our inperson events, but it did not prevent us from sharing our mission with the world. Momentum Living, our digital content arm, became home to a growing array of on-demand videos and podcasts, engaging webinars, and thoughtful articles. Momentum Learning offers intensive educational experiences through facilitated one-on-one and small group workshops.

FEEDING BODIES AND SOULS Sharon Litwak, Los Angeles, California, USA At the beginning of the pandemic, Momentum sister Sharon Litwak turned to Momentum Boost to find her footing. When Adrienne Gold Davis asked the audience, “Who do you want to be at the end of this pandemic?” Sharon took that question to heart. Inspired to make a difference, she began reaching out to restaurants and catering companies that had lost income because of cancelled events. With the help of an army of volunteers, she coordinated more than 1,000 meal deliveries to local ER healthcare professionals.

AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE Michael Baer, Teaneck, New Jersey, USA During his Momentum Men’s Program five years ago, Michael Baer turned to Chairman of the MoMENtum Men’s Program Charlie Harary for advice on how to let go of his reservations and make the most of his experience. When the pandemic began, Michael found himself seeking out Charlie’s wisdom once again by watching his webinar series, Daily Boost. “There was so much uncertainty, and Charlie’s program literally boosted me every day and gave me an attitude of gratitude.”
Virtual Road Shows Not only did we find ways to connect across the world, but we found ways to connect locally, too. During a regular year, our Partner Organizations’ cohorts travel to Israel together for the Momentum Trip and, upon their return home, meet monthly for continued learning and growth. In 2021, together with our Partner Organizations, we began hosting Virtual Road Shows with “stops” in cities throughout the world. Local Momentum sisters and Community Leaders reunited online for enriching conversations with Momentum Educators, as well as encouragement and support.

Momentum Founding Director Lights Israel’s Diaspora Torch On Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, a national ceremony in Israel is held to honor Jewish leaders who have made a significant impact on the Jewish people and Israeli society, and each person is invited to light one of 12 torches.

#SoulResponders and Soul Summit #SoulResponders, Momentum’s annual crowdfunding event, raised more than $700K – exceeding our original goal by $200K – with contributions from more than 1,700 individuals. We sounded the call to help Momentum raise half a million dollars so we could continue to provide a lifeline for the souls of tens of thousands of Jewish families around the globe. Soul Summit, our virtual High Holiday event, was the culmination of that effort.

Momentum Journeys CREATING LASTING MOMENTS OF IMPACT In addition to the Momentum Year-Long Journey, our life-changing flagship trip to Israel, and our annual international conferences, Momentum Journeys is expanding to include local, immersive, three-day retreats. On Momentum Journeys, Jewish individuals explore their spirituality through learning, dance, and song while experiencing a sense of unity alongside others from across the globe. By removing themselves from their daily lives, individuals can connect deeply with themselves and begin a journey of growth.

tour guides, virtual events, and the Yom Ha’atzmaut annual ceremony. We are excited to resume our trips to Israel in 2021 and expect 2022 to be the biggest year yet for the MOMentum Year-Long Journey.

Creating a common Jewish future
A POWERFUL PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT Since 2014, Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs has partnered with Momentum to bring women to Israel. It is deeply invested in Momentum’s vision that women can and will positively transform the world through Jewish values.
A PROVEN SUCCESS In 2020, Rosov Consulting, an external consulting firm, conducted a qualitative study of the Momentum YearLong Journey with focus groups that included Momentum participants and Community Leaders from partners across the United States, Latin America, Europe, and the Former Soviet Union. In their research, they explored the program’s implementation, content, goals, and Year of Growth curriculum.

As an initiative whose centerpiece program is built around a short-term experience in Israel, Momentum is unusual. First, unlike almost every other provider of Israel experiences, Momentum has developed both an extensive structure and content for followup programing, designed to build on the experience in Israel. Second, our inquiry confirms that this framework is being implemented with a high degree of consistency and is richly appreciated by program participants… Both participants and community leaders are of the view that the year-long framework is not simply an obligation they must complete, it is a platform that enables the outcomes of the Israel experience to seep more deeply into the Jewish lives of participants.” -Rosov Consulting: Momentum’s Year of Programming: A Qualitative Exploration, November 2020
PLANTING SEEDS THAT CHANGE THE WORLD For Jody Berkel, the MOMentum Trip planted many seeds. “During our eight days in Israel, we learned many different Jewish ideas and it was up to us to water those seeds. I came home and chose to grow the Jewish foundations in my life,” said Jody. Over the next few years, Jody welcomed Jewish traditions into her home, enrolled her school-age son in a Jewish school, began working for a Jewish nonprofit, and she and her husband began leading Momentum Trips to Israel through NCSY. Together with her community in Toronto, Jody brings her passion for chesed and tzedaka (generosity) to Jewish individuals and beyond, showcasing that when we work together, we can do so much more. As NCSY Canada’s Jewish Family Experience Coordinator, Jody built on NCSY’s Live2Give program, and created Live2Give MOMS, a program that empowers mothers and their families to get involved in local chesed projects throughout Toronto. In 2020, volunteers wrote letters to isolated seniors and Holocaust survivors, supported their local Jewish food bank, ran a toy drive for sick children, and so much more.

What has the value of courage meant to our people – and what might it mean to each one of us? Momentum participants explore these questions, reflecting on Israel’s contributions to the Jewish people and to the world.
BEN GURION AIRPORT Learning & Growth / Limud & Hitlamdut Greeted by Israeli flags and welcome signs, Momentum participants find themselves among 200 Jewish women from all over the world. The trip begins with an introduction to Momentum and an invitation to embrace the value of learning and growth!

Human Dignity / Kavod Habriyot After spending days together in a mix of cultures and languages, the women appreciate that each person is made in God’s image, infinitely valuable and deserving of dignity. As Momentum participants physically prepare for Shabbat, they also prepare their souls through learning, singing, and connecting with those around them.

Generosity / Chesed & Tzedakah Shabbat in Jerusalem is a breath of fresh air – a time to relax, introspect, and connect with ourselves and our community. Local Jerusalem families welcome the women into their homes and lives, sharing their food, their stories, and their hearts.

Today, the group imagines the legacy they want to leave to their children and grandchildren. They consider their ancestors’ actions and realize that they are all interconnected and responsible for one another.
JERUSALEM Faithfulness & Trust / Emunah In Jerusalem, the women navigate the tragedies and subsequent rebuilding of our people. They explore the wisdom of spirituality for guidance in these matters, understanding that a relationship with God can anchor us in every aspect of our lives and drive us toward our future.

It’s our last day together, but the journey has only just begun! With their hearts full of gratitude for their many blessings, our Momentum participants are ready to channel their growth and inspiration in ways that impact themselves, their families, and their communities.
TZFAT Peace and Wholeness in the Home / Shalom Bayit Family relationships can provide a living laboratory for growth. While exploring Tzfat, Momentum participants consider how they can create stronger relationships and grow closer to their loved ones.

Momentum’s Public Council In Israel In addition to consistently advising Momentum on its strategy and programming, in 2020, our Public Council gathered twice to discuss its vision for Momentum’s continued growth in Israel. Ten members participated in Momentum’s educational programming in 2020.
Composed of Israeli women leaders from far-reaching backgrounds and sectors, the Public Council in Israel represents Israel’s rich society, transcends political and religious divisions, and promotes Momentum’s value of fostering unity without uniformity in Israeli society.

Embracing Our Russian and Spanish-Speaking Sisters
To inspire and empower community members across the world, Momentum invested heavily in its global expansion and offerings. We expanded our Spanish-speaking audience by translating our movement’s website to Spanish, hosting Spanish Virtual Road Shows, adding Spanish subtitles to many of our videos, and rolling out Spanish-language social media channels.

Following the success of our Boutique Learning Circles, we are expanding our efforts. In intimate groups, Momentum sisters will meet virtually to learn about their Jewish heritage and discuss their takeaways.
Mother to Mother is a first-of-its-kind project that invites women to connect over something that’s bigger than themselves: Jewish peoplehood. The Mother to Mother initiative aims to bring the magic of Israel trips into a virtual experience, creating a global Jewish mother network while telling the stories of Jewish mothers from around the world.

MOTHERS OF LONE SOLDIERS As soon as it is safe to embrace our loved ones again, moms of children serving in the Israel Defense Forces are invited on a revitalizing trip to Israel to embrace the land their lone soldiers now call home.
